I'm amused by how positive so many people are that this COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE the Verizon iPhone announcement. I can understand a slight doubt that it will finally come to fruition after so long, but all signs point to it being Verizon iPhone, so I don't get the denials.

5 years was a rumor, but was never confirmed.

Personally (and without anything remotely close to a source for this) I think Jobs felt severely burned by AT&T when they pulled the bait and switch on the unlimited iPad data plans almost immediately after the iPad started shipping. Any chance AT&T was going to keep most favored network status and negotiate extensions to the exclusivity contract disappeared after that stunt.

Perhaps... would make sense.

However, as (at the time) a non-iPad owner, I was worried how AT&T would handle unlimited data on a much faster, bigger device like the iPad.

AT&T like a true moneygrubbing carrier, "defused" the issue by increasing prices and eliminating choice (no unlimited).

Part of me wonders how Apple and AT&T agreed to those terms knowing that AT&T couldn't handle the load (given their existing problems)?

Even though I'm grandfathered in, having unlimited data on Verizon is also a big selling point.

The AT&T contract termination fees are negated by the fact that you can sell an iPhone 4 for hundreds of dollars.

That's if Verizon's iPhone plan is unlimited. I'm more curious to see if Verizon is going to subsidize the iPhone as much as AT&T. Will we see $300 iPhone's with contract? 3-year contracts?

Unlock the iPhones

and when it is coming to T-Mobile, sprint and others.

Hope verizon logo is on the iPhone (like originally verizon asked from apple) :D

Sure, in the upper left next to the signal bars. I don't see apple sharing space for a name other than apple on the phone.

The price will have to be competitive with AT&T.

I think Apple and Steve would look WAY cooler and be more respected if they sat this one out and did not make an appearance.

Let the kids open the present and have fun with it.

Don't be the instructional Grandma who totally kills it and works her dentures when it really isn't necessary.

On top of that little horrific imagining....We are all adults and don't need Steve Friggin' Jobs to explain the scenario.................................

........Unless ..............

This Phone has More powers than any other.

Doubtful...

I will be shocked if Verizon doesn't price it competitively with AT&T. And I have never heard of a subsidized phone + 3-year contract deal, though I know Verizon used to (probably still does) offer the option of less of a subsidy for a 1-year contract instead of 2.

B-b-b-but, exclusivity doesn't end until 2012...

B-b-b-but, Jobs would never deal with Verizon after rejecting the iPhone the first time around...

B-b-b-but, Apple would never let Verizon hold the press event for the iPhone 4...

B-b-b-but, Jobs would never let anyone else announce iPhone carriage...

I hope someone is compiling a thread of all the stupidest crap people said on this forum over the last 6-8 months in response to the rumors that clearly suggested the iPhone was coming to Verizon in early 2011. A public shaming is in order for all that blockheaded-ness.

These rumors are beyond absurdity now.

That said, as an AAPL shareholder, I am pleased to see the stock up a couple of dollars in after-hours trading.

wow, again, you point out you're an apple shareholder. thanks again for telling us all that. i almost forgot from your last 500+ posts saying the same thing.

Competition is Great!

I hope Verizon has the iPhone and iPad this Tuesday! I have no issues with At&T outside some coverage, but competition is great!

If Verizon has 4G iPhone, that might be a reason to move over

I can't wait for this announcement, not because I care but because I won't have to see anymore "When will iPhone come to Verizon" posts...

True. But once it happens and when/if all the iPhones on Verizon bog down their network, we'll start seeing "Verizon's network sucks as bad as AT&T's" threads...

Finally. It's about time.

I predict widespread awe on the 11th followed by a lot of moaning and bitching as people see how Verizon's network crumbles when millions of iPhones hit the towers.

I'll sit back and watch.

This. We'll see how "America's Most Reliable Wireless Network" fares with all these iPhones sucking data. Maybe it will hold up OK but I won't hold my breath.
