Completely agree.La Russa is an ass. As for the swing, to me he is paid to hit home runs. There are no mercy rules in MLB. This isn't little league. Now if you want to talk to a player, do it in private not to the media.
For the most part, I agree. But when a coach gives a sign, you have to respect it. Now obviously the outcome was good so he shouldn’t have gone overboard with his reaction like he did, but I can understand him being frustrated at a player completely ignoring a sign. Some big stories so far in the MLB season. Where do y'all come down on the Tony La Russa/Yermin Mercedes swinging on a 3-0 pitch debate?
wow, baseball here?
Go Rays!
but not to Montréal!
I'm sure this is how Brooklyn felt when the Giants left.I'd love to see baseball return to Montréal. The Expos were a wonderful franchise.
As a longtime Giants fan, I have to feel the irony of the Tampa Bay team threatening to move. The Giants themselves were 95% sold to an ownership group with the intention of moving them to Tampa in 1992. The end of that year was quite a whirlwind of emotions, from resignation that our team was leaving, to MLB stepping in and vetoing the move, to a new, SF-based ownership group being quickly cobbled together, to the new ownership's blockbuster and unexpected signing of Barry Bonds. I hope Rays fans can also have a happy ending in all of this.
Since you are talking theoretical it could be 1. With the 2017 rule allowing intentional walks being done by a signal from the manager (intentional walk rules) you could intentionally walk each player and then pick them off first base. Rinse/Repeat by both sides. Then the first batter in the bottom of the ninth hits homer on first pitch.Random thoughts:
Someone had a "factoid" in the questions that pop up after a search about the fewest number of pitches possible in a complete game. This is entirely theoretical, not at all probable. The answer is 9, yes, nine!
Here's the (incomplete) explanation (my summary):
1st pitch: triple
before the next pitch, runner attempts to steal home
2nd batter interferes with the catcher: 1st out
1st batter/runner is declared out also
That's where it stopped, and I couldn't click on anything to show me the rest. I figure that the only way to get the third out without a pitch being thrown is if the 4th batter (or later) then comes up to bat out of order. He's out. Edit: Not true. Correct batter can enter the game and inherit the count. So, I’m not sure how a third out would be called.
So many questions. Why didn’t he step on first? Why was he approaching Baez so slowly during the rundown? Why wasn’t the second baseman covering first? Why can’t anyone on the Pirates make a decent throw?Wild play of the century (or of all time):

Báez, Contreras combine for insane baserunning | 05/27/2021
Javier Báez gets into a pickle between home and first, allowing Willson Contreras to come home and steal a run for the Cubswww.mlb.com
Tim Kirchen said it was the worst play he has ever seen, at any level of baseball. Steve Levy said someone should should be fired.
Craig (Pitt 1B) is really the only player who didn't attempt to make the play he needed to make. The slow jog chasing Baez back to home is the incomprehensible part. Having not taken the easy way (stepping on the bag) he should have made the tag as quickly as possible.
The second most incomprehensible part was Contreras running toward home as the catcher stood over the plate, and Craig was advancing towards home with the ball. It only worked out well for the Cubs because Craig had a major brain freeze.
...why wasn't the second baseman yelling at his teammate, "Step on the bag!"? Why wasn't the catcher yelling at his teammate to "Just tag him!"? Plus, I think the Pirates' dugout is on the third base side (at home) but still close enough for someone to be heard on the field. So many questions. Why didn’t he step on first? Why was he approaching Baez so slowly during the rundown? Why wasn’t the second baseman covering first? Why can’t anyone on the Pirates make a decent throw?
by the way Baez giving the safe call at home plate before running back first was hilarious 😂
I'm sure this is how Brooklyn felt when the Giants left.
Ya, my bad. The Dodgers wanted the Giants to move with them. The Giants didn't play in Brooklyn, sooooo...
Still, it must have been a gut punch for a city to lose *two* teams in the same year, even if the remaining team was in the middle of a prolonged dynasty.
Only 10 on the IL? Let me know when they get to 17. Yes, SEVENTEEN Mets were on the IL at one point (16 still there) and they're STILL in first place in the division and the only team over .500 in the division was was projected to be the most contested. They have four outfielders on the 40-man, two were with the team or in the minors with the team on opening day, and one of them is really a first baseman more than an outfielder! What's worse - the Mets are using their $10 million/year catcher at 1B instead and he'd never played 1B professionally until a week ago!The walking-wounded Cubs
WOW! The Cubs have several players who can play 2 or more positions. Bryant has played all three outfield positions plus 1st and his “normal” 3rd base. Ross has moved guys around a lot, as other teams have had to do as well. It can make things interesting.SEVENTEEN Mets were on the IL at one point (16 still there) and they're STILL in first place in the division and ... are using their $10 million/year catcher at 1B instead and he'd never played 1B professionally until a week ago!
It sure did, though McCann played a decent 1B. Thankfully we get Alonso back today, in addition to Pillar (dude's an ANIMAL, took 94 to the nose 2 weeks ago and is coming back to the field) and Lugo...It can make things interesting.
It used to be a treat for fans....I just don't understand why some people here are so gung ho about doubleheaders...
All I ever expect/ask for is .500 ...I'm expecting the Giants to be average this year, but I hope Posey is back.
Giants have the best record in baseball, and the next two teams play in the same division. Based on how things are going, I think the 2 wild cards are coming out of the west this year, which makes playing that wild card game kind of not fair. All I ever expect/ask for is .500 ...
Loving it so far.
mmm...I'm sure this is how Brooklyn felt when the Giants left.
