Any issues with regard to removing the film?

i tried to put it on my trackpad just to check it out and promptly removed the sticker because i preferred the feel on the plain aluminum surface. i couldn't detect any stickiness to the surface and i reapplied some parts of the main palmguard to get rid of some bubbles and the sticker seemed to be ok.

the palmguard is great and a wonderful investment. i prefer to type on the plain keys so i dont see myself getting the CG anytime soon. however, i did buy one of the tom bihn suede keyboard covers to cover the keys and provide me with some kind of handy cleaning cloth for wiping off the nasties when I have my laptop up and about. the bihn keyboard cover is nice and thick but it doesnt seem to impede the closure of the screen and the latch catches fine. i wish the price were better though because at 9 bucks a pop the rag is a bit pricey for what it is...

If you go to your optometrist often enough you can ask them for starter eyeglass cleaning kits. My optometrist gives me about 10 Crizal kits whenever I visit. It comes with the perfect cloth and cleaning solution that I toss out every other month. It's great for cleaning screens on your gadgets.

what is in crizal solution? i tried looking up the solution but found the lenses instead. the cleaning solution might be fine for eyeglass lenses which are coated with a scotchguard coating on it to prevent deep scuffs...the solution might react differently on matte LCD screens which do not have a protective coating such as those found on crizal lenses. alcohol in high enough concentration reacts adversely to LCD screens so i would like to know the contents first lest my screen starts turbing brown from the the solution over time.

Oh... whoops.. I forgot not all MBPs come with a glass screens. (This is my first MB).

I do use the solution and cloths to clean my Dell LCD monitors without any adverse effects. Spraying the solution onto the cloth so that is is just damp and wiping the screen will get rid of any nasties sticking to the matte surface of the LCD screens. Of course there is no problem using a very damp cloth to clean the surface of my glasses, iPhone, or MBP screen.

I'm not sure what's in the solution. It does not state any ingredients on the sample bottles. The solution has a sweet fragrance and something in it that evaporates at a lower temperature than water.

I was away for a few days, and when I came home, my Moshi palm guard was waiting for me.

What an AMAZING product! The color perfect to the macbook pro, and very hard to detect at a glance. I applied it in perfect position with little effort, and I couldn't be happier with it. This is by far worth the money to protect the aluminum from pitting. My old powerbook had that issue, and when I bought my first MacBook Pro, I picked up a Marware palm guard. I liked it a lot, but now that I have the Moshi on the new MacBook Pro, I can honestly say, this is leaps and bounds above the Marware.

Thanks to this thread, you guys convinced me to pick this up, and I am VERY thankful!

Know this might be an odd question, but how thin is the palmguard? I just got my MBP back from repair (the replaced my screen) and I can no longer close it. The hinge was tightened so much that it won't close when I have my current palmguard (Marware) on. After taking it off and trying to get it back on for about 30 minutes at the Apple Store, I just gave up. It could stand to be replaced, but I don't want to spend the money on a new one just to run into the same problem.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

PS I have an early/mid 2008 MBP

I had Marware on my old Mbp and I have to agree it's a problem when shutting the lid. With moshi, I'll find it to surprisingly thin and durable. I use moshi on my umbp and it has no problems. But their trackpad piece is utter crap, it reduces it finger gestures to non existence.

I would say moshi is about 1/3 the thickness of marware. Once u go moshi u won't go back.

Thank you for the info! Knowing that Marware gave others problems makes me feel a bit better (they didn't over-tighten the hinge like I originally thought). I'm gona need to find a local shop that carries the Moshi palmguards. If I can't find one, guess I'll just buy one on Amazon.

Anyone know of any retail stores that sell the Moshi palmguard?

Just installed mine last night. I love it. Also installed the trackpad protector. Love the texture on it.

For those who ended up installing their trackpad guard, how is it? Any accuracy/sensitivity issues?

I've said this again and again, the trackpad film is terrible, absolutely useless. It almost completely degrades the function of the trackpad itself. Try it yourself and you'll see. Half the time you can't tap the trackpad to click and other things. Any type of scrolling w/ the film on is ok, but any type of tapping is just plain lame.

do u even need to protect the trackpad? does it wear out easily?

The top layer of the trackpad is made from glass, so I doubt it'll wear out as quick as batteries. But it is an mechanic mechanism since it clicks. And there is a layer of paint on it, so that could obviously wear down after time. But I really wouldn't worry about it unless you're resting your fingers on it 24/7 and use it to play games lol.

i meant wear out as in the physical look, kind of how people have had problems with the new black keys on the unibody keyboard getting shiny and greasy looking. i dont have this problem on my current 17" mbp wth the silver keys and multi-touch (but normal sized) trackpad.

So wait... Personally, I never tap to click. Does this mean I won't really have any issues except texture with the trackpad cover?

I ended up ordering Isis Dei handplant for myself (shameless plug)

http://www.isisdei.com/list.php?class=handplant

I can't imagine how much better the alternatives would be. Blends perfectly with the body and the trackpad cover does not reduce sensitivity, although it seemed "sticky" initially.

I also ordered one of their keyboard Jimmies and they sent me the wrong one. I contacted customer service and they immediately shipped out the proper Jimmie, told me to keep the original one, and sent more trackguard film.
That's how business is done.

Also shipped fast to Chicago from Utah.

Hm... I am interested in this because it looks like there are local retailers in my area that sell their products. How thin is the palmguard? My problem (as posted above) is that I can't close my MBP because the Marware palmguard is too think. Again, I'd rather not spend the money on this if there is a chance I will run into the same problem as the Marware.

Let me rephrase: Does anyone know the relative thickness of the Hand-Plant?

(Sorry for double-post but I would really like to get an answer to my question and this topic got buried)

It's very thin, slightly thicker than a piece of paper I would guess, but very sturdy. It does not add any noticeable thickness in that area, so it would not interfere with closing.

My sentiments exactly... I LOVE the feel of the new trackpad, and I haven't seen any stain or signs of wear on it, so I think i'll leave it be..

EDIT: HOLY COW!!! My order left San Francisco on Friday, and it's already on the East Coast by this morning... I'm expecting it either later today or first thing Monday morning..

its glass so its not gonna wear

Way thinnen than the Marware. I have the Palmguard on right now - it's paper thin. My girlfriend has the Marware and it's much thicker.

+1 for the Moshi Palmguard and the Clearguard keyboard cover.

Thanks for the heads up. Either going to get the moshi palmguard or the is is dei Hand-Plant. Everyone says they are near paper thin, so sounds like what I am looking for. Now need to find one online for cheap and fast shipping.

i would say that the palmguard is about a 32th of an inch thick. personally, i havent found any problems with the palmguard adversely affecting the closure of my LCD screen - AND i have the Tom Bihn keyboard cloth on top of my keyboard too!
