*getting a PM email on my iphone while I'm at the bar to delete spam. Yup, just what I felt like doing at the bar!

Why do you feel the need to act on a PM to get spam while you're at a bar? This has less to do with being a forum admin and more to do with not having the ability to separate one's elife and one's real life.

Again, what experience do you have that you can tell someone like advres, who has been an admin, what it is like to run a forum, if you yourself never had the experience? Please do enlighten us with your wisdom.

Um, nobody knows if advres is an actual admin in the first place. Even if he or she is or isn't, it doesn't really matter. Your logic fails miserably anyways. I've never been buried alive, but I can tell you with certainty that I don't want it to happen to me.

So xUKHCx got promoted, and that's it? No new mods? 2 new mods should do.... I still keep seeing the forums mods less for extended periods of times.
The newly promoted God said that it is "a situation that is being worked on". Maybe its apart of his new duties to pick new mods?

I doubt the mods are chosen by one person. Usually multiple sets of brains can do better job than one and it also makes the decision more unbiased. I'm sure it's not an easy decision to make, there are so many choices! I guess we will see what happens...

Stalker... :p

The site overhaul has been being worked on for several years now I think (speaking as a user)... but I'd say we'll have some more mods by Christmas. Assuming anybody wants to be a mod...

No new mods?

Patience. These things can take a while, tons to consider. From experience, thoroughness and deliberation tend to go into these types of processes.

After all, new mods coming on board doesn't mean sudden changes to the site. When all is said and done, it's just a tech forum with some community stuff; waiting an extra hour or two for some post reports to be dealt with isn't the end of the world, after all. Major visible irritants like spam still tend to be dispatched fairly quickly.

Still can't believe you haven't been selected.

That took you long enough.

Understandable.

In my opinion, anybody asking to be a mod probably won't get to be a mod. (I mean seriously asking, I enjoyed the joke posts in this thread :D)

That's not quite true, but I don't know how it is here. Other places it's alright to ask about it, because it shows you're serious about the community and have a sense of contribution - or at least, you want to know how to make it a better place. Moderating a forum of any size - but especially one this big - is no piece of cake. It's a responsibility.

And Mods not being in evidence doesn't meant they're not on, it just means what time they have to spend on MR they have to use for other things; I'm sure more than a few would rather be browsing and chatting rather than dealing with other stuff.

It's fine to ask... obviously asking doesn't guarantee you get to be a mod but it doesn't discount a person at all either. Ultimately we go by midi-chlorian count anyway.

How does the site pick out mods? By the quality of reports we send in?

Not sure if I, or anyone else who's not a mod or admin should say, but since it has been brought up in public by admin before, I guess it's OK for me to partially answer the question. (if not, then delete this post)

They don't go by quality of reporting. I doubt it would have any influence. In addition to the obvious personal qualities you'd need, things like which forums you regularly visit, the time zone you live in, and the amount of time you spend here are aspects they consider.

Being a mod is voluntary, so they can't just make you patrol a group of forums you wouldn't normally visit. Instead, they choose good people who post in forums that may regularly need cleaning up, but

And posts take a long time before they're cleaned up because some naughty posts are never reported. It's not necessarily because there aren't enough mods. It's just that mods don't act on naughty posts that aren't reported unless they happen to read that post or thread while browsing. That's why the forums you frequently post in is a factor.

Then you'd realize I've aways said I'd suck as a mod and would do a horrible job at it. Hence, his comment was mute and useless.
I know some people have a hard time picking up on sarcasm without the appropriate  But maybe when they fail to pick up on it makes it all the better for the rest of us.:p You know what they say, when the avatar fits...
