I went from not understanding why people want video conferencing to actually using video conferencing once I had kids.
I suspect it's the same for many others.

Chatroulette mobile. Nuff said.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I voted "not at all" in the poll because it's the truth -- I'm not interested -- but Apple has a way of making people suddenly interested in things they weren't before. Nobody was really interested in a consumer tablet computer before the iPad. Most of us weren't interested in smart phones until the iPhone. People weren't that interested in buying digital music online until iTunes, etc.
Who knows, maybe this will renew people's interest...
First thing that popped into my head- if someone gave one to their teenager, they could make the teen video chat to prove that they are where they say they are and with who they say they're with. Obviously, mobile me or whatever can show where your kids are on gps... but the video conferencing would be cheaper.
Does anybody think ATT will try to charge extra for this or just treat it as normal data?
You know, that's an interesting thoght. I wonder if Apple's seeming ability to make things easy and cool will cause people to re-engage in their conversations. We might start speaking in entire sentences instead of tweets!. We want to talk and multitask in the moments in between which we can do much much easier if we aren't also on video.
Really? None of my friends had phones with two cameras; I didn't either. Then again, none of us were interested in smartphones or other high end phones either.Didn't really use video calling apart from trying it out deliberately, even though everyone had two cameras on their phones by 2007. (Until people switched to iPhone...)
I have no need for video chat, but i'm sure Apple will convince me I want it.
When video chat comes to ATT's network, you can be sure you will be paying extra for it. They're not going to let this one get away.
My wife and I have Iphones and are on a family plan.
Because of the work I do touring in Theatre, I am away from home for months at a time. We iChat once a week and talk daily, but having a video chat feature on the phone would be ideal. I'd love to be able to see and talk to her more often. So for my work/lifestyle this could be a big deal.
It's important because it's on the iPhone. If it were on the Droid it wouldn't matter. Funny how that works. Personally I don't give a damn about that feature, but I would really love a built in turn by turn free GPS. Now that's useful. Flash support would be great too.
Video chat will only be available through Wi-Fi. If AT&T can't handle our phone calls, how will they be able to handle our voice chats?
Just get a Nokia E71. I've been video chatting via Skype (fring) over 3G for a long time now on ATT. It's cool...but Apple will get credit for inventing video calls. You watch.
Video calls over cellular networks have existed in Europe for years.
Oh well. The AAPL machine at work, taking credit for existing technology!
Video chat is kinda like GPS when it first came out to me. It seems unnecessary and just "cool" at first, but once you get it, you wonder how you did without.
