I don't want to jailbreak or void my warranty at all, if I did this would that be considering jail breaking or anything like that? sorry for the n00b question but I'm not familiar with any of that stuff.

If anything, before you take it to apple restore it. They wont know.

Oh ok...missed it.

You do indeed have 4.0 and have the little camera! Thats awsome. I had to go though a lot to get mine to work lol.

What i said to the ATT rep is that i was sick of getting links because it got on my nerves! I told them to disable that link feature at all cost. Even if that meant that i wouldnt have any notification of an MMS. She then sent me a test MMS of the ATT globe. I put my phone on vibrate so she couldnt hear that a text came in and she said, "did you receive my MMS". I then said No even though i did. And then hung up.

Try that and let me know what happens

That is really, really smart.

uh i dont get the part i bolded

So now that people are posting instructions on how to get it working by using a carrier file that AT&T did not officially release then I guess it is not really out yet?

He tricked her into thinking he wanted the links to go to MMS (View my message) off, and she sent him a test MMS message and it worked, but he told her it didn't so she wouldnt change anything else.

When you did this did you have a custom ipcc file installed and the camera icon showing up in the messages thing? Or was your iphone normal and did not have it. Im wondering if i should keep my ipcc (5.0) installed or restore and do this.

no, but if your asking that question then your better off not messing around with terminal and stuff. Not because your incompetent or couldn't do it, I'm just saying you'd probably spend a lot of time on it and end up frustrated, or possibly screw up something on your computer or phone....VS just waiting a few weeks for the official release of MMS for iphone on ATT.

Yup. I said to her, i know i wont get MMS until late sumer, but i do not want a link either. So can you take that link option off and when MMS is available to me then i will get them. But until then, this link thing has to go.

And as I understood, now normal MMS works for you correct? Also, like I asked above, did you have a custom ipcc file (5.0) or did you just have a normal file and no camera icon in the messages? I just want to know whether I should keep this custom file installed, or restore and then do it.

No

I first did the tethering thing where you go to that website on your phone and download it from your phone. I then got the ipcc file (5.0) and put it in my phone. Then i called ATT. The 611 people will not help you because they are mainly billing. Tell them to take you to Tech Support.

Just out of curiosity, will there just be a carrier update over iTunes for the official* release? And will it literally be as simple as just installing that? (meaning will we have to call, and config, etc.)

Thanks.

I can say that I am seeing something similar to what the OP is saying. I'm in GA, on an iPhone 3GS, and when I received it Friday, the toggle in "Messages" was not there at all to enable/disable MMS. Now, after I saw the OP's original post, I checked again, and it's there! I set MMS to "ON", and the camera icon now appears in the SMS application. I tried sending a test pic to myself, but it does time out and give the red !. And I've done nothing to the phone nor downloaded any carrier files. It actually hasn't been connected to any computer since being activated Friday morning. So, it looks like AT&T CAN enable this from their end of things.

in atlanta and nothing for me

Yup, just connect to itunes and get the update. It will be like getting the 3.0 but 1000X faster.

I just restarted my phone and it doesn't seem to be working... I'm in the Philadelphia area.

Okay Da Great one does this sound like what I should do?

1. Restore the iPhone to restart all settings.
2. Download the file from benmhelp site for tethering.
3. Install the 5.0 carrier file and DO NOT change any settings in data network. Or do I change the settings as well?
4. Call AT&T and ask for them to take the linking off.

Is this correct??

I do not have the camera icon in my messaging window and I do not have the setting to enable MMS in my messaging settings. How are you guys getting it?

You have to fill in all of the blanks in cellular data network like this once you put the ipcc 5.0 in your phone.
