Actually, Boston's at level 4 compared to other World Series Championship cities. Maybe you'll understand it when you play in your 11th Series. Enjoy your self inflated opinion though. Just hope it's not another 86 years before that happens. ;)

That has nothing to do with anything I've said. Don't take it personally pal- we all love our teams. It's just fact.

No need to be patronizing,guy..I was referring to the fan base as well as the media. Both of which have nothing to do with number of Wolrd Series won. Actually, the media scrutiny and fan attention was WORSE when we weren't winning or in the playoffs. When the Sox don't make the playoffs,it's even worse...But you wouldn't understand that since you have eleven World Series victories

A friggin men guy. That's what being a sports fan is all about. Nothing wrong with being passionate about your team...
Sorry to burst all you guys bubbles but my Yankees do have 26 rings.:)

They do.And that's how it is.When the Yanks came in to Fenway in August and beat our a** and swept us to end our season,I tipped my hat to them.I don't let yahooism/fan boy talk alter my perception of reality.Being a Sox fan (as well as a baseball fan) and as much as I HATE the Yankees, I can acknowledge good baseball..And we shoulda never let Damon go. With the money we pissed away on Clement,Seanez,Foulke,Tavarez et al,I woulda much rather put that toward Johnny...

Yankees and Red Sox fans hate each other but there is a mutual respect.

I think the media is worse in New York, the standard to win is so high that even the best players can't make it here. We just chased away Randy Johnson.

This is something to be proud of? I'm not sure the "standard to win" is higher with the Yankees than anywhere else, but the chunks of money Steinbrenner can throw at players is not matched by any other team. How that gets translated into a "higher standard" is beyond me. Personally, I don't think Cubs fans, Cards fans, Giants fans, Dodger fans, etc. are any less crazy for their teams than fans of the Yanks. Heck, if you are fan of a team that hasn't won a Series your entire life you have to be a little crazy (Cubs, Indians, Giants ... in order of fanaticism.)

On a different topic, Sweeney has made a statement that says Bonds did not name him as the source of amphetamines.
"Basically it's something that never happened," he said. "My name somehow got linked to it and it wasn't through Barry. I don't blame Barry for this and I don't know where it came from."
I don't know if I believe it given the fact Bonds has not denied it, but I add it to the "stew" for any who wish to follow this melodrama.

Nor did Bonds ever acknowledge that he "knowingly" took steroids..OK,sure Barry,lol.. A trainer,or teammate, comes to you with a needle or a pill. They want to either
a. Inject you with a needle
b. Have you swallow a pill..
You did one or both of those WITHOUT asking/knowing what it was you were taking, lol???This guy goes beyond obnoxious..

I think Randy Johnson's problems more stem from the climate and the fact that he's just getting older and more broken down. He might spring back this year and have a better season in the arizona weather which would prove the climate fact but not the breaking down fact. Then again he might just continue to slide down.

I don't think a person like randy johnson is that influenced by the media ... I think he works to his own drummer. Some players I can see being hurt by the pressure, but others seem to strive. I mean its not just money that attracts all these athletes to the city, they want to be famous, they want to be a national icon.

I'd also say its a lot easier to be a fan of a team thats consistently good. I've watched the cubbies for practically my whole life, and some years its hard to turn on the game. You keep doing it because you love the team but watching a last place group of guys with a coach that you wanted to hang ... well thats not the best scenario. At the same time the fans that stay loyal are just as passionate or even more passionate because its not as easy. You just hang in there hoping that your team makes enough moves to really turn around the club.

I think Randy Johsnon's body sent him out of NY and nothing else.If he was producing,he'd still be there. Can't believe AZ gave him that kind of money..

Has Bonds even signed a deal yet with the Giants, last I heard they were fighting over how many people Bonds gets to have with him.

You may want to check that. They agreed to terms, but he hasn't actually signed yet.

Correct.

"And Barry Bonds, the target of a wide-ranging government investigation, Selig's scorn and national contempt, still is negotiating the perks in his contract with the San Francisco Giants even after testing positive for amphetamines last season, according to the New York Daily News."

I don't see why they have to give him any perks, its simple no other team wants you, either take our deal or leave it.

Actually what's obnoxious is scapegoating one player for the actions of hundreds, who all were aided and abetted by owners and management who knowingly benefited from steroid abuse. That's obnoxious. I'll leave your assumptions that you know what happened with Bonds stand as the guesses they are.

With Barry's contract, it is still unsigned and the sticking point seems to be around pay if Barry is indicted. Sabean's latest comment on the progress of negotiations is the following:
"I don't have a date in mind because I know (Bonds) is in shape," Sabean said. "It's quite common this stuff goes into spring training. I think we're fast coming to a point where this thing will get resolved."

No,I wasn't in the locker room with Barry  But I also know that guys in their middle to late thirties don't get that big, that vascular or that fast naturally. Nor do they have veins popping out of the center of their forehead where there are no veins or a neck the size of a tree trunk with bulging eyes. Amazing how these guys have all "returned" to a more normal size. Not to mention the fact that most bear the most tell tale sign of prior steroid use. Getting injured often and easily.. Same goes for Sosa,Palmiero,McGuire and even Nomar (who's long been suspected here in Boston to have been on the juice). At least Giambi had the balls to admit it. Nothing will ever change as long as there is a commissioner with an ownership stake in a team (Yeah, on paper it says Selig's daughter and son in law are owners..RIGHT).

Well there is this:
Bud Selig has talked about stepping down and retiring as baseball's commissioner in 2009, when his contract expires. If he does decide to walk away from the job, who might replace him?
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove06/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2735979

Talking about it and doing it are two different things.MLB needs a commissioner with some backbone and balls to stand up the players union. As well as having a commissioner that has no involvement whatsoever with any team..

That is the strongest union in the whole country, not that easy to say no to them.

True. But Selig is nothing more than a pawn/tool of the union. They literally have him by the short hairs.I think anybody would be an improvement over him. I think he's done absolutely nothing to help the integrity of the game.Like I said.If Bonds breaks that record, you wanna a guy sweat??

I'd expect better numbers from RJ this year -- going to the NL should be worth a point off his ERA (if his career stats have anything to say about it). I'd also expect more Ks (or at last K/9).

Arizona is an interesting team this year -- Webb, RJ and Doug Davis make a good first three, and they've got good youngish arms (and Livan Hernandezes oldish arm) behind them. If they can get any production out of a young offense (is Connor Jackson really any good? How 'bout Stephen Drew?), they'll push SF and LA.

Trouble is, fotografica, steroids do none of these things. Intense, regular work outs with heavy weights give people the characteristics you describe, but that can be done with or without steroid use and at any age. Steroids makes it much easier, but the use of the drug accomplishes none of what you say it does - by itself. In fact, more pitchers - skinny guys - have tested positive than muscle-bound home run hitters. Why? Steroids help you heal faster than normal. With a pitcher this gets you back on the mound quicker than normal. With a weightlifter this allows you to lift again the next day. Problem with this discussion is that people just repeat the latest drivel to come out of the mouths of the "sports personalities" that pass themselves off as sports reporters regardless of whether it has any basis in reality.

The long and short of it is that you may well be right in your assumption that Bonds took the steroids that have been alleged he took, but proof of that fact can't be had by causal observation of a person's body size or growth in body size. That's is why they have the testing regimen agreed on in the CBA.

Still, even if you are right about Bonds, you haven't dealt with the point I raised about him being made a scapegoat for steroid abuse. Over 100 players tested positive when they knew the test were coming. How is it that Bonds is the only one who is now playing who gets this kind of reaction? Because you don't like him? I can name numerous players who have been linked to steroids by rumor, but is, say Roger Clemens, under the same kind of press scrutiny or scorn? I don't think so. Time to re-evaluate what you think you know.
