guys, the service is down from 6pm to 12. It's not gonna pop up in 5 minutes. Knowing the .Mac team it won't even be ready in 6 hours...

Looks like the maintenance window has been delayed:

MobileMe Launch
7/9/2008, 8pm-2am PT

As part of the MobileMe launch, www.mac.com will be taken offline at 8pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th.

Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch.

MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.

they changed the message. They don't plan on updating anything till 8:00p PT-2:00a PT

EDIT: just a bit too late :(

Well... right out of the gate, Apple has started with a problem. The original 6pm maintenance has been moved to 8pm. Interesting.

I wouldn't say there are having problems. Just because they change the time by a couple hours only means one thing: we have two more hours of access to our .mac account

This is not necessarily an indication of a problem. They give a 6pm PT deadline, and move it back two hours right before it occurs. This allows anyone doing last min stuff with their .mac account extra time. People always do stuff at the last minute, this little delay saves Apple from a headache.

Wait for it...wait for it...:D

Almost there... just a few more seconds... (A New Hope, anyone?)

Anyway, do we have to do anything in our mail app for the @me.com switch? I'd assume we just change the login and server info to have me.com info, right?

no, you need not do anything; expect MobileMe installer in Software Update very very soon; iLife apps are to be updated separately.

Updated Timeframe

Looks like Apple has revised the timeframe because .mac is still up and the message in there now says the following:

Maybe they realized that 6pm was dinner time so they pushed the start time out so they could order pizza

anyone who thinks MobileMe will be up right after 8 rolls around... you've got to be kidding.

there's a reason that it's a SIX HOUR WINDOW OF MAINTENANCE.

Did someone say they expected it to be up immediately?

Well if you look back at the previous posts, a lot of peoples reactions indicate that they were waiting for 6pm so they could see the new MobileMe... when in fact .mac will go down (at 8pm now) and it could be several hours before some accounts come back online, some may need to wait all the way until 2am

Eh... my take on it is that everyone is just excited about the change and the future of push delivery outside of Exchange.

Having .Mac go down (permanently) is an event in itself, as I see it. I had no expectations that MobileMe would be running before I had to go to bed, though. I'll cross that bridge tomorrow after work, but I feel like it will be a milestone to see .Mac gone, that's all.

i think people just want to see that .mac is down, so it means that mobileme is actually coming tonight sometime
