Nah, Android being that much more advanced than iOS is an exaggeration IMO. I'm not an apple fan boy, and like Android quite a bit, but having went over to them for the past 6 months and going back to my ip5 I didn't really see very much that was more advanced than iOS. Some stuff, like live widgets were very cool though.

Well that is a well balanced statement. I used Android on varying devices and thought it was okay. Some people make it out to be something that is literally pulled from 1000 years from the future. People clearly have issues with text I guess, I think it's a fine OS but personally would not use it. Preference thing is all. It's Windows 2.0 as far as market share will go, as in if iOS/webOS/Winmo was on that many devices it would get that share by default. Not a bad thing, just the truth.

I was just basically joking around with my post about the "I'm going Android" statement I have seen so many times, over and over and over, and over again. I wondered if someone had switched to Android already and made the statement again and forgot they had switched.

I will start using that in everyday life, if my car breaks down, if I jam my toe, have relationship troubles etc.. I will say "That's it I am going Android!" LOL

I would just hope on the droid forums, that when they change up their OS look that people give google the hate as well. It's better to give all companies the hate because they all should be = to common whores in everyone's mind. They share much in common with whores, so it's a fine analogy to me.

It's just weird IMO, no one I know would tell me that, they would just buy a phone and use it and never comment on it. The statement of switching to any other platform than the current one wreaks of justification for their future purchase. An all too common thing now. They need to be coddled and told they are right. Sweet nothings whispered into their ears.

I'd rather have my visual system working harder to free resources from the brain trying to actually distinguish all the similar-looking things on screen, thank you!

I said that black text on white background was best for reading text. What would you prefer? Randomly colored letters?

Prediction: it will be unanimously hated, then copied by everybody a year down the line.

Prediction: half the stuff in all these rumors will be correct, half wrong

Prediction: about a quarter of the folks on sites like this won't care about the UI changes, the rest will be half and half love and hate. Meanwhile the folks not on these boards won't care and iOS 7 will follow the trend of lighting fast adoption.

"Essentially, each app has a white base with a respective color theme."

am i the only person that read this line in the article? there's still going to be a lot of color....the article didn't say black and white only...just increased use of those color schemes...seems like people read the headline then went straight to the comments.

I hope they don't go too far in the other direction, I kind of like and am used to how iOS feels. They are wasting way too many resources in simply changing the appearance, I mean does anyone really care that much? Wouldn't those resources be better used to actually make iOS better functionally and add new features?

Who says they are spending that much in resources. Much of the changes are artwork, a few perhaps tied to code for animations. How many folks would that take compared to the ones working on adding and debugging new features.

Hmm, I'm going to try that, but I don't think it will go over well with my wife...

Jony needs a new personal photo

Is it just me, or is his facial expression ridiculous? What is he pissed about? Dude, get over yourself!

Reading 9to5Mac's report gives the impression to me thwt Ive has wanted to get his hands on iOS design for quite some time.

Yep, this UI position may have been in the works for a while. Go with that whole thing about how Jony was given levels of power well out of the norm. Tim could have been planning it for a while but iOS 6 was already well under way so it was to wait for iOS 7.

The majority of this forum seems to be in favour of flat design. However I don't think this will be well-received outside the Apple fanbase. Expect to hear casual users of iOS devices tell each other that "The new iPhone update is real ugly, don't get it."

If flat and simple was a "failed" design style then Bauhaus would have never become so popular with the non-art critic public. But it's almost a pop icon now. I think you misjudge the general public. They like simple design too. It's easier to use.

Here is a Mondrian to marvel at (notice it's mostly black and white and basic, yet still sophisticated).

Of course people just saw the headline and said "eww this will be terrible". If one actually read the article they'd get that black and white is replacing stuff like faux linen and green felt. So I don't get why people keep posting that god awful black/white home screen mockup other than they're just being smart asses and think its clever or funny.

Also, if you look at the new Yahoo Weather app for example, this could be what they are going with as well. Also look at my post above if you haven't yet with the Prada Android OS.

I like that idea for opening folders. It's very like Launchpad on Mac OS. Let it fill the whole screen and even perhaps be scrollable with more than the 12 or so apps you can now.

But in terms of a general look I'm not keen

This was posted in the iOS forum. I think this is what's meant by black and white. The question being will will most apps have a white background or will it be a mix of white and black. I'm thinking white. If it looks anything like these concepts below I'll be the first to update. :)

A lot of people didn't realize about this, so I'm glad you've explained it. If people want to see a concept for this:

Yes, getting closer now... imagine, all major details are done by now, just waiting to be revealed to the public, jonathan et al preparing for the event, can't wait :D

So the new iOS 7 innovation is copy MS for the flat feel and go back in time to before colour TV existed for the interface ?

iVE needs to be taken far away from the UI and case design of apple products , let the hardware guys build the guts, then let iVE build the case around the components, instead of building the case and then shoehorning what the can into a cramp, thermally inefficient space.

I wouldn't get the decorator to build my house ! and i would let my builder design it !
