More Speculation for Tomorrow: Beatles on iTunes

You guys are forgetting that this is a one day announcement with no special event associated with it. This isn't a product launch or a preview event. This is akin to Dell, HP, Asus, etc...posting their 1 day or 1 week laptop launch pages claiming "laptops will change forever" or "power beyond what you can grasp" or "a revolution is near". And in the end, all they have is updated laptop specs.

Apple's tease is around the same magnitude, but I would argue a Beatles iTunes release is more important than a spec bump.

A day that I will never forget? Magical and Revolutionary device?

Apple PR doesn't get out much.

Loving the humour in this thread, keep it up. I would say disappointing if that is all it turns out to be; I'll certainly be working to forget the day asap, as long as we're talking about making points.

It'll be disappointing, but it will make for a great forum read.

Cue the complainers!

Let's look at the facts

Ignoring the wild speculation for a minute, let's look at the facts:

  • There is no press conference or media event (that we know of).
  • It's early - 7AM Pacific time.

Ok, now that we're done with the facts, let's speculate.
No media event means it's not going to be a gigantic announcement. This means no new hardware, and sorry - no streaming.

Early - 7AM. Two things here - 1) they don't care what the tech community thinks of the announcement - the majority of the tech influencers live in California and won't even be awake yet.
2) However, they do want to make the most of the announcement from the general public by announcing early in the morning. Apple wants this to be the talk of 'normal people' by the end of the day.

As much as it bores me, and as much as I want the streaming or subscription rumours to be true, it's a Beatles announcement. Meh.

If this is what the big event is, then I lump Apple's PR with Greta van Sustrin

"Today on Thursday November 24th 2010 Breaking News on Natalie Holloway"

"Tomorrow's just another day" is a song by Madness! At last!! MADNESS ON ITUNES!!!

(if they already are, not letting that get in the way of the joke)

Actually after seeing the album cover, I think it's Beatles. The clocks don't make sense otherwise. And of course the clocks won't match the arms exactly.

But I still think this doesn't deserve a front page hype. It's Beatles. We have their CD's anyway, it's not like the music is getting released for the first time ever.

They are the biggest band ever! And while many enthusiasts have all their music, many other people don't or would only buy some songs. Having their entire collection, which I'm sure Apple will have a Buy Collection slightly reduced price tag just like they did for U2, is huge. As people have pointed out, after Michael Jackson died, his music took over the top 10s. The Beatles availability will do the same. It won't be sustained for that long, but it will generate massive sales. And it will do so without really making Apple much money.

People mistakenly think that the iTunes music, movie, tv shows and even App stores make Apple money. Even with massive sales, they barely break even. Their 30% cut makes them very little money at all after operating expenses compared with hardware sales. Less than 3 to 5% of their bottom line. It is simply a means to selling more hardware by continually advancing the consumer experience, the ecosystem of products, and the innovative edge of their hardware.

Unfortunately, you're correct.

why is this something we will never forget? i like the beatles but come on

Advertisers have absolutely no sense of scale or perspective... Ever.... Everything is always "Mega", "Ground Breaking" or "Not to be missed".
Nothing lives up to it's advertising hype anymore (if it ever did), which IMHO perversely de-values the product since the customer is inevitably left feeling slightly deflated...

Ok I'm just as much a Beatles fan as the next guy and I do realize that Apple is very full of themselves (who wouldn't be in their shoes?) but even a year from now I would not consider that a day I would never "forget". As mentioned earlier, any hardcore Beatles fan (or hell, even the passive fan) more than likely already have the entire collection in MP3 format and even in their iTunes playlists.

If it really ends up being the Beatles, I'll be somewhat disappointed. As to the suggestions in the image and title... I think a lot of people are really stretching for that one. :)

And for anyone trying to correlate the timezones as they relate to the Beatles image... sorry, it won't work that way. Timezones are set in hours, not minutes so the timezone theory is busted. :p

And I guess we know where John and George are, but has anybody seen Paul or Ringo around? Can't imagine they wouldn't want the chance to get a little publicity on the announcement...hell they're gonna make some (more) serious coin from something like this, and I can't see them doing it with a simple announcement on Apple's website and not a live photo op moment with Steve on stage...

How about this: Streaming is announced, and The Beatles songs are the first to get streaming... or something like that...

guess to make money from the bugs, you would have to wait till the biggest fan base is technology savvy, and alive enough. Beatles = 50 year old music, most of the fans are on pensions.

My guess is that they couldn't get Paul nor Ringo to make an appearance like they did for their special edition Guitar hero. Thus, Steve may have said no press conference if he couldn't get them.

Also, with it being late in the year, they may be waiting for an appearance at CES but still wanted to get this out in time for Christmas season.

I don't understand why this would be a big deal, at least from our perspective. Are there any Beatles fans out there that don't already have their entire collection?
There is a market for classic songs and old artists.

The week after Michael Jackson died, the top ten songs and top ten albums at the iTunes Store were all Michael Jackson's. Every single one.

Clearly, the mere presence of an artist at the iTunes Store will result in sales. A bit splashy announcement/event tends to drive additional sales.

In the case of Michael Jackson, it was very evident that not everyone who appreciated his work had all of the songs that they wanted.

There's a lot of people who'd be happy with Yellow Submarine on their iPod but would never buy a whole album

what if it was the BEATLES for 1p a track, you would not forget that, its not like they need the money, perhaps they have decided to give it away.

Of course, because Apple would advertise one band (a popular band admittedly) coming to iTunes as a day to remember for the rest of your life. Right.

Well, they WERE 'more popular than Jesus' for a while there. Also they sold more records than he did, although he still has the edge in books and knickknacks.

I hope for Apple's sake there's more to this than just the Beatle's or I'm not going to believe hype like this again. Any one that's a fan of the Beatle's already has all the CD's ripped into their iTunes collection. No one has been sitting around for the past 7 years waiting to buy their songs in iTunes.

Apple PR doesn't get out much.
The ad does not state tomorrow is another day you will never forget.

"Tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget."

The ad implies that you will never forget that tomorrow is just another day. Actually, quite the let down if you think about it.
