You are brave to do post 666. I hope your new mbp is not possessed or anything:eek:

You mean it might be running Vista? :D

How's it possible that ALL their batteries die? Not to talk about the ones exploding.

A recent survey has shown that Apple hardware fails no more often than that of most other manufacturers. You say you had 7 Macs fail on you - that sure is bad, but a lot of Wintels have failed me as well, in one cases an Athlon XP overheated and literally crumbled to ashes. Had several HDD failures on multiple PCs, and one PC tower had a faulty port that fried two of my USB devices, one of which was an expensive high capacity thumb drive. But the sentence I quoted is the most revealing. First of all, all batteries eventually die. I contrast your suggestion that Apple's batteries die sooner than those of other manufacturers by pointing out that I had exactly one laptop battery fail completely (i.e. supporting only a few minutes cordless operation) and that was on a Dell that was almost constantly connected to A/C. Not that I'm really surprised - this Dell seems to think it's a good idea to constantly charge batteries even if they are full (it only switches to pulse charge). My PowerBook only charges the battery if it's dropped below 95%. The battery of my PowerBook which has seen about 300 cycles is still at over 80% of the original maximum capacity. The explosive batteries you are referring to have plagued almost every major notebook manufacturer, and Sony, the battery manufacturer, was the main culprit. Did you forget that or why aren't you mentioning it?

The best joke is that for some reason you think Mac OS X was slow, so you are considering switching to what, Vista? Tiger is running faster on my PowerBook than Vista is running on the brand new Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz Dell notebooks some of my coworkers have received last week. Not to mention the miserable reliability. One of my coworkers has now reinstalled Vista two times in four days, USB storage device removal works like Russian roulette, and of course his pre-installed Vista crashed on day one. I'm not a fan of XPSP2, but now that I've seen Vista, I suddenly feel a deep appreciation for this rather annoying and user unfriendly, yet (if used properly) rock solid and time tested OS. :p

No offense, but I call bs...
Yep, you figured me out, I'm making all of this up about a 2gb shuffle to impress everyone here!:D

Here's a picture of the acual unit and I'm happy to take a picture of the case when I get home.

Note the serial number on pick 3. I'm doing this because I'm a n00b and need to prove myself.

Actually I thought that was quite funny. Why don't you go get a sense of humor instead.

Obviously it hasn't happened to you or a loved one, then.

"Why don't you go get a sense of humor?" I fail to see what's humorous about someone being taken advantage of, nonconsentually, sexually. Do you care to explain that one to me, since, obviously, I'm lacking in the humor department.

I'm afraid I haven't waded through all 28 pages of this thread, the long, long wait got to me and after nearly five months of scouring rumour sites looking for a crumb of hope I sort of gave in a week or two ago and am planning to buy a Mac Pro instead, so sorry if this has already been discussed, BUT if this from Appleinsider is correct:

"AppleInsider has been able to confirm that three new Apple-formatted part numbers -- MB402LL/A (Good), MB403LL/A (Better), and MB404LL/A (Best) -- have turned up in inventory management systems of both Apple and its channel resellers such as Best Buy"

I'm interested in the 'A' at the end of the serial numbers. Does that indicate revision A? First of a new type? Would the Penryns alone merit an 'A' or are we talking a case design?

Ah, I just can't give it up.

I think the /A is the "revision". January-update iPod Touches got a /B at the end (versus /A for Touches previous to them), as did the recently-updated Macbooks.

Sorry, but all that proves is you've bought a purple shuffle... You can't even read the serial number on it, those pics in no way prove you bought a 2GB shuffle.

Look buddy, I'm not trying to piss you off or personally offend you and I apologize if I have. Clearly what you find funny and what I find funny are different. All I'm trying to say is lighten up. People are going to say what they want, whether you or I like it or not. This isn't a rape awareness thread keep that in mind.

As horrible as this sounds (especially considering I've been waiting for an updated MBP for some time as well), I'm actually going to be quite amused if they don't appear tomorrow morning.

The absolute amount of fervor on this site over the last day or two has been ridiculous...even more so than the past several Tuesdays promising an imminent release.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is still just a laptop that we're going to have to drop $2K+ on in order to get into our speculating little hands, right?

Oh well...I guess I can't be disappointed either way with this stance...;)

I don't know what all the /A business is about. The current MBP models have the /A, but only the 17" does for the mid-2007 models.

Ah! So more chance of some major changes then perhaps?

And perhaps we can stop tormenting the Purple Shuffle guy and the bad taste joke guy, here at least, and stay on thread?

I'll post pics of the box when I get home from work. Not that it matters, but there's satisfaction in proving others wrong.

Correct.

I can't pull up that serial number on the Apple website. I sure would like to see the box on that. Quite the interesting find if that's the case, seeing as you can't even order them off the Apple website yet...

Well, in the 4H808 part, the 8 (after the H) means 2008, and the 08 after it means week 8, so that means it must've been manufactured sometime between the 17th-23rd.

Hmm interesting. Nothing really got updated (beyond the superficial BTO update) on the Late '07 MBPs, not sure why the /A then. Maybe to put all the MBPs in line with each other, model-number-wise?

That's exactly what I though. Does anyone know what the /A means? I think its an interesting point.

When you try to search by serial number on Apple's website you get nada, but when you search by serial number for warranty status you can see it was purchased on the 22nd, coinciding with what you say. If foulmouthedleon did get a 2 gig shuffle early that's pretty darn cool (and worthy of proof IMHO). :)

I'll be happy to post it tonight.

And that guy's right, we're arguing about a 2gb shuffle! LOL. Guess it's a slow Monday...

No need to be snide. I have been open to you proving you got one. I think it is cool that you might have gotten a product before the rest of the world can order it. That doesn't make it a slow Monday. This is a rumor site after all, and I think being able to go to a specific store and get a product early is worthy of the site. Its also worthy of proof. There are newbies here all the time claiming they've got something unique that hasn't been released or claiming to have special connections. Asking you to prove it is fair game. All in good spirit chum, all in good spirit. Let's not get too riled up. :)

Gosh, I so hope it's the MBP with the 17" LED and multi-touch -- I will buy this the second it's announced.

Will the 17" be 2.8 GHz, or just 2.6GHz with the 2.8 as a built-to-order option? Keeping my fingers crossed it'll be 2.8 GHz and tomorrow will be the day... we've been waiting long enough, and my 2.16 GHz is starting to look very old.
Not sure why .2ghz makes such a huge difference. Your 2.16 is getting old? If it makes that big of a difference, why not get a mac pro and do all of your processing at home, use your laptop as a satellite? I realize that it is your money and you can do what you want with it. Perhaps though you might have a better workflow with 2 systems.

I hope theirs a case redesign that blows our minds. lol
Like easy to remove hard drive? That would blow my mind.

I never have any luck with Apple computers.

Anybody want to buy a barely used, perfect condition, 2.2 C2D Glossy MBP, 160 GB Hard drive...?
Wait till tuesday, if you really see a huge difference, ebay it and pay the difference. Chances are good that it wont make a big enough difference. The only time I can think of a pro laptop difference was the G4-Intel transition and that is only because there was no G5 laptop.

LoL, I love that you did this. I would rest in my own self satisfaction, but this is funny.

Which is why I think it refers to the screen which got updated in the summer while the 17" didn't.
