It is a major PITA most of the time, with very little respect given.

There's a little of that, yes, but there are also some benefits and interesting aspects as well, at least on this forum. Although it can have its ups and downs, to be fair, it also has its own rewards, depending on the type of person you are, how you organise your work, how you relate to other people and what this forum means to you.

I recall that when I first saw a post from you back when you were a mod, I was scared, well more like terrified. I thought you were the boss of moderators and reported to the admins.

MacDawg told me that it would be good to have her on my side, but not to worry because she would like me. I was very timid when I first signed up.

That perception was entirely in your mind, I'm afraid. All the admins talk to all the mods. There is no ranking or hierarchy in that sense. Besides, most of the helpful stuff I used to do was often unseen. I'm not an ogre. :(

For the people volunteering, do you really want the job? Seriously?

I admin a very big forum. Not the amount of unique users at MR but it is rather large. It is a major PITA most of the time, with very little respect given. You are constantly being questioned about your actions. You can never make everyone happy. You have to delete spam. You get constant PM's "can you change my user name", "this guy called me a name" yada-yada-yada. You have to deal with vindictive users who target others for nothing other than inflating their e-penis. It has literally sucked most of the fun out of that forum for me.

Seriously, the job is thankless and some of these people devote TONS* of their free time to make the experience better for all. But it isn't easy and it isn't a walk in the park. You will, ABSOLUTELY, be looked upon differently as soon as your status is changed and mostly not in a good way.

My $.02

*getting a PM email on my iphone while I'm at the bar to delete spam. Yup, just what I felt like doing at the bar!

In my experience, moderators who feel like this tends to make bad mods. Perhaps that other site needs more mods or you need to step back from it.

I eventually realized that within a couple of months thanks to a helpful mod and a helpful forum member. Both are/were (one is banned) really helpful in many situations.

I am their main Admin. I actually publicly quit the position because I was tired of not making everyone happy. I was surprised at the overwhelming support from the long time members urging me not to go and how good of a job I was doing. Good thing you can pass judgment on someone you don't know so quickly, you sound perfect for the job!

I loves me some BV.

You had a great moderating style and I personally miss it around here.

Where did I pass judgement on you? You're a bit touchy on the subject, guess I struck a nerve.

Now now kids. We all know if arn inc. decides they need new mods they will make a decision based on their criteria not on what anyone says in this thread.

So go out and hug a tree..Or drink a glass of milk.:p

I can spot a troll at 60 paces. What about you?

I like how you don't answer the question, but rather attack the person asking it. Isn't that typical troll behavior?

Again, what experience do you have that you can tell someone like advres, who has been an admin, what it is like to run a forum, if you yourself never had the experience? Please do enlighten us with your wisdom.

What attack? You seem somewhat paranoid. If you inferred that rdowns was calling you a troll then that's your inference which is down to you and you alone. Perhaps a sign of a guilty conscience? Do you think, deep down, you aggressive questioning is somewhat troll like?

If we're nominating people I have a few ideas:

-aggie- and jav6454 to mod the iPhone forums.
Waloshin for the Community forums
DesignerDale for the photography forum
Rom ... I mean cindori for the MacPro forums
SchilderMan for the Purchase Thread (just the thread)
Dagless for the gaming forum
MacNut to mod the site and forum feedback forum
rdowns to mod the PRSI forum

You all can thank me later.

Being mentioned in a post by jessica.: $0

Being mentioned with waloshin in a post by jessica.: priceless

YEaaH, i guess I am a bit touchy on the subject, guess it struck a nerve. He totally didn't pass judgment on me.

Since many folks are volunteering themselves, I'll do that as well ;)

I could do the OSX and Mac applications forums. I even promise not use MAC when talking about apple computers :p

In my opinion, anybody asking to be a mod probably won't get to be a mod. (I mean seriously asking, I enjoyed the joke posts in this thread :D)

I'd do anything but the iPhone forums :p
