I don't know where this obsession with 'thinness' comes from. After a certain point it has no functional value - to the contrary...
People aren't bitching because they can't easily hook up a TV dude.
It's all about a port that is A) small B) HDCP compliant C) can do audio too.
Obviously you can make a workaround and go with an adapter and optical, but's refusal to go with a port that EVERYONE ELSE uses is kind of annoying. There are those Mac users (like myself) that want a Mac that is designed more like a PC notebook (read: function over form) I want a Mac that has holes in the bottom to vent its heat. I want a Mac that is less a piece of art and more well-oiled machine.

Although I love the look of macs (especially the current Macbook) I totally agree with you that function over form should be the standard.
Also, I can see you getting ALOT of stick from mac fanboys about this!!

To the contrary what? You would prefer something taking up unnecessary space? I'm all for lighter, thinner, smaller laptops. As long as the display stays the same and a good-sized keyboard (and trackpad, FW/USB/DVI ports) is there, shave off all the room you can.

I'm afraid this will be another boring update with no innovation. Still the same old 10 years old design. Maybe time to buy a new brand.
Im not saying like retarded thick. Nothing like 2 inches or anything. But right now I rock a MBP. Its 1 inch thick.... currently houses a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. I would not mind a 15" MBP that is 1.33 inches thick, that would give me a quad core processor and a better video card.
To the contrary, meaning that as it becomes thinner and thinner there is less space available for efficient cooling, less space for a capable battery, less space to put the interfaces...
I am not saying they should become thicker. I merely state that there is a certain 'optimal' thickness, where after you sacrifice function for looks!
Oh, I am also very much for smaller laptops. How about a 12" MBP? This is very much smaller than a 15" which is stupid obsession on thinness.
Not sure that this is the answer to what the last hole is, but does everyone know that there's a mini-HDMI format now?

They are exactly the same. The only difference is the power-on button.. But if you enlarge you can see the pixels are randomized and any photoshopper here will see it's fake.
Even the track pad size is the same :S..
But all right, if Apple decided to use the exact same design of the mac book air and make it thicker (what I think is very unlikely) the pictures could be real...
Only because I have no explanations about how the sides could be fake..
But let's hope they are real and the new macbooks are coming October 14th!

Yes. It's Apple. They'll give you what they want. You won't be happy with everything, but you'll buy it all the same.
For many, it will be worth the wait, but for some (Yixian, Digital Skunkeven though he's waiting with me for Nehalem) it won't be everything and anything.
