I thought Dodgers Giants was the west coast equivalent.

There's no Babe Ruth component with many, many decades of being cursed, or not quite making it. Also, the Giants and Dodgers have often had their peaks at different times. Sure, there's a rivalry, but it's not the internationally known one of Red Sox v. Yankees. I don't think there can ever be a baseball rivalry quite like those two AL East titans. We like to think at times it's great and for us here, it's as big as it gets, since I don't see the same animosity of A's against the Giants, or Padres against either LA team, or norcal teams against socal teams.

I don't know if Giants and Dodgers games make news on the east coast. But over here, the whole Boston v. NY thing is still big news, especially after 2004.

The big sports rivalry on the west coast is definitely college related more than anything else, not a professional sports rivalry. That would be any UCLA team against any USC team, and up north mostly Stanford football vs. Cal football. The sports pages in California get more mileage from these non professional rivalries. But I did wish there was some professional sports rivalry of the same magnitude every year outside of the sometimes close race in the NL west. If ever there is a year when the NL west leader spot is between LA and SF and both teams have a good chance of going to the WS, year after year, then I can see some news happening outside of the area of a true rivalry worth mentioning to the rest of the country. Whenever I hear of a Red Sox team and Yankees team making the postseason, it's also not unrealistic to think one of those teams will eventually walk off with a WS ring.

my statements are based on hard facts. u nerds dont know anything about baseball, and the things u say prove it.

I guess Cleveland needs a hockey team then eh?

Anything would help!

Celtics win!
The Lakers need a new announcer at the Staples Center, he announced Magic like he was some space-filling bench warmer. Your team is getting championship rings, and this guy is a living legend, show some damn excitement!

Actually he always sounds like that. I prefer it to the crazy screamers or that clown in Detroit.

Dodgers-Giants definitely has a Socal vs. Nocal component to it, and it mirrors the geographical rivalry in one specific way: it's often one-sided. The people of, say, San Francisco openly despise Los Angeles and will only ever be happy if it disappears from the earth. The people of Los Angeles enjoy visiting San Francisco. There's no hatred. They don't raise their children to hate Nocal. The baseball rivalry is somewhat similar in that it seems like Giants fans often care more about seeing the Dodgers lose than seeing their own team win.

I guess when you've never won a World Series in your current city, you grasp at whatever you can.

Very true.

We came close, and if not that, we at least got there. But a "San Francisco" Giants ring would be fabulous. Yes, the Dodgers have rings, both in New York and in California. The Giants do have their rings, quite a few of them, but that was way back in the Willie Mays era of the Giants when we won our last one. Willie who? Yes, it was that many years ago and Ike was President.

Sometimes I feel like I won't be alive when the San Francisco Giants finally win one, but that's the way things felt with the San Francisco 49ers getting a ring the first time. It just never seemed plausible, and then from 1981-1994 they pick up five out of five visits. The hapless Niners went from having a washed out OJ to being the team that's famous for the "Catch" and the "Catch II". In the "Catch", SF began their famous rivalry with Dallas. Brett Favre remembers the "Catch II" and in his long career, he sees it as the most memorable play he's ever seen in football. Go figure.

In baseball, the Giants need to have some famous play, or series of plays in the World Series to finally stop the curse they seem to have.

Fairly recently in baseball history, the Angels got the monkey off their back of having gone 42 seasons from inception to their first ring. All the jokes about them being a AAA team, or a team for washed up players who were once good are now in the past. While the Angels were eliminated this year, nobody will call them a AAA team again thanks to their lone WS ring.

And in hockey, the real "dog" that needs a bone are the Sharks. Please help!

Mariners fan here, so the ALCS was truly a lesser of two evils scenario...either way, I'm left rooting for the Phillies!

The Yankees are sucking so far. They seem to be very impatient and not making Lee work where the Phils are making CC work. Their impatience in their past two postseasons has cost them. Lee is pitching very well, but it seems like the Yanks are swinging at pitches they normally would not swing at.

^CC has calmed down big time since the homer.

It's a great game so far. That Utley HR being the only blemish.

Cliff Lee is just being filthy like he's been all postseason.

He has, but the Phils are just making him work.

Frankly, I never like reversing a call when it effects a baserunner. Matsui reacted to the first call. So that is why he did not go back to the bag. At least they got it right for once......

^True.

I'm glad they took the time to get the call right. The are probably under the gun in this series. I don't think the MLB wants an issue with umpiring this series. Can't say I blame them.

I like they got it right for once, but I do not like how they penalize the base runners for reacting to the initial call...... In that situation either A) let the wrong call go B) Give the right call, but allow the base runner to go back to the original bag.

And damn it CC!

Something may happen late in the game. CC didn't pitch bad overall, it's just that the Phillies made two hits that count big.

OMG Fox is in love with Lee tonight its making me sick please Fox Sports needs to just die

Lee is a ass.

Fox is loving him because he is simply dominating tonight (so far at least). It would be hard for any Yankee fan to deny that fact.

He is making them swing at bad pitches, and the Yankee pitchers haven't done so hot at all (CC did have a few decent innings).

Hickman

Doesn't mean he has to be an ass about it.:p

Just wait, Yankees score 5 runs with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th.

oooooooh 24 mmmmm

Yes but when CC pitched Game 1 of the alcs. all Faux talked about was all the bad calls or baserunning moves etc it was something that the angels did my problem is that how Fox mainly joe and tim are so anti yankees its annoying.
