Wait a second, 17" MBP being phased out? What does that mean? 18" forthcoming? Whatever, I just hope the gloss doesn't look too crazy next to my matte 30".
hahahaha if half this stuff is true i am sooo glad i have my MBP and not selling to get the update. glass trackpads? only glossy screens?!?!? screw that man.

I prefer a matte display but was gonna downgrade to a macbook for portability sake anyway, at a long shot a matte option for MBs was what i was hoping for!
But a drop in processor speed... i dont think so, it looks like i will have to shell out some cash on top of my MB sale to get the high end MB later today... (its tuesday here already!)
Please make the 2.0 for $1299 be a typo!
At least a 2.2ghz for the mid end i should hope/think/speculate......

Glossy screens suck harder than a drunken sorority girl. I guess if this is true, it'll be official: Mac Pro becomes the only Mac worth owning for people who want more than a well-marketed toy.
Tempting stuff, Apple. Real tempting...
If it holds true that the new MBPs are glossy screens only, that will be another reason to hold off until January for the updated Mac Pros. I'm a graphic designer.
Hopefully this will all make sense tomorrow.

And the fingerprints... eek. You'd need one wiping cloth for your iPhone and another for the trackpad. They're slowly turning their user base into full-time cleaning ladies (except, cleaning ladies get paid).

I'd have further evidence that Apple hates their customers and doesn't care what anyone except for teenagers and idiots want.

I'm a professional photographer and I use a macbook *PRO* to do my work, which cannot be achieved with a screen that enhances reality.
I do no know *any* photographer doing editing on a glossy screen. This would be a serious limitation.
I sold my matte MBP just yesterday, knowing I would always have the option to re-buy the 'old' one at a discounted rate.... I may just have to do this as all the new features are offset by this glossy screen :-(

If the rumours are true, I imagine lots of people won't be buying a new MBP. As a current MBP owner (a 1yr old 2.5GB with 4GB of RAM) I'm certainly not prepared to buy a new MBP with only the option of Glossy screen. I hate them! Anyone wanting to create or edit any sort of content will be sticking with what they have. The small upgrade benefit just doesn't justify the cost when there are negatives as big as that.

That spotlight must have passed the Ive and the notebook division rather quickly, leaving them in the dark. Or he has stayed at his parent´s house in Essex all summer.

Oh man... that would be disastrous (and kind of a stab in the back) for us designers... LOL.
If the new LED 24" display "saves the day" by being matte... at least it will be something for me to look forward to.
I'd really love to know why all of you people hate glossy so much? What's the big deal?
My girlfriend is in her third year studies of graphic design and she's using an iMac 24" at home for all her work. It's glossy and she doesn't seem to suffer from it being glossy? What in fact is there to hate about a glossy screen? I just don't seem to get it all.
Besides she's also in the waiting game like all the rest of us to update her iBook with a new MacBook. And I'm looking to buy my first Mac Notebook! A 15" MBP please. One that will also be capable to play Starcraft 2 / Diablo 3 at high quality with decent fps. And for the rest I'll use in combination with my M-Audio musical equipment / dj stuff.
Maybe that'll be the "haha, suckers" hook from Apple.
