2 games up!

Come on, Halladay. Christmas in July!!!

Prospects?! We don't need stinkin' prospects!

All we need is a championship in October.

:D
If the Red Sox make a push for Halladay the Yankees will double the offer. Otherwise I see them staying out of it.

it was a great game, unless you're pulling for the rays, the hitters were popping out everywhere, and alot of ground outs. great game by burehle, and it was just under two hours. yeah, i calmed down a bit since the game ended, i was so mad when burrel got robbed of a hit with foul balls and got the ball caught to third. at that point i knew it was all over. and i thought kapler got a homer but wise robbed the home run.

funny thing is that the rays broadcasters were talking about no hitters since the 4th inning, with the trivia question and trying to jinx the nono. nice job by mr. burhle.

That centerfield catch going over the wall in the 9th was absolutely ridiculous!

Having watched Halladay pitch his whole career, whoever lands him will be getting the complete package- a consummate professional, a class act, and a solid team player.

Stupid Riccardi- he really f'ed the Blue Jays.

It's not a bad move. He's gonna be a free agent after next year, and then he's gonna sign somewhere else for big money. Toronto probably can't afford to pay him what some other teams might offer, and even if they do, he might want to go to a bigger market. You might as well trade him now while his value is really high, because you're going to get a lot of great prospects back.

A couple weeks ago a report on ESPN said one GM said "give them a list of our minor league teams and let them pick any five", so basically they'd be willing to give up their top five prospects to the Blue Jays to get Halladay. Combine that with the young talent that the Blue Jays already have, and you got a powerhouse to compete in the AL East in 3 years.

No, I understand all of that. I agree- there's no point in keeping him now. Trade him while we can get something. But it wasn't supposed to get to this point.

My problem with Riccardi was that when the ownership opened their wallets for the past 3-4 years, he totally blew it with idiotic signings. He's made bad trades. The Jays have been rebuilding forever now. The team was supposed to be a contender by now according to his plans.

The only smart thing he has done was that he brought Cito Gaston back to manage the team. Why that guy hasn't been managing a major league team since he managed the Jays in the 90's (and won back-to-back World Series) is beyond me.

You mean Vernon Wells hasn't panned out?

With teams like the Yankees and Red Sox in the division it takes a lot of rebuilding to compete. Even then you probably won't be able to keep up.

I think the Expos have a better shot of doing anything than Toronto anytime soon unfortunately. :p

Heh......

Tell that to Tampa Bay, who were in the WS last season.

It's just been so bad for so long. Every season Ricarrdi has an excuse. He just hasn't been able to make the right deals, and when he's made deals, they've just been bad. Until recently, he's had the cash to spend, but he didn't spend it well. Now Rogers (the owners) is reducing the budget- if the Jays would have been successful, I doubt they would be doing that.

Really? Have you seen where the Nationals are sitting in the standings? What a mess they are......

Surely is more of a hockey guy, gotta cut him some slack.

Alright, what's the chances of the Los Mess even sniffing the playoffs?

I got a big fat 0 (Zero) on that.

same. they stink. and they have another loser, jeff francoeur we had to dump who is afraid of balls now. the mets are simply a second rate failure franchise that does not spend well, with a cover as a big market team.

Two,slim and none..They could have a seven game lead with just over two weeks to go in the season and still not make the playoffs..oh wait

hahahahahahaha!!!!! seeing that the mets are losers always makes me happy.

Will have to agree with others. Ain't happening this decade.

Dodgers are getting their backside handed to them by the Marlins right now.

And the Cardinals handed them their ass on a silver platter the past 2 nights too :D Keep it up and there will be a September battle with the Cubs for the title of team that chokes the most.

And I have to add, St. Louis fans aren't known for booing, but we sure have been giving Manny Roidmirez the reception he deserves ;)

Reports are coming out that Cliff Lee to the Phillies is almost a done deal:

Foxsports:
The Phillies have reached agreement with the Indians on a trade that would bring them left-hander Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to major-league sources.

Also, Seattle and Pittsburgh have made a trade:

Done deal pending physicals.

Good trade for Pittsburgh. Clement is gonna be a solid player.

As good as Doc is, Cliff isn't a slouch and it cost the Phillies much less.

If Joba keeps his post-All Star break performance, Yankees won't need Doc. Maybe just a inning eater 5th starter.

3 1/2.

Joba is on a pitch count and will only make 6 or 7 more starts.

PS Bruney sucks.
