That's my guess too, but some people said their mail was working, so who knows.

I wonder if the problem is with the implementing the push service. What else could they have such a hard time with, and mail, etc has been working for the most part for everyone else all day not using the web UI. I don't even know, I'm just thinking out loud now. I'll stop.

Look at rim and their push services. They go down all the time and cut people off from all email for hours or days.

Engadget and Gizmodo have reported Mobile Me push email to be working.

Where did you download the system pref? I also had logged out of imac and now can't log in.

Dang.

To make the MobileMe update available to me i had to first manually king on a sync and then i got a message appear on the screen prompting me to download the update. Now that the service is down i don't think that would work for users who have not yet updated.

Who knows?

Ok, I get that Mobile Me is broken, but what could have possibly happened that would require an extra 24+ hours to fix it?

Whos knows? I was able to login about...45 minutes ago.. and almost everything looked really smooth, but I noticed none of my ".mac" homepages worked, and the "share your idisk" thing was not working either. So, as a guess, I would suppose it might be iDisk. There is probably an awful lot of data to move around (but it probably depends on how they are doing it).

Remember, ".mac" started as iTools, and that was 8 years ago. This is probably a pretty good shift in the foundation for them.

But really, who knows? From what I saw, it looked really sweet and I'm sure I will enjoy using it in a few days once they catch up with crossing all the "t"s and dotting all the "i"s.

Push email has been working REALLY well for me all day via my updated iPhone. Incoming on Mail has been fine, but outgoing stalled for about 10 hrs on all messages. Updates are slow, no push on the Macbook AND, I made the mistake of logging out of .Mac in system preferences. I can't log back in now, even though my password is correct, and my other machines are still in successfully. Huh?

I think it's the weather - what else. When they were using .mac, it was based on a server on land. Now, they're using the cloud and they're having hurricane speed winds which they cannot control. When you start dealing with clouds, you never know what's going to happen.

LOL LOL LOL LOL!

No it's not the hurricane speed winds which they cannot control. It is all that smoke from the wild fires in California and MobileMe data that is floating up into the air gets disorientated and lost and can't find where it is going to. That's all. :D

Just to shine a light on the matter of "hurricane speed winds" is called the jet stream(s) - they are fast flowing, relatively narrow air currents found at the tropopause, the transition between the troposphere (where temperature decreases with height) and the stratosphere (where temperature increases with height),[1] and are located at 10-15 kilometers above the surface of the Earth. They form near boundaries of adjacent air masses with significant differences in temperature, such as the polar region and the warmer air to the south.[2] The path of the jet typically has a meandering shape, and these meanders known as Rossby waves. Rossby waves propagate westward with respect to the flow in which they are embedded, which translates to a slower eastward migration across the globe than smaller scale short wave troughs. The major jet streams are westerly winds (flowing west to east) in the Northern Hemisphere.
During the summer, low-level easterly jets can form in tropical regions. A southerly low level jet in the Great Plains of North America helps fuel overnight thunderstorm activity, normally in the form of mesoscale convective systems. A similar northerly low-level jet can form across Australia, instigated by cut-off lows which develop across southwest portions of the country.
Meteorologists use the location of the jet stream as an aid in weather forecasting. The main commercial use of the jet stream is during airline travel, as flight time can be dramatically affected by either flying with or against the stream.

Wow - thanks professor - been through hurrincanes in the gulf since 1990 (worst were Andrew, Katrina & Rita) - but I didn't know all of that.
