So how will you be ordering your new MacBook Pro tomorrow? Some people have talked about theme music, and I'm not sure what has been suggested so far, but only one song seems appropriate, "Into the West," the song that plays during the credits of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Just like Frodo, let us throw our old PCs into the fire of Mount Doom. Just like Aragorn, let the MBP return to its rightful place of power as King of the laptops. Like Hobbiton when the Hobbits return, let there be great rejoicing through this forum and all the mac forums through this planet. Like Gandalf, let the MBP return from being seemingly dead, only to lead us with greater strength and power. Let us realize, that like Iluvatar guided and directed the history of Middle Earth for its own good, so also Steve Jobs has been guiding us and directing us to this Tuesday for reasons unbeknownst to us, and yet for our good.

I say, when your order your MBP this Tuesday, let 'Into the West' play, and know that one great journey is over, but like Frodo and Gandalf, another great, unknown journey lies ahead.

That has got to be the geekiest thing I've read on this board. I was going to give you a 'newbie' slam, but you have a decent list of Apple equipment. We're talking about a COMPUTER at the end of the day :)

(would you remove that post for all our sakes, think about some Windows fanboys quoting that across the net man)

Gosh, I so hope it's the MBP with the 17" LED and multi-touch -- I will buy this the second it's announced.

Will the 17" be 2.8 GHz, or just 2.6GHz with the 2.8 as a built-to-order option? Keeping my fingers crossed it'll be 2.8 GHz and tomorrow will be the day... we've been waiting long enough, and my 2.16 GHz is starting to look very old.

I don't think I can take another disappointment. I need to get a new mbp, so I am ordering one tomorrow new or not. I hope new!

I enjoyed typing it. If others think it is annoying, I can delete it, but I'm not sure how. I doubt, however, that anyone who has been waiting for a long time like I have, and has been checking sites like this almost every day, would seriously question the use of "great journey" as a metaphor to describe our emotions. I may be just a computer, but my life revolves around my computer. All day long, almost every day. Oh, and I love LotR almost as much as I love Apple.

FWIW, none of the 6 Best Buys within like 40 miles of my house have any 15" 2.4ghz MBPs. Only 1, the furthest away from me, stocks the 2.2ghz model. Been like that for a few days. I doubt they would be out of stock in-store for long, right? Hopefully they finally get updated tomorrow..

Apple can definitely deliver a better MBP in every way by now and if you don't believe that then you're a moron.

Should you think it's a good idea to use straw man arguments, then you're the moron. I am myself waiting for Apple to give the MBPs (at least) better processors and graphics. Maybe they can also make it slightly thinner and lighter. However, what you seem to be wanting is an MBP that's as slim and lightweight as the MBA. Tough luck for you that this isn't going to happen any time soon, for technical reasons as well as business reasons. Hopefully you will find a way of coping with your disappointment other than insulting people on Internet forums.

I vote for freedom of speach!

Here's to being optimistic (again)!

I've never anticipated a new computer this much. Let's hope those new MBPs are coming soon, if not tomorrow (yeah, yeah, I know).

My overworked, faithful 4 yr. old PB, as miraculous a machine it truly has been (still is to some degree), is lacking the minimum hardware specs now needed to upgrade it's current software. I could also use that Boot Camp capability, too. :p

I'm really, REALLY hoping to be able to order those software upgrades soon, not to mention a brand new spankin' MBP to use them with. I've got the funds ready for some time now. Soooo... OK, Apple, everybody's been waiting so long already. Roll 'em out! :D

argh nightmare, ordered a macbook pro last friday, heard the update rumours saturday been trying to cancel my order ever since now the product is "ready to ship" the bastards really want me to have this thing.

now i have to pay £60 return fee when it arrives. whatever happens tomorrow i am going to be sick.
aye lesson learned check the apple rumours buyers guide before buying kids!!!

I don't know if deanfitz's order was BTO, but if it is then that's why he can't cancel it either.

Guess what? Apple isn't in the "noble courtesy" business. They're in the same business as every other public company - the money-making business. And they've obviously made the decision that they make more money by not cutting prices on old hardware, even if it generates ill-will among some particularly knowledgeable consumers like yourself.

Unfortunately, you're right. Apple no longer lowers the prices of its old tech. And on that note, I don't think I ever recall this much bitching for new products as in recent times.

If you don't like it, then vote with your wallet, because that's the only kind of vote that a public company gives a darn about. Frankly, your real beef is not with apple, but with the consumers who are willing to pay $600-800 for the current mini. The general mac-buying public apparently has no problem paying today's prices for last year's technology, and as long as that's the case, don't expect either more rapid updates or mid-cycle price drops from Apple. Angry rants on message boards mean exactly zilch to Apple.

I am "voting with my wallet" by not purchasing a high-priced Mac until they have a hardware selection that fits me. (I need more than an iMac, but less than a MacPro.) Instead I will buy a Mini (upon update) that will get me by for a couple years, and if by that time Apple hasn't released a computer for advanced non-professionals, I will build a Hackintosh (there are now methods of installing from a retail copy and Apple's EULA is very vauge, stating OS X must be installed on an "Apple labled" PC, which some users have remedied by afixing an Apple sticker on their units). It'll be more work for me to maintain, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make in order to use the hardware I need.

I'm sorry, I thought the point of a publicly traded company was to make MORE money instead of less. What the hell does how much cash they have in the bank matter?

It shows greed. I can think of one greedy company that Apple is resembling more and more every day... It starts with "M" and ends in "icrosoft." Making money is one thing, wringing customers for their every last penny is another. Sure Apple is popular right now, but sooner or later, people will begin to see that Apple is just ripping their customers off. Unfortunately, unlike Microsoft, there isn't a viable alternative.

You really hold a grudge against everything apple. Please do us all a favor, go buy a VAIO and leave us alone.

I hold a grudge against Apple? Based on what? The fact that I'm not afraid to call Apple out for taking advantage of its own customers? Because by doing so, I might just actually be raising awareness amongst other users out there? And to what end? Smart users means Apple can't rip us off, subsequently meaning we get a better product, no?

What are you doing to help by blindly sticking up for old, overpriced hardware?

Did Steve Jobs rape your family...?

Since when is rape a joke again? Mods? Anyone? I must've missed its transition from traumatizing to hilarious.

I'm in the same boat with the 4 year old Powerbook. I have never had any problems with it at all and am emotionally attached to it, so much so that I will never get rid of it even after I order my new MBP, hopefully tomorrow...please please please

I see that apple is purging itself of current generation refurbished iMacs at an aggressive discount. I would think that there could be a update coming soon. Any ideas out there? It would be cool to have a quad-core option and a better video chip option.:apple:

You know, I was thinking the same thing. All this attention on the MBP and it may be that we see new iMacs tomorrow or both. I've never seen the "Limited Time" before in the refurb section, seems a little odd.
