I noticed that the link for the evo was to Autocar...

And mpw mentioned getting MINI news from Autocar so I did a quick search and found this, wish mine could get this 'little' change:

For an unchanged £2999, plus approximately £500 for fitting, BMW dealers will endow your Cooper S with a 6.6sec 0-62mph time and a top speed of 143mph. Although these are only 0.1sec and 2mph improvements, BMW claims more meaningful gains for in-gear acceleration times, thanks in part to the different ratios of the Cooper S’ new six-speed gearbox. The fourth-gear sprint between 50 and 75mph is now the work of 5.4sec – two tenths faster than before.
Link here. Could definitely use a change of the gear ratios. But why am I whining? I hardly drive at all and I really don't push my car either. What a pity, I know.

The new shape Renault Clio Sport has diffusers on the back I think..again, the one shown wasn't a production model but is likely to remain very similar.

<snip>Hmm upon second look... nah, I still don't like the way the new evo looks, still prefer the current/older body style. But hey, there are ways for people to drive fast enough in the States. Road trip to Montana? Highway 5 (really long, straight highway stretching through California)... and of course, track days.

Does Montana still have a no-limit highway like they used to? I guess I was under the impression that was not allowed anymore or something....but since I have never travelled it before, I'll take your word on it if you say so.

Track days are alright, but depending on the track you still don't get up to the speeds where you really need the stabilization that a diffuser lineup offers. I guess in CA you probably have some sweet tracks, but around me the largest is Gratton (that I know of I suppose, I am admittedly not into it based on current vehicle) and that is only a 3.7 mile course, mostly turns but no huge straights where you could pull some nice tops. I have actually done no auto racing out there, but have peddled my butt around it a few times for some time trials and other cycling events :D

Is this is the first production car (assuming the insiders were right about it being very close to the production model) that would come with built-on diffusers in the rear?? (not counting supercars because I know a few that have underbody channels and rear diffusers)

Some versions of the current incarnation of the Evolution come with diffusers, as well as cooling channels.

The Lotus Elise too, I'm pretty certain there's at least a couple of more conventional cars that have similar aero aids... but the models escape me.

*yawns* isn't there something more twisty??? :D

They now have a limit of 75mph in most places (some are lower). I don't know of there being any limits higher than that in Montana. I do know that Interstate 10 in western Arizona has a speed limit of 80mph while you're in the middle of nowhere. I-5 in California should be changed to 90mph otherwise you fall asleep.

Well those were illegal options... the more legal modes tend to be more twisty. Especially if you join some clubs/organizations such as UnlimitedLaps which my bf joined. Then you gain access (w/ a price of course) to certain tracks, they really do set it up quite well though. Very very fun, even for me and I wasn't even driving! We got to go to Thunderhill Raceway, of course there are Wednesday 'night' drag race days that anybody can pay a measly $20 (student pricing?) at Infineon Raceway. Of course there are illegal mountainous fun drives such as Highway 9 that branches into different fun places/drives-- Santa Cruz, Palo Alto, Los Gatos, and Saratoga.

I think anybody who says that about mazda is blindly biased. The new Mazdas are sweet! Their sales have exploded up here in canada with the 3 and the 6, i'm thinking the 5's gonna do very well too. I'd love to have a 3 hatchback, very attractive car, or the 6 sportback. Compare these cars to the 323, 626.... i dunno man, are you really that pissed off at ford?

I really like the looks of the car, but Ford quality is terrible, in my opinion. I had a 1995 Mustang that blew its head gaskets, _both_ of them, around 60k. Ford finally recalled it, so I did get my money back. But I've never had any good luck with Ford vehicles, and since Mazda and Ford share the parts bin, that means Mazda is out too, I'm afraid.

Along with Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Mercury and Lincon. Did I miss any?

Don't forget that Ford have also extensively dev/part shared with Volkswagon, SEAT, PSA, Iveco and are about to have a tie up with FIAT. ;)

Which is what we like... ;) going fast on motorways is mind numbing, literally.

Ever taken 84 from Woodside to the coast? I did that one time and keept up with the motocyclists. Boy was that fun. Also Page Mill Road to Alpine to Pescadero to the ocean. Did that once and my passenger was sick afterwards  so that's not for the queasy. I've never been on 9 though. Looks fun. Too bad I don't live up there anymore.

I like the new Evo X design, agressive, slim, sexy, and you won't find a whole lot of 2 liter production engines (turbo or non turbo) that can produce 300 horsepower and yet be gas efficient (of course if you hit the magic 4000rpm mark when the turbo kicks in no one cares about gas milage but the thrill of ride).

It has that shark front which is a Mitsu trademark. Plus not a whole lot of companies can show off as many rally trophies as Mitsu can, most car manufacturers build cars that look good but they lack the spirit, Mitsu is one of few companies that builds cars first and foremost for drivers...

Basically the new Evo X seems to be everything what a WRC car is supposed to be, unlike the new Subaru Impreza STI which looks like a blend of few cars put all into one...

Think you have them all. I never did like the Lincoln/Mercury styling, and can't afford the others, so I didn't include them.
