I know several pro photographers who works with a macbook. Stop kidding yourself, lightroom and photoshop works perfectly with an integrated GPU. Thay have a glossy screen and they don't whine like lillte spoiled child.

Well, if you go that way, Lightroom and Photoshop also work perfectly fine on a PC under Vista, they do come with matte screen and they cost quite less than a MBP (or even a MB)...

I would rather use these tools on a Vista PC with a matte screen than on a Mac notebook with a shiny display... The loss of pleasure and ergonomics from the later is just too high a price to pay for a somewhat nicer OS.

Wait a minute... 1299$ for a 2.0 GHz?!

Can't I get a 2.1 GHz now for like 1099$?! :(

I really hope these pricings are false...

I thought we learned during the Great Processor Speed War last century that chip speed is not "the end all and be all" of computer performance.

As someone who has been waiting patiently with a super old Toshiba for Apple to finally release their new MBs I have to say this run has been quite the rollercoaster.

I'm OS agnostic, I use them all daily so that is minor. All I wanted was a basic MB with a superdrive and even basic Nvidia/x4500 graphics with solid battery life at what I had hoped would finally be a reasonable $799 price point. When I started to hear $899 I was still OK if it meant a RAM/HDD bump. Now after the wait even my basic needs seem to be unattainable which is a shame.

Just to hedge my bets I have a cart with an Inspiron 13 mid-model (2.0C2D/3gb/250GB)*and* a mini 9 added sitting at $1179 total. I'm no Dell fan but I can get a new notebook and my wife a mini for over $100 less than this "base" rumored MB. It just isn't worth it.

As much as I look forward to plunking down some cash on a new MB I'm starting to worry it won't happen. In fact had the initial $799 happened we had talked about ordering two. I fear Apple may be missing the boat here today, but hoping not. We'll see!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

The glass track pad sounds like a crack or break waiting to happen. How neat would it be to have an LCD in the track pad? You could customize different areas of the pad to do whatever you want.

i for one is excited about the launch but I can see why a few think that its going to be a huge disappointment...

it seems that its the current macbook, with a few upgraded parts in a new shell?

Glass trackpad? It's sleek, but necessary?

Necessary? Bwahahahaha. How many times does SJ push out a new feature that no one thought was necessary only for it to be questioned at release and to become an industry standard months later. If you truly only want necessary then Dell has a nice Inspiron calling your name.

DAMN YOU APPLE! I hope these price points aren't true...1299 for a 2.0 ghz? You kidding me? Anyone wanna sell their 2.4 blackbook to me? hahha

I gotta 2.2 Blackbook but if these rumors are true think I'll keep it glad I didn't ebay a week and a half ago! :D

I agree. If Apple goes gloss/glare-only, then I have to switch to PC.. Too bad, really love the Leopard and all nice apps..

Glossy laptop and matte external display is not an option.

4h...

I'm a DJ, and I work with a different PROPER PROS every weekend.
You're a DJ => you work with music pros nor image pros, why would music pros give a damn about glossy or matte? Was it too hard to understand that "pros" in that case meant "pros in image-related fields of art"?
It often leads to some Messianic figure manipulating others to his/her bidding. Think Manson.
Credibility = 0.
The glass track pad sounds like a crack or break waiting to happen.
I don't think I've heart of many iphone 2G cracking or breaking, and the displays were glass.

Forget "necessary". Is it frosted or have some sort of texture to keep it from being a NIGHTMARE to use?

Seriously, lay and iPhone down and run your thumb over it as if you were using a track pad. Smooth? NOPE.

More importantly, ever since SJ took control of Apple, it's been all about form over function, and the glossy screen issue is a clear cut case of that.

231653-2008-10-13mbpleak-4.jpg

As you can see in this triple-confirmed picture, the camera is now behind the glass, which makes it impossible for them to have a matte screen, or the cam image would be nothing but a grey blur.

Is that a valid reason for going glossy-only? No, if function dictated the design, they would keep the camera outside the glass like they did before, but they felt it was more important to go with this design. Just like they think it's more important to have a thin iPhone with a flush surface on the back, than to have a user-replaceable battery.
So why then have Apple grown to the size they are now under Steve Jobs, he must know something that your surely don't. :D

These macbook differences seem too messy for apple. Im pretty sure the price points are off. Seems wierd too that apple would have an updated line of macbooks, and keep the older model for the 1099 price point

3 hours, 30 minutes to armageddon :(

Don't be dramatic.

Good riddance. If you're willing to leave a great OS, a great user experience, and great quality hardware and go back to Windows then you were never meant to be here.

And what pray tell do you think an update is if not a few upgraded parts and a new shell. Heck the first MBP wasn't even much of a new shell and mostly just upgraded parts. You must be constantly disappointed.
