It probably would have been up hours ago if their servers weren't inundated every time they flipped the switch.

Well, unless they are hosting the site in Steve's garage then they should have load balancing and enough bandwidth for a few hardcore nerds checking their email.

And if that is the case, then maybe we should get Arn to Apple headquarters to show them how to set up a webpage.

steve ballmer is hidden behind the apple server cabinets flipping the switch every time they get it up and running. rather than innovating, he's resorted to sabatoge. :p

If it's not ready for the load, it's not ready for production.

During the brief period I was in I tried changing http to https and ended up getting an akamai certificate (which naturally mismatched the domain), so it's probably hosted on akamai like just about everything else from Apple. Load is almost certainly not the problem.

Hah, Steve's probably wasted right now - all of the techies are struggling to get things going, and drunk Steve keeps walking in and trying to give keynotes using various xserves as prototype iphones.

At least, I think that would be acceptable.

MobileMe would work great...

...if there weren't any users.

YAY! APPLE!

GOod job. Yay.

Haha....with steve imitating modem noises into a phone to try to get a stable connection.....PSHHTHTTT BING BONG PSHTTTTT

This is actually getting quite aggravating; I've been having trouble with sending mail through Mail with my .Mac account, and I can't get in through MobileMe either. So I'm pretty much screwed on that side. Luckily I have a utility gmail account I can try out for a while. C'mon :apple:, get your act together!

I just set up two, one with my initials, one with my first name.

Received "Sign Up Complete" page.

Received email confirmation for both.

However, can't log in.

Anyone experience this? Or do most of you have converted/flipped .mac accounts?

yeah i got it too. but i got mail at email and me mail as well. so i hope it passes. :|

Either that or his office walls are covered in blood right now.

HAHA ohhhh you made my night.

MobileMe isn't up. That's fine.

But .Mac has now been down for a day. That's a big problem. By now they should have rolled back so we could still at least use .Mac. There's no reason .Mac couldn't be up while they're fixing MobileMe.

I have to think there is. Aren't they migrating certain services, like iDisks and the like? Certainly that takes some cooperation between .mac and the other (I hate that me.com name!).

Either way, me.com (barf) is going down like a $5 hooker. They need to get that puppy stable.

If it can't handle the viewers, then why would they put it up in the 1st place?

Actually, my theory is that they're throwing it open and shutting it down on purpose -- they probably found some kinks in their framework which is best tested for and fixed by using real-time traffic to pummel the bugs into the open.

They're probably fixing a bug, throwing the switch, gathering log and error data, then shutting down to analyze.
