...and of course my "next day" analogy was simply a hyperbole. Anywhere within that first month is equally heartbreaking, IMO.

Agreed, this happened to me when I bought my FIRST Powerbook. I spent $3600 on a 667Mhz (Yes, that's Mhz) TiBook with a 48GB hard drive and an 16MB video card with VGA, only to have it replaced by an 800Mhz model with a 32MB Radeon card and DVI only 3 weeks later for hundreds of dollars less. It was THEN that I discovered Apple rumor sites...

Edit: It's ok x54, I love you anyways ;)

I can't remember if Apple usually have a song on their Keynotes. I don't remember one so I wondered if they were short a product and had drafted in Randy to stop a gap.
This idea lent weight to the concept of the MBP being delayed waiting for the Penryn chips.

Haha, ouch. I know though, I love people's ignorance. "Just buy it now. It's a great buy and you'll love it." If I wanted BS marketing I'd go to Best Buy and ask them about their "great value" machine. If I needed it now, well, no duh I'd buy it.

Some people may laugh at those who wait for updates, but I will always laugh harder at those who don't have the patience or self control to wait for the upgrade that's imminent and complain later.

They always have songs at the keynotes. John Mayer last year wasn't it?

regarding the upgrade of MBP, it's inevitable that it'll get a processor upgrade but what is the likeliness of the RAM capabilities being upgraded as well...maybe from say 4 GB limit to 8GB limit?

Yeah I was one of those that was credit card ready for the MBO yesterday, and if the air didnt have the multitouch trackpad, i probably would buy one, but knowing an updates right around the corner ill wait awhile.

Well, I have been waiting since before Christmas to get a MacBook, and while I really love the MacBook Air, it is not for me.

I think it is quite likely that we will see MacBook/Pro updates in the next month, so I will wait till February to order. Steve did not announce them yesterday because he does not want the focus to be taken away form the Air, and there is also the possibility that they are simply not ready yet. And if the Mac Pro can be updated a week before Macworld, would it be so unusual for the MacBooks to get updated a week after? Another benefit for Apple in doing this would be more free publicity.

I hope that the 13.3" MacBook will get an aluminum case, an LED backlit screen and a multi-touch trackpad. Other than those things, the current MacBook is just about perfect for my needs.

If you buy it end of Jan, and something else comes out, you have 28 days to return it. So take it back and get the new one. Statuatory rights rock.

28 days? as far as I know the Apple Retail Store have a 14 day return policy. And if you open it up there is a nce restocking fee to go along with it as well, something in the area of 10% I think.

New Products at PMA 08

Their is a conference at the end of the month called PMA 08. Apple is one of the exibitors and in the past have released revisions to their Pro products at this event.

Plus, I dont think Intel has offically released the mobile version of the Penryn, I thought it was Jan. 20th.

Either way Im in the same boat as a lot of you, I have been waiting for a MBP update and thought one would come yesterday. I am holding out until at least the begining of Feb to see what happens at this event.

My guess for the new Macbook Pros is as follows...multi-touch trackpad, Penryn, and magnetic lid (no more latch) and the keyboard of the macbook.

Could be possibly see new ACD's at this event?

Yeah we just might see new ACD's. Im going to try to look on the web and see the different products and revisions Apple as announced at this event.

Keep us posted I'm excited. :)

I see they introduced Apeture at this event, and I believe in '06 their was speed bump in the MBP's. Anything is possible though.

It can really be at anytime though, if you all remember back when Apple released the Macbook, it was just an ordinary Tuesday morning, because he went through all the changes when he introduced the 1st gen MBP.

Now Apple has released the MacBook Air and he introduced the multi touch trackpad and thats about it for new. The rest of his presentation was just about the custom C2D and how slim it is.

All of the changes that will be made on the Macbook Pro's is nothing we havent seen before, so don't expect a special event to usher them in.

The current chipset is what's holding this back. When the new Montevina chipset comes to the MBP we may see an increase in the RAM capacity....would be good to have a MBP with 8GB RAM :D

i'm in the same boat as a lot of you guys... i've been wanting to get a 17" macbook pro for a while now since my crappy old 2004 dell inspiron (which i got in senior year of high school) is pretty much done, but figured i should wait until after macworld when i thought they would announce new pennryn processors, and maybe even a blu-ray drive. since that obviously hasn't happened, should i just say to hell with it and buy one? i'll be doing a lot of music editing but not too much with video, i think. will the new processors make a huge difference or not?

for something so trivial, this question is really eating me up inside. i don't want to spend $2500 only to find out that a brand new model has come out as soon as i open the packaging.

well it's save to say that it's pretty close to updates,if you look at the buyers guide, and the new chips have already be announced as well so it's just a matter of when those production processes come along

my guess for a MBP speed bump is february since the don't want to have them released to close to each other to steal the thunder...

and as always with technology: if you can wait... then by all means do so...

I can't really see Apple releasing updates now. They would have said something at MWSF. They'll probably wait for the buzz of the MacBook Air to calm down and then release something.

So what's next for the MacBook Pro?
Well here's what I want/think we'll see.
A new keyboard. Both the MacBook and MacBook Air sport Apple's new keyboard design, expect it on the MacBook Pro soon.
New Penryn processor. Give it the boost to seperate it even more from the MacBook.
15" HD screen. With Apple offering these HD movies, expect HD screens in the higher end products, then later in the lower end products.

The new Apple Cinema Display's will also sport HD screens.

Just my thoughts. :)

Does anyone actually read the thread before posting? The producer of the event posted that Apple is introducing NOTHING at the event. It was all rumor.

Hi all

I'm a video pro, and this topic was raised on creativecow. The organiser of the event replied:

"Just to set the record straight, there is no truth to the rumor that Apple will use the SuperMeet for a product announcement. I'm one of the producers of this event.

Those that know me know I use the phrase 'Super Secret" all the time. Have for years. It's a take off on "super meet." I use it when I honestly dont know what the presenter is presenting. And in this case I honestly don't know what Apple is presenting. Whatever it is, it wont be a new product. SuperMeets are about teaching us something. The FCP team always uses these SuperMeets for that purpose. Not for product announcements."

No new Products. Move along. Nothing to see here.

See the thread here:

Hope that clears everything up. Why would Apple announce anything pro video related now? NAB is in April.

Ben

What's to say that guy is really a producer and not just some jumped up twit? There's no mention of this guy "Michael Horton" guy.

This Michael Horton states in his post "...And in this case I honestly don't know what Apple is presenting..." So he obviously has NO AUTHORITY to even state that Apple will definately not be announcing anything. Even Apple staff don't know what's round the corner.

All I'm saying is no-one will know exactly what's going to happen at any stage, so let's all live in hope :)

I guess the Final Cut thing is over in 20 minutes...

The Final Cut Pro User Group Meeting doesn't start til 7PM so how can it be over :p
