Testing obviously started in 2003, else how would there be a list of people who tested positive in 2003?
That test wasn't meant to count for anything. Just to see if they needed to do more testing. The Mitchell Report didn't have any real effect either.

Penalties for testing positive for steroids started in 2005.

Edit:

In 2004: Each player is tested once a year in season. A first positive test results in treatment, followed by a 15-day suspension for a second positive and up to a year suspension for a fifth positive.

It was a weak test. It didn't really get teeth till years later.

I love the Johnson deal for the Marlins. Im going to wait to see what happens with the next big set against the Phils, but I do think they have a shot at the wild card, and this move certainly helps both races.

On the 30th anniversary of Thurman Munson's death, Melky Cabrera hit for the cycle. The first time it has happened for the Yankees since 1995.

Giants take 3 of 4 from the Phils over the weekend. Zito pitched great yesterday, and timely hitting from new acquisition Freddy Sanchez, who I think will hit a ton of doubles at spacious ATT Park.

It's going to be a tough wildcard race with the Rockies, but I'm cautiously optimistic that the Giants' vastly superior pitching will carry them through - their bats just have to scrape together enough runs. Freddy Sanchez and Ryan Garko are incremental improvements to the lineup; hopefully they're good enough...

Wow, could it be more lenient? In a sport with a 160ish game season, these suspensions are barely a slap on the wrist.

Testing positive for performance enhancing drugs should be an automatic yearlong ban, with a lifetime ban being possible for a repeat offender.

Unless the punishment amounts to the ruin of a career the drug use will continue.

I wish Zito would do that consistently. I also wished it had made sense to dump him for Halladay(sp?) before the deadline...

Good moves on the other two though... ;)

Hey, I like your taste in baseball teams.

Now, let's work on your preferences for EPL sides. :D

We're all Wednesday aren't we?

Lost to Houston and Mike Hampton last night. I've always rated him and wanted the Giants to pick him up. I have no idea how he does against the rest of the league but I believe he 15-1 versus us... :(

Yes, he could be 78 years old and his arm could be hanging from his shoulder by a few ligaments, and some team that absolutely had to beat the Giants would sign him up and he would do it!

Though the way Cain was pitching, the Giants should have had enough to beat Hampton that time. However, he gave up two home runs and that was enough run support for Hampton...

And the two latest editions didn't get us our runs? feh. We need a real power hitting 1B.

Yankees and Red Sox tied again... I have a feeling this year yankees are gonna take it... I mean, Red Sox had the lead for more games, but Yankees have winning streaks that always bring them up...

I am interested to see whether Smoltz/Dick-K have any significant impact as the 2nd half comes to a close

Suck on that Mets. That'll teach you not to hit one of our players with a pitch with the bases loaded and Pujols on deck.

Neither the Sox or Rays want to win this game.

The Rays did... Evan Longoria finished it off on the 13th inning and us yankee fans thank him for that!

Yankees also had a fantastic game... back to back HRs, Melkys defence, A-Rods double play... and of course Pettitte pitched pretty damn good so GO YANKEES! 2 victories ahead (1 game ahead)

It's sucks that the offense always seem to suck lately when Pettitte is on the mound. Tonight was his first win since July 1. It's not that he has been pitching poorly, but the offense is just snoozing. So far he has pitched pretty well this year.

Yup, Andy has pitched very well since having back to back bad outings. Not a bad #4 pitcher at all and would have been the league's best #5 if Wang hadn't been injured.

All I can say is bishes better win today!!!
