Very far-fetched approach but...

"greener apple"? Aluminum macbooks and more recyclable parts?

The laser may be a very very loose reference to blu-ray support?

OMG I know what it is!!!

Apple have constantly been moving more and more to being as "green" as possible. Well, here we go:

Apple have developed a liquid aluminum which will be used in all future machines. This liquid can form (a la Terminator 2) into any shape and form required. Even better, it can also create any processor and motherboard required.

There will therefore no longer be ANY recycling required on old Macs since with this new liquid, all they have to do is reconfigure your old machine into a new model.

Also, Apple hasn't yet included blu-ray support into any Mac. This has been for a reason. Apple have moved completely past blue laser technology and have developed their own green laser technology. This blows away by 100 orders of magnitude the quality of blu-ray. Also, it is able to read and decrypt any and all DRM installed on current DVD or Blu-ray materials. Steve himself has said that he hates DRM and this is the brick that will end it all. He is also preparing to take over the world music and movie businesses. The RIAA and MPAA better look out!!

Discalimer:

The above has been for your entertainment only. Any similarities to current or future events, persons living or dead, is purely coincidental. ;)

Hmm. Since the pictured book title is "Cryptonomicon"

I think the book is part of the clue.

Cryptonomicon is about code breaking. What uses both codes and lasers? DVDs?

I think this may be an announcement that iTunes will soon support legal ripping of movie DVDs to hard drives without breaking the copyright encryption mechanisms.

Flip4Mac recently released Drive-In which is sold as "Under license by the DVD CCA and DVD FLLC". If Flip4Mac can make that kind of agreement then I can't see why Apple can't have managed it.

If someone else has posted this my apologies, but there is no "mystery" here and it has nothing to do with Apple…

That doesn't mean anything. 9to5 didn't say the image came from Apple only that its a clue. Perhaps the insider is being 'cryptic'?

Anyone notice the colours also line up w/ Nvidia's nicely (black/green). Perhaps its a nod towards the new Nvidia cards that are being announced on the 15th.

Its possible thats the connection to the brick...the person who mentioned the GPU being in the power brick might be onto something. Would definitely make the notebook thinner, lighter & reduce heat.

i think it's going to be an external blu-ray drive. with some way to display movies on older macs without hdcp based hardware.

I think "The Brick" is actually a game development SDK for the Mac platform (all devices).

GPU in the power brick would be stupid. The power brick is one of the hottest parts of the laptop, and doesn't have any fans. The GPU would be crashing constantly, and you'd do long-term damage after a few days. It'd also suck if you wanted to use it off batteries, as most laptop owners do now and again. Oh, and you'd need some kind of connection system that can handle the massive amounts of data that a GPU needs, and do it fast. And if that weren't enough, you'd have to make Windows drivers to make it BootCamp-compatible. So let's rule that one out.

I don't think this image has to do with anything, unless there's some type of Steganography. It doesn't have to do with Blu-Ray: green wavelengths of light don't have any benefits over blue - in fact, they've got a larger wavelength (shorter frequency).

Why is this kind of story covered. 9to5 always says "we'll tell you later" and that's a story? a rummor of a rummor is a story? **** this 9to5 kid

Okay, I'll take a nibble at this worm on a hook...

So I googled "Green Laser", brought me to the entry on Wikipedia "Laser"...

Scrolled down on "green" page search:
"1 W – green laser in current Holographic Versatile Disc prototype development"

Clicked on the link to HVD:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc

"The Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology that would hold up to 3.9 terabytes (TB) of information."

Bla bla bla, did I uncover something that someone else buried recently? Or did I unearth something new?

Anyways, is it me, or is that laser maybe "shrinking" the apple logo?

:confused::confused::confused:

i don't know, you don't know, and 9to5 probably doesn't know or else they would have released it already.

I say let's wait and see what happens Oct. 14th (if anything happens at all)

i'd put my money on an announcement at MacWorld, but, eh, who knows

Then why are you on MacRumors? If you only care about fully detailed and released products, you can simply get your Apple/Mac info by periodically checking the Apple website.

Surely this is mac9to5's pictorial representation of them shining the light on apple (laser) from this world of rumours and secrecy (the cryptonomicon book).

I got that from the front page link for 9to5 mac by the way...

The picture looks like there are two dvd drives. The keys are flat...no black keyboard. Laptop looks definitely a lot thinner...looks great and i hope that's what the new macbook looks like.

I just figured out what brick is.

It's Apple intro mobile processor since the purchase of PA . not to be revealed until Mac's new PDA ships with 10.6 and similar versions of the processor revealed in 3rd generation iPhones & iPod Touch in 2nd Qtr 2009.
