Is it me or is this just a Wanks and Red Sux thread? Seems like discussions about other teams is limited :p

Not our fault the fans of the other teams are silent in this thread. Besides, the AL East is where it is at. The NL sucks big time.

we Red Sox and Yankee fans are just more passionate then other team's fans apparently.:p altho where are the Cubs and Cardinal fans. i mean Cubs fans drove that poor guy out of their city cause he f'd up their chances of getting to the world series. something Red Sox and Yankee fans cant say haha.

Cardinals fan right here ;)

It was fun watching the Pirates blow their lead in the 8th

Ortiz still didn't say what he used. He said he "didn't know what it was" I don't buy that. You always know what you are putting in your body. I don't think he used steroids but his story also doesn't really wash either. He knew what he was taking.

Not everyone always knows. But since every player knows he's being tested, there's no excuse for not knowing. In that situation, I say give the player the same penalty, just for being stupid.

Dodgers @ Giants, starting tonight! Big series in the NL West. I'll be there, albeit way in the upper deck behind home plate. Nice views of the bay, at least.

^Huge series. I've always wanted to catch that series (when both teams are good of course :p)

AT&T Park is absolutely beautiful. Caught a game out there in '07 against the Rockies... right before they went on the greatest tear of all time.

Don't get me started about Colorado these days.
I love AT&T park ... one of my favs.

They're beating up your Cubbies. I'd love to see the Cubs win a title.

I'll be going to my first game at Citi Field this weekend. Still gotta hit up New Yankee Stadium sometime.

I still gotta get to Wrigley, Fenway and Dodger Stadium

i've been to att park during a giants-dodgers game, it's amazing. i think it's the best rivalry in baseball, it's not the one sided one the red sox-yankees seems to be (to me, the rivalry is about 80% boston based and has a bit of media manufactured feel to it now). they hate each other, and it's the players, the fans, it's amazing. and the park is amazing as well, you can see all the way to oakland down the third base upper deck.

btw, rays pitching is horrible, gave up lots of runs early, lost again, 8-7 to the angels, with vlad hitting his 400th hr. two of the rays starters are useless and are major league screwups half the time (kazmir and price), and the other three are mediocre, plus the pen is average. if they don't fix their pitching soon, it's going to be curtains on their playoff chances.

- I'd say that the Giants - Dodgers rivalry is the best in the NL but far less intense than the Yankees - Red Sox. I caught a Giants - Dodgers game a few years back when I came back home during break back when Bonds was still playing and while they chanted "Beat LA" a few times, it was rather quiet. When I caught the same two teams in LA (visiting a friend who happened to be a Dodger fan), it was much louder and felt more like a rivalry. In SF, it was more like "wow this is such a nice stadium with such nice views and amenities and oh hey... a game too!".

But the Yankees - Red Sox rivalry is tops. Old Yankee Stadium used to literally SHAKE during the games and the fans would get on each other. Even walking around the city, it was everywhere. Here in the Bay Area, I don't know if its because half the population is for the A's and half are for the Giants or what but it just doesn't seem as intense.

- I'll agree with Kazmir because he can be frustratingly inconsistent but he does have the talent. Price, I think you just need to give him time. He had such high expectations coming into this season. I do hope you guys deal Crawford because he would be AWESOME in pinstripes. ;)

^I noticed that about the Giants fans too. They really don't seem to care about the game. They were very quiet during the game.

Sox/Yanks is amazing. The Old Stadium did shake, it was pure intensity.

It pains me slightly to say it, but it's a lovely park and I really enjoyed going there. It was the one and only time I ever went to a game by boat. Sure beat trying to get out of the Dodger Stadium parking lot! Among "foreign" ballparks, it's topped only by PNC Park in Pittsburgh. (Seriously. I strongly recommend seeing a game there.) Like most stadiums and arenas these days, I think it suffers from corporatization of the ticket holders. Companies and rich people can afford most of the tickets, so the die-hards who live and die with every pitch get priced out. Hardly any teams have a strong home-field advantage anymore.

Dodgers win the first one, 4-2. Kuroda pitched well and Sanchez really only had the one bad inning, with Kemp's bases-loaded double being the killer. A nice change from Sunday's game, which I attended. We pretty much sucked at both pitching and hitting in that game, except for Manny, who had half the team's hits.

Yup. The Giants fans were very subdued, a lot of blackberry usage, not a lot of baseball talk among the fans. From what I hear from my friends, 49er football fans are similar.

Around the Bay Area, I've learned that a lot of people wear Giants hats but don't really follow the team, at least among younger people. I've made small talk like "Wow, Lincecum was a beast last night" and gotten a blank look or something similar on more than a few occasions.

A's fans are a little more into the game and more active. When I've gone to Oakland to watch the Yankees with fellow Yankees fans, we've actually gotten into it with A's fans (friendly stuff, of course). Then again, it was almost 50/50 Yankee fans to A's fans.

PNC looks absolutely breathtaking. It's a shame that the owners don't care about the team at all. I still gotta hit up a game there. I still love Camden Yards, fantastic park.

Where'd you sit? I was out in the left field bleachers. The stadium has great views all around IMHO.

It's such a shame. They Giants are impressive this year, I certainly didn't see them competing for the division or wild card.

Agreed. The Bay Area is awesome though. Plenty of great things to do and see.

I've met a few A's fans at the Old Stadium, great fans and they know their stuff.

I agree. I think the big problem with San Francisco is, since the Dot Com boom, the population has been a very transient one. Not a lot of people who live here grew up here supporting the Giants.

At the game last night, I was appalled that almost half the seats were filled with people wearing blue! The bleachers and arcade areas were the only black and orange sanctuaries, and it takes a brave Dodger fan to sit in those areas (I did notice several fights breaking out -- just like the old days at the 'Stick).

Even though I was disappointed by the ratio of fans in the seats, I did feel like the Giants fans there actually were louder and more demonstrative than they have been in the recent past. I think fewer people are going to ATT park for the novelty now, since the park is almost ten years old and the economy is in the toilet. That, and the team is not clearly good enough to attract the front-runner crowd.

The LA/SF rivalry is still kind of one-sided, though. SF holds a bitter hatred of LA, LA generally doesn't care quite as much.

Oakland used to be a pretty good place to see a game, back in the early 80s. The abomination in center field and the current skinflint ownership group have really killed the atmosphere over there. It's nice to take in a cheap game and easily get good seats, but too often the Coliseum feels like the Mausoleum. That, and there's now a bitter rivalry between Giants and A's fans that simple didn't exist 20-odd years ago.

They know a winner when they see one! At some point doesn't a young California baseball fan stop and think "Shouldn't I root for a team that's won a World Series since my dad was born?" :p

To the extent that that's true, I think it mirrors the Nocal/Socal* rivalry in general. Nocals have turned hating Socal into a lifestyle, whereas Socal really doesn't have any beef with Nocal. In fact, we enjoy visiting. (A Nocal friend of mine once joked that on vacation, his dad would order the kids to shut their eyes when they passed the Grapevine.) No such dislike of Nocal exists down here. When they aren't contenders, quite a few Giants fans seem to care more about seeing the Dodgers lose than seeing the Giants win.

On the other hand, knowing that they hate us so much means a special pleasure comes from doing it. Even though I don't care much about the Angels, seeing them beat the Giants in the '02 Series was very satisfying. Knowing that they've waited so long, that Mays and McCovey never won one in SF (and really only came close once, in '62), that the rivalry goes back for years before they came west, all of that comes into play.

*By Nocal I really mean the San Francisco bay area and by Socal I really mean the Los Angeles area. People living in rural areas in both ends of the state could really do without both metro areas.

It's been a joy watching all the pink hats jump off the Sox bandwagon this week. These are the ones that jumped on the morning after the Sox won in 04, weren't even alive when Dent's HR sailed over the green monster and believe that Buckner lost the 86 WS,lol..Listening to them on sports talk radio has been great entertainment.
It's going to be a fun final several weeks of the regular season coming up. We'll see if there's a surprise team that gets hot at the right time and rides it to the post season..
