UPS arrived at 8:22AM EST to deliver my first iPad and after a few hours of playing around I could not be more impressed with this device. It is fast, responsive, gorgeously thin and light, and is so much easier to use than my netbooks. I can only imagine what the next revisions will bring.

To each his own, but for what I need both personal and professional, the iPad handily beats any netbook alternative (and I've tested several).

Happy iPad Release Day!

BTW: Keynote and Numbers for the iPad lack powerpoint and excel export.

So if you only have an iPad and a PC there is no way that you can view the docs on your PC. Hello Apple, WTF?

Lol...The fanbois are gonna lynch you now.:D
You are right, of course. This thing is just a toy moneymaker for apple, which was designed to force people to buy even more content from their store and increase their monopoly.
Can you imagine the apoplexy about these tactics if Gates had done it?
Can we spell hypocrisy, kids?
don't tell them that!! :D their contributions to help apple stock is going to pay for my home renovations.

I don't own one and may sit this one out but you're wrong. Quite easy to get your content on it without buying from Apple.
not for the 'it just works' crowd who'll keep pouring $$ into itunes store.

btw, just came back from playing with one, i'm also sitting it out. wait until the next one.

At BestBuy Playing with the iPad

I am here at the BB playing with the iPad for like 2hrs.... I quinched my thirst now.. so I can comfortably wait for the 3G version :)

My thoughts:

Its an amazing device! I think it is going to be a true gaming and entertainment machine. No more need for the portable DVDs, probably can through your DS, PSP and others in the garbage....

Really couldn't be any happier with it. It will be a great tool for preaching with!

I arrived at Best Buy around 8:15 this morning and was 5th in line. With a flood in Kentucky causing some brief shipping delays, I was able to buy the iPad at noon.

I played around with a floor model before. It's real nice. This is going to be fun.

Congrats :)

Yeah, because version 2 won't require iTunes.

iPad = iTunes vending machine.

Enjoy continually plopping quarters into your iPad so you can actually use the damn thing to accomplish something.

while this could be true, it really is up to the user on how they wish to consume content.

i spent hours this morning downloading over a dozen FREE apps to the iPad and even watched 2 TV shows on the FREE ABC app as well as the FREE netflix app (does require netflix subscription of course).

sure, there are options to BUY apps, books, movies, music, TV shows, etc - but the choice is up to the user.

And your Acura is just a car( if you actually own one), thanks for your opinion. I just got the last 64G at a local reseller, I felt like the shark in Finding Nemo after reading the posts here.

I can see that preacher. I'm waiting for the 3G version and will use it to lecture in my classes ( some of my rooms are not in wifi range.) Add on the mobile me app and my video files plus the fact that all my textbooks have e versions and this will reduce the weight of my bag by 15 lbs. I'm only hoping one of the premier grade book programs makes it way to app soon.... Then this will be amazing for me.

Loving it, except that its a tiny bit heavier than I thought it will be. MBA feels lighter than this thing..

Overall, highly satisfied.

Mine came an hour ago.

UPS delivered mine at 11:30am MST.

Initial impressions:

Elegant packaging as you'd expect from Apple.

Solid, well built unit. Heftier than I expected.

Predictable iTunes setup worked flawlessly.

Screen was slightly small than I was expecting with more bevel area but I suppose this is need to adequately hold the unit.

Satisfied.

Can someone say how the speakers perform in comparison with MacBook Air ? I would expect better sound, just from comparison of physical dimensions.

I've got a Rev A MacBook Air. Speakers on the iPad are significantly louder than the MBA. It's really cool, sound seems to come from the whole screen because of the empty space in the aluminum case. You can even cover the speaker holes and still hear it, unlike the iPhone.

bluetooth GPS

has anyone tried to pair with a bluetooth GPS receiver?

my first impression is it's going to exceed expectations. but i'm having a few problems sorting out the initial syncing: first, i had duplicate entries in iCal; fixed that by un-checking the mobile me calendar (it was apparently copying entries from both my computer desktop AND mobile me) although it seems to me mobile me's the vehicle for syncing.

anyway, i've still got duplicate entries for all my 700+ contacts and can't figure out how to eliminate those dupes (I tried re-syncing). Any suggestions?

I was extremely impressed by the efficiency at the apple store. I was assigned a personal "guide" who never seemed rushed. We stopped for me to pick up a few accessories, then he turned me over to a genius who in minutes had my contacts & etc. working. (Maybe there's a clue: he got them onboard via mobile me; when i synced at home from my computer--in order to load the iPad apps i'd bought onto the iPad--perhaps that's when the dupes occurred. But how to undo that?

I think everyone's gonna be real happy. (I've got a 3G 64GB on order; had to get this 16GB wi-fi to get the experience immediately)

Hater's need to leave.

I am testing Keynote right now to prepare a presentation for a major NBA team on Tuesday. Cost me $9.99 one time only fee and it's working great.

So I am accomplishing something, and I can do this over and over again, without any added fees. This is just one example.

I can use my $9 a month Netflix accounts to stream video into my iPad which I can easily connect to my TV -- No more hauling the fragile laptop to the basement.

very good point - here's one example.

i, as a medical professional, will be using an iPad in the outpatient clinic setting primarily for patient education with both web and photo material for various common illnesses and such - including pill identification and reviewing $4 med lists, etc. laptops, other tablets, and netbooks currently are not as easy to lug around the office and also are not as easy to review with a patient - especially the on-screen navigation with mouse, pointer, tablet pen, etc - unlike the multi-touch on the iPad.

i think that the other major lifestyle changes you will see will be primarily centered around media consumption (news, books, email, finances, social media like twitter, facebook, etc) and gaming or entertainment. size, portability with 3G, and ease of use are probably what you will hear argued as the iPad's major assets compared to current technology.

would love to hear other's plans for their ipads...

The iPad must be connected to iTunes in order to set it up.

A real drawback! Two friends of mine (who would like to enter in the computer world, better late than never ;)) would have bought an iPad if it had worked without the need of another computer.

That would have been one of the more important differences to iPhone and iPod.
