for those who have followed apple rumors and product launches in the past, how long after was an official announcement made once leaked pictures hit the net?

depends. usually the "bigger leaks" like this one occur closer to the release date than just "whispers" of "possibilities".

That said, these apparently came from the same source as the previous 'prototype' caseback shots from a while ago, so this could, conceivably, just be more of the same, and mean nothing.

To further add something semi-constructive, I would like to say, I really think the current macbook pros are great. I would not like to see FW or Ethernet missing from either Macbook, or Pro. I'm not a huge fan of the large touch pad, but I didn't like the chicklet keyboard at first, and now I love it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a slight case change, as this appears to be so anyway. The biggest thing I'd love to see is a true video card on the macbook series, removable drive option on both Macbook & Pro, and a decent speed boost. I also wouldn't mind the option of not having a superdrive, and having an SSD to boot from, and a 500GB drive for media and such. But I suppose people can do that on their own if they wish.

More Confirm news later

In the blog of the pics, 安大 will have more confirmed news :) tonight..It will be US morning time.

If all the photo's are legit, I think your right on the money. To get the price down on the entry level Macbooks, they would end up stripping down the hardware. The Air showed that they are willing to drop firewire if they feel they can.

I could see them offering a upper-range 13" model that included firwire. Like the old 12" Powerbook. Maybe dedicated graphics on the higher end too.

It does seem like there's a trend with Apple removing parts to match or lower their current prices, and then selling them as accessories. IPods used to come with docks, and then they started to not include them. I may be making things up though since it is pretty late.

Hhm, this assumes that somebody could legitimately be in the possession of a camera while being in the factory.

I would expect the factory to be a camera-free zone. In order to take a quick snap you would have to 'smuggle' a camera in, take a picture and 'smuggle' the camera out again. If somebody found you in the possession of the camera after you had taken the picture this would make quite some nice evidence.

So from a logistics point, it might actually be easier to do this 'smuggling' act only once...

haha your kidding right? smuggling a tiny phone with a camera on it? or smuggling a lap-top aluminum casing of the assembly line and out the building?

yeah right, where is the logic behind that?

I so don't get the big buzz over this. It looks almost the same as the MacBook Pro sitting right here except it's a tad thinner and has the optical drive in another location. Some people have been whining about how the MBP hasn't had a "major" redesign in years. I assume these aren't the same people fawning over this.

Personally, I don't think the MBP is too thick. What is it, an inch? I'd rather have it run cooler and faster at its current size than to keep shrinking it just for shrinking it.

However, if this is a MacBook redesign, I get a bit of it. Problem is that it's just a case. They could pull a fast one and put a Celeron processor in it! :)

i just thought of something, the fact that we only have pictures of the bodies of the new macbooks and not the monitor part could mean that the employee that snuck these out works in the part of the factory that makes that particular part of the cases, giving these pictures further legitimacy...

Where did you read this?

安大 is Angarsk-Daqing: Angarsk and Daqing are towns in Russia and China respectively, and there is a planned oil pipeline between them.

Please google 安大. It is just a name - nick in this case...It can be so many things...

Edit:
Just to add. http://anthony.tw.apple.pro is 大安的安大

and 安大 is the poster of that blog. So that clears it up..It is just a play of words. He is just one of the site's member.

I am not kidding. I am merely suggesting that there might be the possibility that it could actually be easier this way.

It would really depend on the security they have in place there. Going through a security gate is only one factor in the equation. While you might have no problem bringing the camera through the gate, you have it with you all day and also have to take a picture without anybody noticing. So you have an exposure window of a whole day.
With smuggling out the case the exposure is only when you try to bring it out. While you are on the factory you are not doing anything suspicious - handling pieces of aluminium is part of your job description...

That's a good point.... if making a fake, why don't make the monitor part too...
However, it may be a fake pic from a smart hyper.
I believe they're real pics but i wouldn't discard the possibility that they're just prototypes.

maybe the worker who took it home didn't have a camera phone? anyways, someone already wrote out a possible scenario of how someone could take one out of the building. think about it, if it was so easy to take a picture at the factory instead of taking one at home, don't you think we would have seen it already?

Good stuff, good stuff. Let's see if the new nVidia card is an add-on and not standard in the MB, since there are all these rumored price points...

Oh, and another thing.

If you are planing something like this yourself. Don't use a camera-phone. Leave out the phone part of it. I think no worker in this factory is allowed to have a phone and phones are easily detectable - they tend to send of electromagnetic waves - even in your pocket.

Am I the only person who wouldnt mind a thicker 15" and 17" MBP with a Quad core in it?

I love how these Laptops keep getting thinner and thinner but seriously, it can only get so thin before you cant put anything powerful in there
