As long as they redesign the app/iTunes stores I'll be happy!

From the 9to5Mac piece:

While the Mail app, for example, is light on many changes, apps such as App Store, Newsstand, Game Center, Safari, Camera, and Weather have seen significant transformations.

Will be curious to see what they're done with AppStore as that was recently redesigned.

I was not thrilled at the idea of "flat". After using Google's revamped apps like play, currents and google now though I have come to like them a lot. I'm interested to see what they do with ios now, if it's anything like google's I could like it a lot.

I agree, the more it resembles Google the better. They know how to make the esthetics look exceptional

it's all going retro -- note the OS9 System font... will look good on the iPhone only if Apple can get the font to be sharp on a smaller screen.

iOS 7 = Mac OS 7

iOS 7 = Mac OS 7

This is the retro, back-to-the-roots release of iOS.

So that Jony can prove that he is the true successor of Jobs.

Fail.

Yeah, and if that's the case let's hope it's something that aids in app discoverability and convergence.

I don't mind the iPad app so much but the iPhone app is pretty horrible. So hopefully they make that one better (sounds like the priority for iOS 7 is iPhone).

If Ive has applied a similar design sensibility to the interface design as he does to his hardware designs, then I think we're in for something quite nice.

Ive is all about letting the hardware get out of the way of the actual functionality and use.

The same could be said for his new interface design - monochrome colours allow the interface to take a step back, while the content such as photos, images, web pages, graphics, games etc can all take a step forward.

I like it. As a designer I can appreciate that while this concept sounds simple to employ, it is actually very difficult task.

Very excited to see what iOS7 AND OS X 10.9 bring.

Maybe Ive can explain why they moved the easy to access SD Card reader from the side of the iMac to the rear then ... being the great designer of functional products that he is!

(and then also explain removing the optical drive from many products ... again, form over function! ... and the ipod nano, and the powermac, the apple tv ..... Ive a great designer ... don't make me laugh!)

So was removing the floppy drive from the original iMac form over function?

Given how many times I've had to explain to customers that we can't disassemble their iMac in store to get their SD card out of the CD tray...I'm glad they made the move.

Hugely inconvenient, yes, but much less so than taking apart the frickin machine because someone was to lazy to LOOK where they were shoving the card.

Geeeez rumors are really getting people all worked up. I think while it will take some getting used to, I will probably get used to it and like it. When they say "black and white", my opinion is everything will be a bit more uniform. For example the iTunes and Video app on the current IOS look COMPLETLY different, perhaps on the new one they may look similar with a slightly different color or something. Maybe he found a way for everything to stand out from one another all while each one looking a bit more uniform. Just a thought. Regardless I am always excited to see what a company comes up with. Its very difficult to create and break a new mold.

It's so funny to see how many people are already bashing something that they've never seen. I wonder if they are rushing their judgments in real life too.

On top of that , all of us, to a person are not accurately able to visualize the interface with the limited information we have.

That means people cheering or jeering the look of something they have no idea what it looks like are crazy.

I'm looking forward to "seeing" iOS 7 but I won't use it even if it is offered(which I doubt) to me. I upgraded from 4.3 to 6.1 and my battery life took a nose dive. I had to turn ALL notifications off and leave it in Airplane Mode. Before, I could go a week without turning it on and then turn it on a watch several hours of videos. Now If I left the wifi on for a week and didn't turn the iPod on, the battery would be dead.

PS. Above device is iPod Touch 4th Gen.

It's probably no big deal for a person who uses and charges their device every day but I don't.

Apparently you don't even charge your device once a week.

Do you live in the woods or are you a kangaroo wrangler in the outback?

With apologies to Billy Crystal, Apple seems to think that it is better to look good than to work good.

Well that is a well balanced statement. I used Android on varying devices and thought it was okay. Some people make it out to be something that is literally pulled from 1000 years from the future. People clearly have issues with text I guess, I think it's a fine OS but personally would not use it. Preference thing is all. It's Windows 2.0 as far as market share will go, as in if iOS/webOS/Winmo was on that many devices it would get that share by default. Not a bad thing, just the truth.

I was just basically joking around with my post about the "I'm going Android" statement I have seen so many times, over and over and over, and over again. I wondered if someone had switched to Android already and made the statement again and forgot they had switched.

I will start using that in everyday life, if my car breaks down, if I jam my toe, have relationship troubles etc.. I will say "That's it I am going Android!" LOL

I would just hope on the droid forums, that when they change up their OS look that people give google the hate as well. It's better to give all companies the hate because they all should be = to common whores in everyone's mind. They share much in common with whores, so it's a fine analogy to me.

It's just weird IMO, no one I know would tell me that, they would just buy a phone and use it and never comment on it. The statement of switching to any other platform than the current one wreaks of justification for their future purchase. An all too common thing now. They need to be coddled and told they are right. Sweet nothings whispered into their ears.

"I'm going Android" is the new "I'm moving to Canada."

iOS 7

i think it sounds amazing. it's corporately amazing, too, that Jony Ive can expand his role and have influence on the interface.

I have downloaded over 10 apps for note taking, and compared them to see which ones are simpler, more dependable, sync better, etc. I could content that I wouldn't have downloaded ANY if Notes wouldn't type with a fake sharpie marker. I think changes like this are VITAL, and Jony Ive and Apple are targeting some of the changes I would want.

If it looks anything like the Music app/player, it is going to look terrible.

When I updated my 4S to iOS6 and saw the new look, I asked myself if I was looking at a beta product. It looked completely unfinished and, frankly, terrible. If this is what we have in store for iOS7, I don't think it is a good direction. Honestly, the Galaxy S4 is becoming more and more appealing to me.
don't! the HTC One is leaps and bounds better. After years on the iPhone (started with 3G and ended recently with the 4S), I switched to the S4. The software on it just sucks. It is functional but that is just about it! So I sold it ang got a One. Boy..what a beautiful phone! The software is functional and tasteful. Works smoothly.Very nice. Plus they got a sync manager for the Mac. Really like it so far...
With the iPhone, i dint think we will see a bigger screen. So no point waiting for that...

Sounds good to me. And it looks like there may be a chance of bringing back colored icons in the sidebar in OSX, they came back in iTunes 11 and that seems to be a sign of things to come.

If this comes to pass - thousands of no talent graphic designers will finally get their shot.

Flat icons and layouts can be banged out in MS paint in about a minute. It's lame and reeks of no creativity.

A great hardware designer does not equal a great graphics designer.

You're reading into this too much. As I've pointed out in other threads, it's not here or there. Adding faux lighting and occlusion/drop shadows isn't any more difficult than something without implied lighting. It's just a difference in style. I'm not a graphic designer, but I could draw either style in MS paint:p. How difficult it is to draw doesn't matter.

Software Similar To Hardware

I'll keep my prediction simple: Jony Ive designs most if not all of Apple's hardware. Which all looks insanely cool and high-tech In my opinion. So I'm guessing hes going to make the ios look a lot like he does the hardware. Insanely simple but spectacular at the same time. He's got taste so I'm not too worried he'll mess it up.

XtraFinder add Tabs and features to Mac Finder.

• Tabs.

• Dual Panel & Dual Window.

• Arrange folders on top.

• Cut & Paste.

• Global hotkeys.

• "Copy Path", "Show Hidden Items", "Hide Desktop", "Refresh", "New File", "Copy to", "Move to", "New Terminal Here", "Make Symbolic Link", "Contents", "Select...", … .

• Light text on dark background.

Colorful icons in Sidebar.

and it's free ('course these "features" should be standard in an OS) :)

God I hope so.
Colour helps navigation and that's exactly what the sidebar in the finder is...a navigation system for getting through the OS.
Why anyone at Apple ever believed grey on grey was better is beyond me.
It was a moronic thing to do and the sooner they put the colour back (or at least give us the choice as a system preference) the better.
For anyone else who misses the colour, help is at hand..

It doesn't work for save dialogues, but it's still better than nothing! :)
