Really? Obama was the only one out of his entire team (meaning his top advisors) that said go. Everyone else just wanted to not do it.
He had been leading and directing this operation for a full 9 months, how the hell can you say he didn't do anything?
Lets remember that Bush admitted to the press mere months after 9/11 that he's "not that interested in that guy (Bin Laden)", he was more determined to get us into Iraq for nothing.
Amen, brother, amen. It's amazing the amount of people seem to rewrite history in order to twist facts to their advantage.
However, I will state that I truly believe we have all been lead down a path in which the two party system has created a "Divide and Conquer" socio-political atmosphere in this nation. Instead of working TOGETHER, we are busy fighting each other over corporate news sponsored rhetoric while backroom deals are being made. Couple this with being handed the worst economy since the great depression and a Republican congress whose house majority leader publicly stated they will filibuster ANYTHING the POTUS sends they do not agree with and they have done just so. Poor attempts in making the POTUS appear inadequate only hurts US, the American people, the VOTERS, just so one party can save face. Everyone, on both sides, are acting like children.
Read John Dean's "Broken Government". An ex Nixon legal aide who wrote an amazing piece about how far the U.S. has fallen from grace. In the mid-20th century congressmen would stay in D.C., and they would work TOGETHER, regardless of their party line. There are many instances in which Republican's would assist new Democrats (and vice versa) in writing bills, even is they strongly disagreed with them. They didn't run back to their home states, they didn't play for the camera's and spread rhetoric such as universal healthcare is "socialism" (note: it's a socialized DEMOCRACY, I grew up in the U.K., it works, however, those other first world nations that are fairing FAR better than us in healthcare and education aren't spending 50%+ of their federal budget on their military, another topic that needs addressing, our piss poor foreign policy that revolves around countries fighting for control over oil), and they didn't push aside bills or filibuster just to play to their own "team".
Now that the Robert's Supreme Court passed a ruling recognizing corporations as "persons", you can kiss campaign reform goodbye as corporations have a golden ticket to give as much financial funding to any political group/figure they wish, thereby placing their divested [corporate] interests further into our government. Of course the newly appointed conservative Justices pushed this agenda, while moderate Justice Ginsburg was devastated. If Romney wins, there are two Justices up for retirement meaning two life term Justices will need to be elected. As this would give Republicans full control off all the houses, we would be screwed. I'm a moderate and I would feel the same if a Democrat controlled congress was in control with a Democrat POTUS. We need more checks and balances!
As for the economy, I'm ashamed we are trailing in environmental policy. We could easily develop a new green economy based on renewable, sustainable energy. A friend moved to Israel for a job in marketing for a company producing green tech. I had no idea that Israel is the leading nation in green energy, with Spain trailing behind. There is so much we could do; the job creation alone would be enough for climate change naysayers to think twice. Not getting into specifics regarding hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (which our Army has been using for many years now in NYS, as well as Toyota, Honda, FORD having vehicles in California, Florida and Texas, with hydrogen extraction being done in solar paneled stations that do not tax traditional fossil fuel burning sources as electric cars do, and with a simple byproduct of water vapor or clean water after the chemical propulsion - I could go on), there is so much out there we aren't tapping into as we're stuck slurping down oil from Exxon/Mobil, BP, etc. like it's going out of style while they make record profits. There is no reason we can't be working towards a better system, for the economy and the planet.
The fact is, we need to stop fighting each other, start thinking for ourselves, learn to listen to each other, not get so heated, and work WITH each other. I know we all want the same things, I know this, we're just too caught up in the emotion and fear mongering rhetoric that we are blinded to it.
