I wonder if the Touch is going to his case design. One of the things that I don't like about my Touch 2G because of the beveled sides plugging in the sync cable can be a real pain at times, especially if you are trying to do it in the dark, or as in my case minus my glasses.:( I have a couple of docks but to use them I have to take the protective case off of my Touch.

the new touch could be even better and have an aluminum casing like the ipad.. but considering that leaked one with the camera i dont think its going to change.

I hope this is real. I planned on sticking with white, but a white front frame will be extra sweet.

If that render and the rumours are true about the next-gen iPhone then it really is gonna be the A+ upgrade they said it would be (or whatever grade they gave it, forget now).

I don't even plan on buying an iPhone but they've got me interested! Fricking Apple, just make ungainly crap will you! I've got a credit card to pay off!!! :p

Worst-kept Apple secret in recent memory?
In terms of efforts to keep it secret vs. results of these efforts, it's probably the worst-kept Apple secret ever. I mean, if the specs on a forthcoming MacBook speed bump happen to leak, it's maybe not the worst thing or the highest priority in the world, I don't think they tried very hard to keep a lid on that one. But with the new iPhone, they really really really really tried, and really really really really really really REALLY failed.

Not massively keen on the white front, but I won't make any final judgement until I've seen it in the flesh.

Trouble is, no one will get to see them in the flesh if pre-ordering is the method again this year. I would still like to see an all-aluminum/silver one ala the original iPhone for nostalgia. Actually the conceptual one looking like the iMac was also a good one. Wonder what you could do with a little paint!!!!

I think the black dots could very well be for a proximity sensor...do we really know the black leaked photos or prototype didn't have them? Black dots on white would obviously stand out...but black dots on black wouldn't so much...duh...lol

Not entirely impossible. It wouldn't be aluminum on the surface for obvious reasons, but they could do a silvery front, and the color on the ceramic back is embedded so they can probably do something silverish grey there.

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...on_radio_transparent_zirconia_ce_casings.html

"Other reasons for using ceramics cited in the filing are that they are highly scratch resistant, have color embedded in it (no paint or coatings), can be made into a wide variety of colors, and provide a variety of surface finishes including smooth and rough. Additionally, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company said the density of ceramics is typically higher than other materials, which would make for heavier electronics devices that feel more robust and exude greater quality."
"Apple added that zirconia casing can be applied to a handheld computing device, cell phone, or iPod digital music player, and could come in a variety of colors including white, black, navy blue, ivory, brown, dark blue, light blue, platinum, and gold. "The colors may for example be created by adding doping materials to the ceramic material," it wrote. "Other materials may also be added including Yttrium, which helps keep the crystalline structure intact across all temperatures especially for maintaining strength as the part cools down."

They said they think the little dots on the white face are proximity sensors but I don't see why they would need them...

Someone correct me if I am wrong but couldn't they just use the front facing camera as a proximity sensor of sorts?

Mr. Steve Jobs must be laughing his head off of all of these so-to-say spills... I am convinced the new iPhone design won't be like those "shells" Apple use for testing the new hardware and/or OS's.

I don't believe Apple's iPhone designs will go Sony-Ericson's way...

:apple: all the way!

As for the part above the headpiece which shows in these "parts" this may have another purpose that we dont know of yet unless these are dodgy parts, but they have the Apple cable branding. I agree, all previous iPhones have their sensors under the front panel of glass offset to the left of the earpiece.

As for the renderings, a white Next-gen iPhone will still carry the chrome / silver labelling for the Apple logo and the regulation approval logos and capacity, which exist on the current 3GS on the rear. This is done as it stands out and is basically free advertising to walkers by when on the phone. The aluminium between the back and front of the iPhone will of course be silver, not grey as shown in the render.

I still believe that since that "lost" iPhone via Gizmodo, and then the Vietnam one as well, these seems like a well-oiled leak machine created by Apple - like having a carrot available for a horse. Look at all the free PR they have got from this - and its cost them virtually nothing. What a better way to get product feedback on design, etc than a leak - make sense.

...Brown?

Worst-kept Apple secret in recent memory? Maybe the Gizmodo thing happened, and Apple just said eff-it, we'll use these leaks to stem Android sales until June?

They're just photos. And if you're buying on looks, there's no Android device that looks as good as any iPhone.

But if you buy on features, an HTC EVO 4G or HTC Incredible running Froyo should be slightly ahead of the iPhone 4. Significantly better hardware on the Android side for the first time (720p video camera, 4G radio, etc), though app quality and quantity still lags well behind.
