As much as I want a Verizon iPhone, is there enough room in the current iPhone housing to fit both radios? I couldn't see Apple developing another iPhone casing just to fit for Verizon.

I believe there is a CDMA + LTE chip out there. Not sure where I heard that though.

With all the regulation of wall street, I'm surprised ATT can persist in not revealing when its contract with apple expires. That would seem to be substantial information requiring disclosure. Does anyone know how they can do that, or whether that conforms to disclosure requirements for other companies?

If the contract has a clause in which both companies can't say anything about expiration, then no one can pressure them.

Yes there is. However, I think we has referring to GSM/CDMA hybrid.

Also, for the huge potential audience that a Verizon iPhone will open up, I'm sure Apple can find a way to make it work.

Wonder if they'll extend the same deal to MacBookPros in the upcoming refresh?

I'd be more concerned about Google coming out with new stuff every time Apple does over contracts with Verizon.

Google seems to be purposefully trying to copy all of Apple's moves.

The last time I looked there was a single phone sold and branded by Google, the Nexus One and it's only available to GSM networks at the moment.

Where are these other Google phones on Verizion?

The Droid Eris is a HTC handset and the Droid is a Motorola Handset.

...other observers remain skeptical of the benefits of rolling out new iPhone or iPad hardware compatible with Verizon's CDMA-based network just as the company is preparing to transition to the next-generation LTE (4G) standard that will offer global hardware compatibility.

The benefits to Apple, et. al., is pretty clear to me: The millions of people who buy a CDMA iPhone because that's all that is available at first will be desperate to buy a 4G phone once it's out; more phones sold, more contracts signed/extended.

E.g., remember the 1st iPhone was edge. How many of us bought it anyway -- and how many of us have subsequently upgraded to the 3G/3GS?

Doesn't Qualcomm have a CDMA LTE radio in the works? I thought they did. http://mobilesand.wordpress.com/tag/qualcomm/

And AI reports on an aditional iPhone manufacturer just today... http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/02/03/apple_allegedly_selects_new_manufacturer_for_next_gen_iphone.html

Maybe for a separate model iPhone? Maybe a Verizon iPhone??

Well Steve Jobs did say that the next iPhone is A+ update especially dealing with the Android competition and the iPhone OS appears to be jumping to 4.0 maybe late June / July...

The Nexus One is an HTC handset, it's just made for Google to sell and brand.

While technically you're correct that there are no exclusively "Google" branded phones on Verizon, the Droid and Eris are Android phones, and Android means Google for the most part. For many, there's no distinction.

Other Android phones are marketed as Such-&-Such-With-Google as well.

Also, don't forget the Nexus One is "coming soon" or "this Spring" to both Verizon and Sprint. Spring starts in March, correct? There have been blogs posting of news that hints Sprint's getting the Nexus One as early as March.

http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/10782.htmlA+ in the sense that Apple may introduce something new to the iPhone, like a better battery, much accurate GPS, an extra camera, a higher res camera, faster system bus (100MHz doesn't cut it anymore), more storage. There are a myriad of things you can do to make it A+ without Verizon

Comments are in bold.

Why not? They are a reputable news organization like the WSJ.

You must be joking right?

I was a day 1 iPhone buyer and have yet to upgrade. Why? Because ATT has so massively failed on their 3G roll out, that a large city of 50,000+ have yet to get the service. The 'estimate' it will be here 2011. Verizon had 3G service here since 2006 or so.

I responded like because third parties have manufactured phones using Android os which has no bearing on Google "copying all of Apples moves" as peace put it.

There's no rule that you have to disclose those sorts of things. There are rules that you can't disclose things that would materially deceive, and that you can't selectively reveal things to some people and not others.

You must be joking right?

Fox news is ok at reporting stuff as long as it is not political.

Throw politics in the mix and fox news is pretty bad but it is not like CNN or the BBC are that much better.

If it is just basic fact reporting they are all about the same. It when they start twisting the truth is why the mass media today is crap across the board.

I think that it makes good business sense for Apple to get on board with Verizon...I don't think waiting for LTE is feasible...it will be several years before it covers everyone....probably a decade before 3g CDMA goes totally offline....

I think it's just a matter of time before it happens...and I don't think waiting a decade for CDMA to go offline is something Apple wants to do. They cannot stick to just ONE carrier in their biggest market if they hope for significant growth, especially ignoring the #1 carrier.

We shall see....

Who cares?

I'm not getting an iPad with a 3G built-in. Why? Its stupid. Why limit yourself. What if 4G comes next year? What if something new comes out? Get yourself a mi-fi and then you can use it with the iPad, with your iPod touch, and your laptop.

I kept hearing that it was because of Verizon's demands to remove features or limit features of the iPhone and in the end Apple walked.

Having experience with a Motorola phone being crippled on the Verizon network when the exact same phone had more features on competitors systems made me a believer.

What good would an iphone be if some of the inherent features weren't available because Verizon wouldn't allow them?

From what I remember, it was that the phone wouldn't connect to a Palm 5xx for using the contact list. Something that would seem to be simple and non-troublemaking and Verizon said 'No!'.

I'd walk too but they were the greatest at the time... If you didn't play with Verizon, you didn't sell phones...
