Whoooo!!!! Since everybody thinks AT&T is a steaming pile of crap and Verizon dropped from heaven, people will switch from AT&T to verizon and AT&T's networks will be even better. I'm going to laugh when people realize all of the shortcomings of verizon when there are too many people on it.

What is everyone's best guess on Tethering? Does Verizon allow you do it for free with Droids and Blackberry's?

Verizon already has more people than ATT. It handles data more efficiently and better than ATT. ATT, is well, just going to stay the way they are now. Crappy. With those locked in contracts.

It is pretty safe to assume it will have unlimited data correct? They would probably at least wait a month to take it away anyway. :p

Seriously though it is a sure buy for me with unlimited data, I can't consider it without it. My mobile device is my main way to get online.

So wait does this mean that the iphone 5 will be for verizon from the get go?
then this is a bad scenario, they should just wait until june to announce this. Its probably to get money off the people

The latter.

Gizmodo did nothing wrong. Apple was stupid to lose the iPhone 4. If Microsoft lost a prototype and all was posted on Gizmodo, people here would love Gizmodo.

It probably wouldn't even show up here. There is nothing "Apple" about an MS prototype, although, I for one would still hate giz for it. Journalists have been increasingly oblivious as to where the boundaries are, and that is what really gets me POed at Gizmodo.

Here's my question: What will everyone say if/when Verizon does NOT announce that it will be carrying the iPhone (on the 11th, at least)?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but... isn't AT&T's exclusivity supposed to end in 2012? Not 2011?
No, you're thinking of the End of the World. Although the two events have been rumored to be tied together in some way.

the at&t and verizon models likely wont be in sync until 2012 when the iphone 6 is released.

What I want to know is, where is Jav, the long-time great Verizon iPhone naysayer? Where is that infamous pic of Att face swallowing Verizon face tears? Yea how about we reverse that.

Anything else more than your word to back up this claim?

Not until next week ;)

Not trying to be an ass but my source would be easy to identify and thus in jeopardy of losing his/her job. So no...nothing but my word for now.

ah, good old Jav. Hope he will be watching the presentation on Tuesday morning.

So many crazy post in this thread. It's NOT an ipad announcement because they already have the ipad. While I have never put so much stock in these threads this is the only one that is looking promising. Except for the fact that a new iphone is right around the corner and the fact that it isn't an Apple event. I don't see them release an Verizon iphone 4 (unless it's release within a week) this close to the release of a new model and I don't see them confirming the new model.

I agree whole heartedly, even as someone who has a fairly liberal mindset. Journalism is going so far, trying to get the biggest possible scoop and all that press. But what is happening in almost every form of journalism is a grotesque invasion of privacy and disregard for common courtesy. The Gizmodo scoop is just that. They did the wrong thing, morally, and got one of the biggest scoops of 2010. I didn't read on Gizmodo before that and I still don't. If I'm a norm, what did they accomplish?

As per the topic of the thread, I'm so sick of hearing "You know the iPhone is coming to Verizon soon?". I've been hearing it, literally, since about a month after I got my first gen iPhone back in 2007.

So what about the simultaneous data/voice problem with CDMA? Or will Verizon's iPhone 4 be the first device (and Verizon's CDMA network) the first network to implement SVDO?

An iPhone without that capability seems absurd and I don't think Steve would stand for it. Thoughts?

Why so much hate?

Really? Is all this bitterness really necessary? People are happy about Verizon having the iPhone because that means option. Why is having option a bad thing? Is US the only country that has to limit iPhone to one particular carrier?

ATT,T-mobile, Verizon Sprint...whatever, they are all here to make money, none of them are in it for charity so there really isn't any point asking who is the best, or who has the biggest customer base. The bottom line is, does it work? Does it work in your area, does it work for your life style, and does it work for your budget?

Take myself for example, I have the iPhone for roughly a year. Our research lab was relocated to a new space where you have no cellular signal other then Verizon and T-mobile and since I work in the lab 8~12+ hours a day I can't afford to not have signal for that long every day. So what do I do, I ditched ATT and gave up on the iPhone, and on top of that I wanted something cheaper and with no contract so I went with T-mobile. Are they the best, for my life style and 99% of where I spent my time yes they are the best. Are they the best when I have to travel out to the woods or out in the field for a trip? Certainly not. But you know what, it works 99% of the time. So I'm going to stick with it. Now if I ever get a new job (new location) will I go back to ATT and get an iPhone? I don't see why not, if I have the money.

So why so bitter? And why SUCH strong loyalty toward a particular carrier? They are just here to make money off of you. Long story short, take whatever that works best for you....

Wait, people were MAD at Gizmodo for giving us the scoop on iPhone 4? Delusional.

Right so we should all be happy that Gizmodo completely disregarded any sort of common decency they could have had for the situation. We should praise them for their disgusting act that probably cost a man his job. And lastly, we should not even consider the fact that, had Gizmodo done the right thing and returned the phone to Apple, they may have received great press over it and a better long term benefit, not being banned from Apple related events. Delusional.

This does raise an interesting question, though: although Verizon is likely to get a copy of the current iPhone 4 (*), what does that mean about the next iteration of the iPhone ("4G", "4GS", "5", or whatever it'll be called)? June isn't all that far away, in terms of product release lifetimes. If Verizon gets the CDMA iPhone 4 soon (Feb?), I think it's unlikely that Verizon will get whatever new version that comes out in June/July. A few months later, but in June/July? Maybe AT&T gets the new version first, and Verizon gets it a couple months later? On the other hand, Verizon could also get it in June/July, although early customers might not be too happy about that.

(*) == While whatever Verizon gets should be more-or-less a CDMA copy, it'll be interesting to see if they've moved the antenna gaps.

Yes but the general public does not follow CES.

You missed the point. Regardless of whether the public doesn't follow CES, the announcement made at CES was a corporate/media/public announcement. It wasn't intended for the "general" public. So if there is going to be another corporate/media/public announcement next week, it's NOT going to be the same thing...

I'm pretty sure that not everyone here is as altruistic as they'd like others to think. No matter what your take was on Gizmodo's actions, I don't think it's a stretch to say that every single one of us was excited when the pictures and information was released.

I'm not saying that I necessarily agree or disagree with what Gizmodo did, but let's be realistic. If we're all coming to a site specifically set up to present us with rumors and leaked information about Apple, we're most likely going to be pleased when events like that take place.

Verizon is working on fixing that issue, but there's no timeline on getting it working. If you do a google search, you'll see a number of hits. Here's one: http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and...ry-Simultaneous-Voice-and-Data-Report-392476/
