I don’t feel bad for that guy. He has like 8 different channels ranging from car reviews to phone reviews, somehow misleads people into subscribing so he has millions on each channel, and absolutely delivers nothing of value in his videos. Might hurt some feelings, but it’s the truth.

Ain't that the truth. I unsubscribed years ago when it hit me that this guy doesn't have anything of value to say, much less an opinion on anything.

Grammatically correct phrasing, yes, but that kind of positioning doesn’t give me an image of a good working relationship. It’s not that it can’t exist, but I much prefer the kind of expression you hear from what I perceive as truly supportive family-esque teams, like “the team here at <some_group_name>”. Instead, the separation of “I” sounds a bit ego-driven, stiff, overly formal.

That’s funny, but I think he was just FACE to bring popularity to this app and he didn’t have any control on the development in general. He wasn’t product owner in general.

Let’s me reminds you those YouTube slaves like Linus and MKBHd doesn’t have technical background and they do not investigate properly products which they’re introducing in an ads or personal way .

I do feel bad for YouTubers in general. Everytime I see posts on X by a YouTuber like MKBHD saying "I have a lot of thoughts, video tomorrow", they're in the state of attempting to monetize everything that they can because that's the only thing they can monetize in their career. So now comes the wallpaper app after people kept asking him "hey where did you get that wallpaper?" and MKBHD couldn't resist monetizing that too.

Sad mindset.

it's so tempting to think - and I've fallen for this too many times to count - that a critic who points out all the faults of others would be great at building things, but turns out those are completely different skill sets and criticizing is a lot easier than it is to build something

MKBHD's stay in the arena lasted all of 15 months before he was like "nah, this is too hard, time to go back to being a critic"

Hopefully he learned a little about how difficult it is to actually create something

It's easy to criticize others' apps, but to make your own, not so easy is it? Especially coming up with a useful one. Certainly not as easy as doing 90 mph in a school zone...
 
lets be totally fair here...MOST WALLPAPER APPS CHARGE A FEE OF SOME SORT...be it a one time fee (less likely nowadays) or a weekly/monthly fee. Not all of them are worth it, most arent. So was marcus doing anything that wasnt done before? No.

He was trying to make a few extra bucks, and people jumped on his back for it. Ok. heres the funny thing. You can bark all you want about the unfair price he was charging for a wallpaper app subscription, BUT at the end of the day you dont have to pay for it.

Heres a prime example. I love my Apple Watch Ultra 2. Paid 400 dollars or so for it with a trade in from the first one. I doubt ill trade in this one for the 3rd gen as i dont see the upgrades as useful to me. Ok, but i love the watch and all its functionality.

They do sell far more expensive watches that do far less then the apple watch. Your not likely answering phone calls and texts on your average low end rolex are you? Unlikley. Yet they charge WAY MORE those watches then you would pay for a full retail priced Apple Watch Ultra.

Now one could argue the quality of the material, etc...but at the end of the day, you still get to chose between a more functional if not less fashionable apple watch ultra (or lower end model) or pay way more for just the look, material, brand name and social status of a Rolex.

That choice is yours and yours alone to make. Same thing with the wallpaper app. You can chose not to buy it, and apparently enough people chose that and now its getting shut down.

Wow, way too many sour grapes on here who are obviously just super jelly of a guy who's been able to monetize his views on tech - while you all just sit here barking at each other over Apple rumors. Sad. Anyway, MKBHD is great, and he makes great content, which is why it's no surprise his brand (and team) took off very easily. And as he said, this wasn't 'just an app to download wallpapers' ... it was meant to create an aggregate community of artists who could actively engage and create with the paying consumers of said art. It didn't work - but sometimes things just don't. It reminds a lot like Apple's Ping - where the idea was to better connect musicians with fans. That idea didn't work either, BTW, and that was launched by one of the largest brands - with the largest marketing budgets - in the world....
