Anyone able to Upgrade / Convert your Individual dot Mac account to an Activated MM Family Pack.

MM will not let me, either the functionality is whacked or just not there yet, or it wants a Credit Card, uh, I just purchased an Activation, I am not paying again, with a credit card.

I'm also trying to do this ... was informed by an online support representative that the upgrade button has been "removed by our engineers" and it will return shortly.... that was yesterday morning :/

It should be in the Account Info section of the MobileMe site... underneath the upgrade bit... the Upgrade button is what you need, and it's missing in action ;)

It's not "push" if you have to initiate the sync. Bad show, Apple. Bad show.

Before MobileMe, how did you folks sync .Mac, whether it was 10 seconds or 10 hours after you updated something?

You pushed the Sync button.

Ok, so now MobileMe does it for you in most situations. Is it so hard to keep doing it like before for the few situations it still (as yet) not do so?

Exactly. Go here (Apple.com) and see where it in no way says "instantaneously" in reference to Mac - .Me syncs.

From Apple's website : http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/

"Push email. Push contacts. Push calendar.
MobileMe stores all your email, contacts, and calendars in the cloud and pushes them down to your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC. When you make a change on one device, the cloud updates the others. Push happens automatically, instantly, and continuously. You don’t have to wait for it or remember to do anything — such as docking your iPhone and syncing manually — to stay up to date."

I've been a member for a long time. This is indeed a major misrepresentation on Apple's part.
And I won't be a member when my .Mac comes up for renewal.

[edit] Unless Apple decides to put up Snow Leopard for Premier and Select members of the ADC. If they don't do that then there goes my membership to that also.

Calendar sync is working, but Calendars don't always display, spinning wheel.

Seems like certain MM (Mobile Me) services are working for certain users, and not for others, a user by user basis.

The calendar on MM is most often not working for me; its the quirkiest part of all this so far. I have no problems with contacts on my 2g iphone/imac/MM.

I've had mac.com for years so it just migrated; again with no problem. Got the update and that was it.

this is what they would call a hard release, kinda like a hard opening of a casino or a restaurant. its when they say here it is, lets see whats wrong.... i personally think that give me like 3 more days and **** will be just like the keynote.... from my experience sometimes it's working sometimes it's not... sometime i update ical and my sync thing spins and its on mm ... sometimes it doesn't... i have 3 different comps that are all acting differently...my mbair was working sometimes... my macpro wasn't... my fiancé's g4 is hit and miss.... everything will be fine...

next time apple, have a soft release... let everyone that works for you try it... then get bigger and bigger..etc

rant of the day ;)

They seemed to have omitted the feature to send files via the iDisk ala YouSendIt. This is absent from the web videos now too. Does anyone else's allow this function because this was something I was really looking forward to. This is a real bummer if they just up and cancelled it.

I noticed this as well, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. This was one of the first things I tried to do on MobileMe. I looked all over preferences, etc., thinking I was missing something. I even watched the MM intro video again and it still showed it there (I think this was Friday afternoon), which is how I figured out that I wasn't missing something: it just wasn't there. If indeed they did remove all mention of it, they did this *after* MobileMe was launched. It's too bad because I was looking forward to this. I hate sending people attachments and clogging up their inboxes. Sending a link easily and quickly would have been a lot better, IMO.

About the 15 minute sync for Leopard (or 1 hour for Tiger, according to the kb page linked in the original post): for most people it's not the end of the world, but it was clearly indicated that it could do this (thanks Peace for finding "proof" of this). I can only guess they decided not to implement immediate push from computer to cloud be to cut down on server use.

Still no upgrade button, and the message there is a problem with this credit card account is still visible.

I'll have to keep checking I guess. I need to upgrade to family pack so that my family all have this amazing service. Well, amazing when they get it working.

Contacts sync

I just got off the line with iPhone support. My problem was getting my contacts to sync via Mobile Me. Others were syncing but not contacts. I found that their server is presently down. He told me to go into www.apple.com/support/mobileme and submit an email asking when to expect it coming back up. He said the problem is actively being worked on and hopefully will be resolved quickly. You get to their email form by clicking on the "Mobile Me Contacts" section.

The devil is always hiding in the details...

"Push mail" requires an e-mail client that support push (in some form). iPhone/touch does have that, but I don't think either Tiger's or Leopard's (stock) e-mail client does. There is (or at least was) a IMAP IDLE plug-in for Tiger, but I'm not certain if Leopard's default e-mail client has it or not. An e-mail client that polls for mail (as I think both Tiger and Leopard does) can't magically handle "push" -- IMAP isn't the same as IMAP IDLE and that's not exactly "push mail", etc. Yadda, yadda, yadda. No enemy would dare bomb this place and end the confusion. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Just a note: the iPhone does NOT support IMAP IDLE (standard push email). They're instead using P-IMAP (Oracle proprietary crap) or some other outdated way of doing it. It'd be nice if they could reveal what they're actually doing so that email service providers could support push email on iPhone.

I'm not even bother getting frustrated of this yet. Going to wait a few days for them to work out the kinks and let if it doesn't work then I'll start to complain.

MobileMe has been pretty bad for me. I've struggled to get my contacts and calendar pushed from my work (Windows XP) machine. In fact still not working. I'm trying to hang in there, but I'm highly frustrated...:(

That was one of the cool things I saw in the MobileMe tour. I was looking forward to playing with it. Where oh where could it be??

I emailed apple about it. They sent me this. So maybe their rolling it out later. But their for sure full of **** about being up on all services. I think their supposed to remove the feature from their advertising after the service goes live though for that little subject to change line to work.

"Dear Chris,

My name is Mike from the MobileMe Support team and thank you for your inquiry about iDisk File Sharing. This feature is not currently available with MobileMe.

When MobileMe was announced, iDisk File Sharing was mentioned as a feature; however, the MobileMe webpage noted that all features listed on that page were subject to change. When MobileMe was released on July 10, 2008, iDisk File Sharing was not included. I apologize for any inconvenience.

However, you can certainly use the Public folder of your iDisk to share files. You can access your Public folder through the new MobileMe interface. The new Internet address (URL) for iDisk Public folders is this:

http://idisk.mac.com/membername-Public "

Hi Folks, im sorry to hear about the issues. I was planning on getting MobileMe but from all the issues i am hearing about, is it worth it? I mean i have PC and and an iPhone 3G, will I be facing any issue with "push" email ?

Pushing

I just sent an email from my Mac and instantaneously it showed it as "sent" on the iPhone. Then, I sent an email on the iPhone and in seconds it showed up as sent on the Mac. This was using my .Mac or .me account.

Have not tried it with the AOL account yet. Also made the family pack work-- added another account.

wow me to instant.. i also just made a calander event and it was in ical before me.com

seems as if you do something on your phone or on me.com your comp instanly updates... but as of now if you do anything on your mac, it doesnt know its done... but try it.. make a contact on your phone watch your comp update

It is if you close your Notebook 10 seconds after adding a new entry in Calendar.

Then before you close the notebook hit the sync button how hard would that be? Im sure they will get it working as it should soon, you people are pathetic.

no its workin for me as if i make a contact on me.com or my iphone, the "cloud" sees it and telss the comp to sync... make a contact on me or you phone and watch the sync wheel

Well, I would think it would 15 minutes. The MobileMe to Mac sync is "push" or at least instantly triggered sync. I would think that the Mac -> Me sync (after 15 minutes) should trigger the normal instant Me -> Mac sync on other computers, but I haven't tested this.

arn

Correct. But your original statement about push from mobileme to mac is incorrect. There is absolutely no push in any way shape or form from or to the mac. All of it is sync at 15minutes. Some may be confused because their mail is set to check every minute. That's not push. Turn mail to check every half hour and see what happens.

I can even email something from my mac to myself and it doesn't come for 15 minutes!

Plus, now my calendar won't publish, and you have to sync, then shut off ical, then turn it on again to get the new data.

Plus of course the false advertising. I've been a .mac guy since itools and this is hardly an advancement.

Even my online calendar and iphone calendar doesn't show the correct data. I set it to show 3 months and it only shows one.

They need to fix all this crap fast.

At first I didn't see the point but now I am understanding that since we the world of computing is becoming web based I see why Apple basically requires the desktop/notebook user to surf to MobileMe to make calendar changes and so on in order to perform an immediate push. It's not an excuse but it's just that it seems to be the direction we are all going and not just with Apple.
Incidentally in case no one has noticed if you have a local iDisk set up on your desktop you get immediate sync anytime you add items to it. The local iDisk is the only thing that gets an immediate push from the desktop.

Sorry, no. Nada. Except the 15min (or sometimes 30 or 45) interval.

There's no sync involved with idisk. You're actually putting files onto a remote disk. It's always worked that way. The only diff was that recently they added a local cache that mirrors the idisk so you could see it when you were offline.

And nobody uses a web calendar instead of a desktop if possible. It should be seamless like exchange. It is not. It is not exchange for the rest of us.

As a registered Apple Apologist, I admit I find some strange pleasure in watching Apple engage in indefensible behavior. I think it is the heart of capitalism when the loyalists (again, like me) say they ain't drinkin' the Kool Aid.

No you are wrong. Updating MM Calendar/Address Book is kicking off automatic sync on Mac for many of us. If you haven't already watched this:
