Mophie's 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe has been temporarily removed from the Apple online store due to ongoing charging issues. You also can no longer purchase the accessory directly from ZAGG's website.

Beginning in late June, users in Apple's discussions community began pointing out an issue where an iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods placed on the charger would fail to get a consistent charge. The devices would constantly ping as they disconnected and reconnected to the charging source.

Many of the users in the thread on Apple's discussions community mentioned that they had owned the Travel Charger for over a year with no problems, and all began having the same issue around the same date. Apple has now recalled the accessory, so if you purchased it at an Apple Store or on Apple's website you can contact them for a full refund.

In a response on its website, ZAGG noted that it is aware of the issue with the Travel Charger, "which can cause intermittent charging with your device." The company said it has identified the issue and will release a firmware update to the accessory soon. It's unclear when the Travel Charger will return to the Apple Store and ZAGG store.

Mophie originally launched the Travel Charger in January 2022 at a price of $150. It's a MagSafe-compatible accessory that provides simultaneous charging to an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. It includes a USB-C wall adapter and USB-C cable in the box.

(Thanks, James!)

Have 2 of these and after working perfectly for a long time, this started happening to both in the last 2 weeks.
I have one and never had any problems with it… I don’t use it as often, only when I travel and my last trip was in early June.

How does one go about upgrading its firmware? 🤔

First, I have heard of that. Where is that documented? If I go to the Apple store with my receipt and product, they will refund me?

Apple has not made any official comments on the issue nor do they provide any such responsibility. They direct you straight to the manufacturer. In this case it's Zagg. Zagg has stated that they are due to release an updated hardware product which they will send out to affected customers when they obtain a new shipment of fixed product. :)

Apple are now accepting returns and providing refunds if you have a valid receipt. The store I went to confirmed they have been recalled (I submitted this article to macrumors and here is my post from earlier today https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254963330?answerId=259311739022#259311739022)

Oh hell, I'm one of the many who have been dealing with this issue - mophie/Zagg is unhelpful at best, saying a fix will eventually be made available, but in the meantime denies all replacement claims. Going back to the Apple Store for a refund yield the same sort of frustrating "you're on your own, sorry" response because I was out of the 15-day period during which refunds are issued.

For a CA$200 charger, I can say this is very disappointing on all sides.

It’s now been recalled (this week). Go back and you’ll be able to get the refund. I bought my device last December and got it refunded today!

Thanks! I'll give it a shot, last I spoke with them 10 days ago they tossed me around to 5-6 agents who wouldn't give me the time of day.

Moving away from this to a compact GaN charger and three short cables (watch/USB-C/Lightning) has greatly improved my travel life, even though there’s a little more to keep track of. When you’re on vacation or on the go all day, getting a fast-charge top-off in the hotel room between stops becomes that much more important, and these wireless solutions just aren’t good enough for that.

I went into the local store today where we purchased it from in December and they said it been recalled and refunded.

Btw. I went to the same store three weeks ago when it first stopped working and the store told me to contact Zagg under warranty and that’s what this article is based on and my original Apple discussions post linked above.

Soon as I heard they had been recalled this week I went back to the same store and the manager straight away said “yup, recalled this week. We'll refund you now”.

Had mine for 11 months with no issues when I started getting the inconsistent charging. After a lot of time trying to explain the issue, Apple sent a replacement which almost immediately suffered from the same problem! A lot more spent time speaking to Apple and asking for a refund (they refused) and a second replacement was on the way, only to be cancelled before it arrived. I’ve finally been refunded and an Anker Cube is on the way (they are currently 15% off the Anker website). Fingers crossed no more charging woes!

how is this better than the $30 no name knockoffs on amazon? i have a couple of those and they work great.
You get more then twice the charging speed on MagSafe compatible iPhones using certified MagSafe accessories like this

I’ve tried the cheaper ones and have had issues with devices heating up, inconsistent charging and impact on battery health. Hate to say it, but official Apple components do seem to work better despite their higher price tag.

This is why “I” prefer to just buy Apple products. Just my personal preference with a few exceptions.

Yeah, cheap stuff will use the lowest-cost components possible, like garbage-quality capacitors. Good manufacturers will use components that last longer, and may be a bit more efficient.

I bought mine through Zagg, so no refund for me. It's never been super reliable, but definitely is pretty useless right now. I also like the fact that's Zagg's support page doesn't even recognize this device (either Mophie or Zagg branded) exists.

Silly question probably, but did you need to bring it with you when you went in? Just asking because I could stop in on my way home...
