If you "just" bought them, they likely are the new versions that had new firmware. Zagg released revised versions that supposedly fixed the issue.

Did you buy them from Apple? I ended up not waiting for Zagg and returned the old version to Apple for a full refund before just buying the new version which has worked flawlessly so far.
In fact again if you "just" bought one, it has new apple watch fast charging and is an entirely new version. That firmware update kit is not intended for it and probably messed something up. I'd return to wherever you purchased.
