Bitter?

Pujols has passed all PED tests so far. If he fails a test a year from now, that means he just started taking them and it had no affect on his past World Series performances. But this shows that Braun was taking PEDs during his MVP run. It's quite possible he would not have been nearly as valuable of a player if he wasn't taking PEDs.

okayyyyyy :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

And no player has successfully appealed a drug test result. Don't get your hopes up.

we'll see...

So what happens with the MVP award? Will they give it to whoever came in second. It's not fair to give it to Braun if he was cheating.

The writer's association hands out the MVP award - not MLB - so it would be at their discretion.

innocent until proven guilty. Braun is disputing the results through arbitration. When Pujols is eventually outed for steroids will the cards have to give back the world series rings?

I'm not saying he's 100% guilty--but come on...they all dispute the results. I'm a Yankees fan - so, honestly I don't care either way - but as yg17 says the next to win an appeal will be the first.

And I wonder what effect this will have on the Brewers and free agency? Does this make them rethink bringing Prince back?

the whole thing just stinks of false positive to me. He immediately requested a second test which came up negative. Have you read the story? Something's not right.

This would destroy the franchise for a while. Braun is signed on as the face of the franchise and Prince is as good as gone.

Source: Braun will be vindicated

I just talked to someone familiar with Ryan Braun's positive drug test and he insisted that the Brewers' star left fielder will be cleared on the appeal process and that this information never should have come out.

The ESPN report said Braun tested positive for an abnormally high level of testosterone in his system. No player ever has had a positive drug test overturned in appeal.

If Braun’s suspension is upheld, it would start at the beginning of the 2012 regular season. Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes said the club had not been informed by the commissioner’s office that Braun tested positive for a banned substance and faced a suspension.

Creative Artists Agency, which represents Braun did release a statement indicating the positive test is being vehemently disputed:

“There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate that there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident that he will ultimately be exonerated.”

A CAA spokesman said that neither Braun nor his agent, Nez Balelo, would have a comment during the appeal process.

But a source familiar with the situation told the Journal Sentinel that a second test requested by Braun was negative and was being used in the appeal process to overturn the first results. That source also indicated the banned substance was not a performance-enhancing drug.

“The truth will prevail; I really feel good about that,” said the source. “It just stinks that this got out before the appeal process is finished. Initial positive tests have been overturned before, proving the player is innocent, and nobody ever knows.”

Obviously, this person was on Braun's side of the story but he was vehement that he knew enough details to support his comments.

Former NBA star Reggie Miller, not an analyst for TNT, lives next to Braun in Malibu, Calif., and posted this tweet after the report surfaced: “Just spoke with my neighbor, Ryan Braun. He says test is bogus, can only believe a man for his word. Truth will always come out.”

And, I'm not sure how USA Today's Bob Nightengale got hold of Braun, but he quoted him as saying "It's B.S.", referring to the ESPN report that he tested positive for a PED and faces a 50-game suspension.

The source said Braun was tested in early October, at the start of the postseason, and was apprised of the positive result a couple of weeks later. Braun immediately requested a second test, which came back normal. Whether the lag time between the first and second test compromises Braun's appeal, I couldn't tell you.

A first positive test results in a 50-game suspension, followed by a 100-game suspension for a second and a lifetime ban for a third. A player is not paid his salary during such suspensions.

As I said - I have no dog in this race. So we'll see what happens.

Unfortunately for him, with all of the crap we've heard from these guilty guys in the past - Palmeiro, A-Rod, Manny, Clemens, Pettite - he's probably not going to get the benefit of the doubt from people that aren't Brewers fans.

Edit:
And you're starting to sound emotional. Dare we say your feminine side is showing?

How so?

MLB implemented the drug testing policy in spring of 2006. It can be presumed that starting in 2006, Albert Pujols, along with every other player, was tested for PEDs. Pujols has passed every test so far, so we know that as of 2006, he wasn't using PEDs. The Cardinals won a World Series with Pujols in 2006 and 2011. Seasons in which that, according to drug testing, neither Pujols or any other Cardinals player were taking PEDs.

If in the future, Pujols tests positive for PEDs, it would mean he had started taking them after the Cardinals won the World Series, and they had no affect on his performance in the 2011 post season (which, save for the 3 home run game in Texas, was fairly lackluster).

As you can tell from my previous posts, I think Pujols is a greedy pig and not about to come to his defense, but I fail to see how Pujols eventually failing a piss test would have anything to do with his performance as a Cardinal. It would be a problem for the Angels to deal with - just like how they'll eventually have to deal with paying an aging 40 year old who can't hit a ball out of the infield 25 million a year.

And as a Cardinals fan, I'm looking forward to a Fielder-less Milwaukee without Braun for 50 games :D

Baseball was rocked Saturday by an ESPN report that reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

A source close to Braun, however, said Sunday that although the player tested positive for a prohibited substance, that substance was not a performance-enhancing drug.

The source described the test result as highly unusual, “never seen in the history of (baseball’s) drug-prevention program.”

“When it happened,” the source said, “everyone was just scratching their head.”

Another source, however, said the substance in question triggered a violation of baseball’s steroid-testing policy, even if it is not technically listed as a PED.

ESPN quoted sources who said Braun's positive result was triggered by elevated levels of testosterone in his system. The testosterone was synthetic, not produced by Braun's body, according to a later test. If a player exceeds a certain testosterone ratio during testing, he is deemed to have tested positive.

The penalty for such a violation would be a 50-game suspension to begin the 2012 season. Braun is appealing the ruling.

A spokesperson for Braun released a statement later Saturday, saying: "There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate that there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident that he will ultimately be exonerated."

The revelation of Braun's positive test is the most damaging drug news in baseball since Manny Ramirez's first suspension in 2009. It comes at a time when the game had been enjoying a run of positive press after a classic postseason and the continuation of labor peace through the signing of a new collective bargaining agreement.

Quite honestly I really don't care anymore until that 3rd ban. Baseball gives you 2 chances so if you're gonna risk it, you get what's coming to you. When you risk a lifetime ban is when I lose respect for you. So many of the guys we've grown up watching have done something to cheat the system. It's not a complete shock anymore. I was shocked Braun's name has come up but after all the names that have come up it's not bothering me. I do hope he is cleared, but if not, he gets the punishment he knows is out there.

I'm starting to think this is what happened:

Braun had high testosterone level which triggered the MLB to conduct further testing. Further testing showed it was due to a synthetic substance, but that substance is not on the PED list.

Hip Hip Jorge.:(
It looks like Yankees fans won’t have to worry about seeing Jorge Posasda in a different uniform this season. WFAN’s Sweeny Murti reports that Jorge will announce his retirement within the next two weeks. We’ll surely have a riveting tribute to Jorge once he does make the announcement. For now we can reminisce about our favorite Jorge memories — I’m sure his double off Pedro Martinez ranks highest for many. We can also get a head start on making arguments for his Hall of Fame candidacy. Remember, he still has the highest WAR of any catcher since 2000.

Not sure if I like the deal or not considering there was a lot of star pitchers becoming free agents next year( Cain, Hamels, etc) to give up Montero and Noesi for a potential Joba repeat.....

Also, we got some crowding in our rotation now. CC, Pineda, Kuroda, Sucknett, Nova, Garcia, and Hughes. Either there is something in the works to trade Sucknett to replace Montero, or our bullpen is going to be pretty full as well.

There are whispers that Hughes is on the block if they can get a decent bat in return...problem with Burnett - who the hell is going to take him without the Yankees paying 97% of his salary. They're stuck with him.

Who are we going to get in return for Hughes after this season( and the second half of 2010)? I don't see Hughes going anywhere unless we see the 2009-first half of 2010 version of Hughes at the trade deadline in July. But, then again would we want to trade Hughes if he returns to form and is dominant?

Maybe it isn't too late to get Posada to come back for one more season as platoon DH. ;) :p

I wish Prince would just sign already, he reportedly met with the rangers today but if the sign Darvish the only team I see him signing with is the nationals.

He might be better off signing a year extension and trying the market again next year.

Jorge Posada officially retired from baseball today. :(

My favorite memory...

And, in an attempt to upstage Posada, it appears Prince Fielder may have finally found a home.

Nothing has been confirmed, but "sources" are reporting that the Detroit Tigers agree with 3-time All-Star 1B Prince Fielder on 9-year, $214 million deal.

We'll see how this plays out.

Few Yankees players I respected more, and he was one of the ones I dreaded seeing come up in a clutch situation against us. Great player, fantastic career.

And here's a salute from our former captain:

Via the Yankees, here's a comment from Jason Varitek:

"After hundreds of head-to-head games during the regular season and the postseason, I can't say I respect and admire anyone at our position more than I do Jorge. The hard work and preparation he put into catching is a huge reason he has five championships on his resume. He is a true grinder."

Touching words from Varitek. Both guys were warriors who took more pride in their accomplishments behind the plate than in the batters box. And I imagine that when Varitek hangs them up, we're going to hear a lot of the same about him. Hopefully, he'll have the opportunity to retire as a Red Sox.
