Soto is 23. Judge is 30. A lot more mileage left in the tank, and less wear and tear for similar money.

Anyone watch the All-Star game? Never been into that kind of thing.

If you looked at everything that way, you'd never have a player in the roster over 25. Judge is going to hit 60 this year and he has several good years lefrt.

No. they wouldn't pay Judge, but they will pay Soto? That will go over well in the clubroom. And Soto is too expensive to rent for a year.
There's talk of a 15-year contract for Soto, which is crazy. Even my Cardinals are considering paying him big money, which is very unlike them.

This won't be good for the Yankees.

I have played in a game where the pitcher broke his arm throwing a pitch. Will never forget the sound. :(

Flashbacks of Dave Dravecky in 1989, two games after he made an inspiration comeback from cancer treatment.

The All-Star Game is a showcase for pitchers. The elite arms from each league are always going to dominate the hitters, who are elite if they can get a hit 1/3 of the time. Against those arms, it’s less than 1/4 of the time.

True. But that's just the honeypot. It all about the guaranteed money. My Bills gave Vonn Miller a 6 year contract, but I doubt he will play that long at a high level. But the guranteed money brought him here. In baseball, all contracts in the Bigs are guaranteed, so its about the total value, not how long it is.

Plus, each starter only has to go an inning. No holding back.

True. They're talking in the $450 million range. Big money in those TV contracts to be able to pay that kind of salary, I guess.

Nobody said anything about building a roster with only players under 25. Unless you're the skinflint Oakland A's, barely care, and act mainly as a de facto farm club for the other teams.

But when the question is whether to invest hundreds of millions on a long-term contract for a single player, age is not a minor factor.

And given that the original question was whether the Yankees would pursue Soto if they can't work out a deal with Judge, there are precious few others who fit the bill. They can afford to, and would be stupid not to.

Where everything went right for the Giants in 2021, everything is going the exact opposite way in 2022. Many would call it regression to the mean, but I don't think they're this bad of a team if everyone is healthy and at least playing to expectations.

Another group of aging players will come off the books this winter, time to ring the changes in the major league roster.
