When you have a faulty electrical component that even *might* cause a fire or injury (electricity can be dangerous you know), then that is a serious problem. The kind where gub'mint could get involved.
Now you’re just being ridiculous. Your dreams of Apple being crushed by the gov won’t happen. Sorry.

Driving has potential for injury, so you must not drive. Walking along roads also has injury potential. How do you get to work then?

I'm just spit-balling here... but, what component could the Note 7 and iPhone 8 have from a common manufacturer?

Perhaps the battery?

Considering the following:

iPhone 8 Plus battery: 2,675mAh
iPhone 7 Plus battery: 2,900mAh

My guess is, it's not due to it being a huge battery like what was in the Galaxy Note 7. Not sure what the cause might be?

No, not desperate. Intelligent, yes. Equating to a phone where many burst into flames says something.

I was NOT taking a poke at Apple- just offering counterpoint to the post that guy made about the desperation of other poster's messages. If one side is "not desperate" but intelligent, so should the other be too. Who are you- or I- to judge the intelligence of one poster's view vs. another? (rhetorical)

Might only be 5 publicly known cases, the 8 is young, but as a owner of a Macbook Pro battery that expanded after 2 years, I would be nervous that this is something that manifests over time.

If you want to equate the two phones, where Samsung’s had many bursting into flames endangering the lives of people and property in the process, with Apple’s where a few have expanded pushing the display out, feel free.

Many, understanding the difference, will choose to not equate the two issues.

Same as the 7. In any batch of a million phones, there's going to be some problems. If the problem here was battery, the popping open is a safety feature.

Luckily apple took security measures and prevents wireless charging from the moment the phone vibrates when a message was received.

So your phone will less likely blow up during your sleep.

On the other hand, the battery under 11 discharges so quickly, only sysiphus would keep on charging.

This is simply inexcusable.

Don't Apple rigorously test their massively expensive products before releasing them?

There is zero quality control these days which is precisely the reason the Note 7 debacle took place last year.

Apple does use Samsung components in their phones, the processors for example are one of them. But Apple does not use Samsung's batteries or vice versa.

A small but increasing number...
Well it was 2 and is now 5 - so I can't argue with MacRumors statement on a factual basis.

However, I suspect that this second repeat of this story in three days on the Front Page of MacRumors has far more to do with click revenue than it does with journalistic integrity.

Let's see how far they'll milk it.

reports say that they're using batteries from samsung in a certain proportion of their new iPhones. I wonder if the iPhone x, which I'm gonna buy, will face the same problem. **** YOU SAMSUNG! **** YOU! FOR ****'S SAKE!

Apple isnt the company i used to know to many problems with products now days
Apple has had bulging battery issues for decades. Everybody has them sometimes.
I remember this problem on my MacBook Pro over a decade ago. Difference being the battery was removable so didn't damage the computer. It caused the computer not to sit flat and the battery latches to be difficult to operate.

Usually requires a redesign of the battery to cure it. All future phones would have the new design and existing would be replaced case by case.

I honestly think people are doing this purposely for attention. Don’t think there’s any real issue at hand.

The cause is they used cheap batteries to maintain high margins
