Forgive me if the point has already been made . . .

Having the trackpad be "clickable" (as in, physically moving and acting like a button) seems ridiculous to me. I hope that is false and that someone simply misunderstood the standard tap functions.

It seems ALMOST as ridiculous as making it out of glass. Ever slide your finger across an iPhone? Takes about a week. That would be LOADS of fun trying to use a pointer on a 15" screen

One of two things is about to happen: Apple will blow us way by showing us something that does NOT correspond with latest rumors or....

We are in for the letdown of the year..maybe 5 years

I know several pro photographers who works with a macbook. Stop kidding yourself, lightroom and photoshop works perfectly with an integrated GPU. Thay have a glossy screen and they don't whine like lillte spoiled child.

I never had any problem with glossy screens. Remember, 500 person on a forum aren't necessarily a good sample of the buying population.

It's blatently obvious you havn't worked in a light airy studio on a glossy screen

It's blatently obvious you haven't been out presenting website development ideas to a client and had them go "sorry, I can't see that, lets try and find somewhere darker" - VERY unprofessional situation.

The list goes on.

Glossy screens are NOT suitable for pro users. Apple should know this.

You say the whiners are only a small sector of the buyers. Well take a GOOD look at the MacPro laptops out there....how many PROS do you see buying glossy screens? I'm talking about proper PROS.

wake up call...

I was holding out for a MB Pro. if Dell could run OSX I'd have a quad laptop right now. but for the price and features, I can (and I mean, should!) wait til January for the Nehalem Desktops with Snow Leopard. seems that will be a winning combo. ;)

Something about all these rumors don't add up, each site was reporting different things last night and different prices were coming in from different stores. I think those pictures look fake there are some parts on them that look clearly altered. And they say it has a glass track pad but it does not look like that to me in the picture? I just hope they are all wrong and Steve totally surprises us today!

DAMN YOU APPLE! I hope these price points aren't true...1299 for a 2.0 ghz? You kidding me? Anyone wanna sell their 2.4 blackbook to me? hahha

I did. It's a consumer feature, only wanted for an end user watching movies, not exactly a pro feature for people using their computer to actually create contents.

Creative people, they think the world stops when they think.

Sounds like a really good deal of me (the MB)...I hope it's the DDR3 memory though....just for the sake of being DDR3 and not for the performance....please make it one tone too!

As much as there is to gripe about this morning, I don't see an issue with Glossy display only. IMO, its about time. I bought a MBP without the glossy screen and it was the stupidest choice I've ever made. The flat display is terrible compared to the Glossy.

Since then, I've purchased a glossy iMac and glossy Macbook. Glossy all the way. Flat is dead.

These rumors seem very schzophrentic, with unfinished updates/work, price and configurations that just do not make sense for an update of the MB/MPB lines.....

I wonder if we were clammering so much for an Oct 14th date, that Steve could not take it anymore and said - "Here -will this just shut you up for now??? to show you we are doing something!!!! """ wouldn't it be intersting if he came out and showed us this and then at the end said:

" Oh by the way, these are prototypes of what may be to come - you will see the real ones in January at macworld and then I will have a shipping date for you..."

Apple's stock would tank seriously, but would that all kick you in the pants for keep demanding something happen today.... :p

I am reminded that Apple has changed it's strategy about pulling "leaked" photos from the interwebs. Maybe the new strategy includes flooding them with false or close, but false images.

I agree. We need to wait until we all react.

I am not really liking the glossy screen, but unlike the other posters I don't do any color sensitive work on my laptop monitor anyway. Even with a matte screen your current MBP isn't going to have the screen you need for professional color accurate work, hook your laptop up to a nice 30" ACD and your set :)

How many true professionals are buying MacBook Pros and using it as their ONLY machine for such work? How many professionals make up those purchasing MBPs? Not as many as you think.

And if they're using Matt screens...I have not a clue what that is :p

Glossy screens do NOT produce that much of a glare. They do over-saturate the colors, however.

The Nvidia GPU has CUDA: http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_home.html

NVIDIA CUDA™ technology is the world’s only C language environment that enables programmers and developers to write software to solve complex computational problems in a fraction of the time by tapping into the many-core parallel processing power of GPUs. With millions of CUDA-capable GPUs already deployed, thousands of software programmers are already using the free CUDA software tools to accelerate applications—from video and audio encoding to oil and gas exploration, product design, medical imaging, and scientific research.

There is a whole lot of whining. I bet the majority of whiners aren't even in the market for a new laptop anyway. It's like me whining about the new Toyota Camry coming with side airbags when I won't be buying a new car for 5 years.

And what's with the article rating? Is there even any point? Hundreds of "negative" ratings for what has been the most accurate source of info thus far? Not to mention one of the most respected bloggers around? Amazing.

$900 for a 24" 1920x1200 LCD is not outrageous. Yes, it is a premium price, but with the standard Apple markup and extra features they will undoubtedly add (magsafe power cable built in for your macbook power needs) make up the difference.

I wonder if the glossy whiners have used it for more than a day. I prefer the glossy screen, especially since it means I don't get the usual "greasy" look of matte LCD. The image on my Macbook glossy was outstanding (ignoring the crappy viewing angles).

Lack of Firewire on the Macbook blows fat nuts, but maybe there is a workaround, possibly Apple branded.

^ nothing but overexageration. I'm a DJ, and I work with a different PROPER PROS every weekend. They all use MacBookPro's every single one in the industry. And None of them know, nor care what kind of screen they have. In fact the only NON glossy screens I see are on people who still lug around old powerbooks.

sorry, you're overblown and inaccurate.

I'm going to the apple store to see how it feels in my hand and how it looks overall before I can buy this THING. Yes, this monstrosity. I'm not sure I can call it a macbook right now. I guess everyone has their frankenstein one of these years. Maybe this is apples turn.

I'm going to Regent St this evening...

I really hope it's not as ugly as the picture looks - been waiting for 2 months for this and I couldn'#t bring myself to buy one out of date.

Glossy screen doesn't bother me as I've had it on my MB for a couple of years now so I guess I'm used to it - but god, the bezzle on my MB looks smaller than the one on the pro now.

I'm just speachless really...

Roll on 18:00/

If anything, the lack of FW should be the killer on this, not the display. You can hook that computer up to any display that you want, matte or otherwise, and be fine. But if no FW...well, that kills it for me.

No matte screen on the MacBook Pro???? Time to say goodbye to Apple for me. It was nice as long as it lasted.
Guess this is my last post on this forum.
Bye, bye.
Goodbye, don't let the door hit you. :D

Amazing? Last minute details are usually accurate, and the content of those details (aside from the screen info) is positively terrible for anyone expecting 1) a desirable new laptop
2) a helpful boost in stock.

The rating is appropriate.

You need to meet a few people who aren't called Matt!

But I agree, although in my workplace most people are using high performance PC laptops, no-one ever uses a glossy screen.
