I very strongly believe that Tiger will be out in time for NAB (Apr16-20).
Z

all the indicators are pointing to tiger for nab. i went with tiger on the 16th, dual 3ghz PM's on the 19th. nab was the most logical time for tiger to be released, for all the new pro video app upgrades. just over 2 weeks until the front page of apple.com shows "tiger available in xx days

Even if this is true, I think I'm going to wait until June to install it, which is when I thought Tiger would ship. From what I've read, Tiger is still buggy, and I don't believe that it'll be ready for prime time this soon.

I agree. I've just ordered a new PowerBook G4 and won't be installing Tiger on it until at least 10.4.2, giving Apple a chance to iron out the initial bugs.

On a side note, Apple could have always stopped seeding its internal builds to developers, and actually be working with much more advanced inside builds of the product that we think. I'll be watching the Apple.com homepage today around 9am EST for a Tiger countdown clock appearing. After all, today is the Tuesday, one month before the suggested release date.

Friday 15th would tie in with 'Night of the Tiger' promotions too.

Well, the way I see it, Apple's current internal builds are probably a lot better than the last seed (Feb27/28)... I'm expecting Apple to release a build for seeding pretty soon.

Another thought - what if Apple is playing with us by decreasing the seeds so we'll dismiss the April first thing as a bad rumor? I know, probably not, but it's a possibility.

If anything apple will ramp up seeding if a final release is on its way.

well... that's great and all... but could some one help me on this?

bought panther last week (forced to)... would i be eligible for a free upgrade if tiger does come out on april 1st?

thanks in advance

Sod that! I've been running X since early Jaguar, when I first bought a modern mac & I went with Panther as soon as I legally could.

I've had no issues worth whining about with any of the point updates for either system.

If Apple says it's good enough, then it's good enough for me! Any minor issues, I can deal with. I only wish there was a legit way of running a beta without shelling out for full ADC membership.

If you're not living on the edge, then you're taking up too much space!

No, Apple only does up-to-dates after it has OFFICIALLY announced a product. It hasn't - as this is still just a rumour.

The scenario you give is a real possibility, but it's possible for Apple to announce the dates at NAB with the relase a couple of weeks after.

And one thing to add to what you've said, the high end has a real chance of being a dual core-dual proc 3GHz PowerMac. This would be an ideal system to announce at a place like NAB.

Purely out of interest, are there illegal beta copies out there for mere mortals like us to get hold of?

oh no!!!

I just received my first mac ever (12" pb) yesterday. Can I get a free upgrade? It's not fair!!

Well this shows just more and more that Tiger is comming VERY soon :D
Well the sooner the better ;)

Hoping for updated iMac's and PowerMac's ;)

Part of me is excited for this release, and part of me is a litte apprehensive considering they had a fairly long list of bugs yet to fix only a couple of weeks ago.

I may go to the release event and get some goodies on sale, but not necessarily the OS itself. :D

What is the latest Beta build? 8A393?
Only a couple of weeks to go... so maybe this could be called the GM already?

8A393 was waaaay to buggy to be GM. I suspect we'll see another seed or two before GM....

Nah ...

All this is just phum and phooey.

Apple will release hardware updates of the iMac and Powermac under the cover of darkness in April ... causing many to run screaming to the shops to purchase .... and then have an entirely Software driven WWDC where they explore all the brilliant things you can now do on your new Mac (once you fork out even more money for the Tiger upgrade).

Same here. I didn't upgrade to Panther until 10.3.5. I think I was a little TOO cautious. I'll upgrade to Tiger when it reaches 10.4.4 :D

hehe

Eye Of The Tiger
Survivor

Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds, till we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger

Risin' up, straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger

The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
