So I'm curious....anyone else here up for an annual upgrade and have been sitting on it waiting for this to happen? I was eligible in mid-November, which means I'm about 14 months or so into my contract.

Any other "squatters" out there?

Yep! I've been eligible since May of last year. My wife's line has also just recently become eligible. I've been patiently hoping for this day to come, and I can guarantee you that I'll be waiting with baited breath to place my preorder for two Verizon iPhones. :D

Gruber says to trust him, it's the iPhone announcement. He's plugged into Apple, so it's a lock.

Yawn. We've been here so many times before. Listen Rockefeller, no-one cares about your two AAPL shares. Why do you feel the need to keep carping on to everyone about this? Does your huge stake in Apple get you a seat on the board?

Course he isn't, he just needs a way of crowbarring his share ownership into an unrelated thread
They were a confirmation present. If it was a girl they were going to go with a bracelet.

Has it not occurred to anybody that Apple and AT+T may have made a financial arrangement to allow Verizon to carry the iPhone, Apple has 50 Billion in the bank, maybe they spent some of it to facilitate this deal, after all many people in the US can't get an AT+T iPhone because of where they live...just a thought...

Fixed antenna and 64 Gigs please. My 3gs has cracks in the plastic and the finish is wearing. Also, Asheville, NC doesn't have very good AT&T service. Looking forward to this being a slightly tweaked verizon iphone 4. :D

Not for nothing, but Gruber was wrong a couple of times as well.

Nothing is a lock until it is announced.

It's very rare that he is. Last I remember was the trackpad....and he was only off by one release.

And I don't remember him guaranteeing that one.

The consistency of his claims are good enough for me. I recall his posts over the last few months.

Additionally, there were stories in the press on Verizon working to ready their network for the rollout.

Okie doke! I'm sure you can understand my scepticism but if its valid, cool beans

I don't think I've seen him be wrong when he is pushing this hard for it. I trust that he, and everyone else, is right.

Waiting to see what plans Verizon and AT&T offer

Everyone in my family has an iPhone that is eligible for a contract renewal. So if this is the Verizon iPhone we will wait and see what the contract details with Verizon are before making a decision. All of us have been waiting for a Verizon iPhone launch since July 2010. Moving away from just an exclusive AT&T iPhone has to be good for all of us. Our iPhone experience with AT&T has been excellent. Hopefully both AT&T and Verizon will offer new contract plans next week.

Yay, go lag the Droid's network :D
So now those Droid users who got a Droid just for Verizon will be doubly screwed.

Still, AT&T is better for me by a lot. The only thing it needs is 4G, which is coming out. Ima stay on AT&T with my $9.99 flip phone :)

Biz Jet

I tried to track Job's G5 tail number to see if it would be moving to the east coast this weekend but seems as though every flight tracking site has it blocked...

/it was worth a shot

5 years was a rumor, but was never confirmed.

Personally (and without anything remotely close to a source for this) I think Jobs felt severely burned by AT&T when they pulled the bait and switch on the unlimited iPad data plans almost immediately after the iPad started shipping. Any chance AT&T was going to keep most favored network status and negotiate extensions to the exclusivity contract disappeared after that stunt.

I can't leave Sprint. I have had no issues with reception, customer service, or the plans. I want an iPhone. Just have to hope for a Sprint version in the coming years. Meanwhile, congrats to Verizon.

Verizon may just have the best smartphone line-up even without the iPhone, but most certainly if they do indeed get it.

I can image that Apple wouldn't want the iPhone announced at Verizon's CES keynote... with all those Android phones/tables shown. Nobody will try to outshine Apple at any event ;).

I just have to hope that H/Palm delivers a solid phone at their event in February. My wife got the Evo Shift 4G yesterday, so we will be with Sprint for 2 more years, at least....

If AT&T gets and updated iPhone a few months later, it won't be "your new iPhone" getting replaced, it will be the AT&T iPhone 4 being replaced.

The big question I have is will the iPhone Verizon gets next month just be a stopgap until June when both carriers get the next gen iPhone or the same model that AT&T will get later this year. Another possibility is different release cycles for Verizon and AT&T versions of the iPhone. However, I think that's unlikely.

These rumors are beyond absurdity now.

That said, as an AAPL shareholder, I am pleased to see the stock up a couple of dollars in after-hours trading.

Every post I ever see from this dude says "As an AAPL shareholder,..."

Give it a rest buddy...we get it.

I tried to track Job's G5

Based on releases in other countries, about how long after the announcement should we expect to see it available?

All I can say is wait to see the lines. Also if you don't own Apple stock you better start buying because this is going to be huge!

if this is the iphone that they are announcing. i wonder which carrier steve jobs will be with that its on att and verizon. will he stay will att or switch to verizon

You know that is a great question that I never thought of. You figure Apple and their employees have a company contract with one carrier or the other. I will tell you if they switched to Verizon, ATT would take a big publicity hit.
