The question is whether it will be HSDPA or not. "Regular" 3G and I am not interested in upgrading.

WWDC will be the place IMHO to have it announce. It will be at the same time frame for the iPhone's first anniversary and enough time for developers to deliver the new apps using SDK.

I hope:
8gig 3g $299
16gig 3g $399
32gig 3g $499

Boy do i feel glad i turned away at the last minuite at an o2 store yesterday lol .... got an ipod touch instead lol , so much better , 60 days huh ...160days for the UK Then :p lol , good news none the less !:p:apple:

unless they do the same thing again, they ll announce it it in june and make us wait half a year to get it...

Check out the whole video

IT is really insightful on a lot of subjects. This guy is ahead of his time!

I expect the 3G iPhone to be announced and possibly demoed at WWDC in June, but I am not sure it will actually be in the US stores (online and retail) when announced. We may need to wait until later in the year to get it.

Question - Many folks point to the fact that nobody can find an FCC filing for a 3G iPhone as proof it is not yet ready. If Apple releases it first in a foreign country, do they need FCC approval? It may already be undergoing (or have already received) certification in a foreign country where it will be offered for sale in conjunction with the WWDC announcement with US availability "pending FCC approval".

Haha. I love how confident he is when he says it. He just kind of states it, he doesnt go into it, or go, and you know what's coming in 60 days, 3G iphone. Makes it seem like he knows...hmmm

That's a good point. HSDPA or no deal. Then again, it would take more that 3G for me to buy. As long as Apple doesnt just put 3G in there then its probably good. If all apple does is put 3G and doesn't put a better camera, better screen, or processor, or GPS or SOMETHING that isnt software related, then its no deal for me. Although screen and processor wouldnt make me buy it either without a camera and some other nice boosts in some department. Although i will probably buy this at some point. It would be great if Apple somehow convinced AT&T to allow people to buy this new iPhone without having to get a new 2 year contract. Or atleast just allow to pay for the phone and not breaking the contract early. Just some thoughts.

I could care less.....

Off topic, but it annoys me!

Why are we seeing one of the most prominent tech writers/commenters of the modern age misusing the english language in such a way!?

The following are not quotes, merely examples

"I COULD NOT care less" = I care so little about this particular thing that there is no way that i could care less.

"They/he/I/we COULDN'T care less" = They/he/I/we care so little about this particular thing that there is no way that they/he/I/we could care less.

"They/he/I/we COULD care less" = With reference to thing that is currently under discussion, They/he/I/we could care less...... In other words, They/he/I/we care a little..."

It is probably a small matter to most but it really gets me......

The point of the matter is, is that everyone misuses the English language. Is it ashame? Yes. Do I do it? All the time. I know the point your trying to make is that because he's such a prominent person, and yes, i agree, but the fact of the matter is, is that the English language changes so much and very few people knew the "correct" way of speaking it from the start, that if that bothers you...well...yeah.

I agree, although some could intepret this to mean that he is just speculating by giving a rough time period as opposed to saying, the first week of June.

But, the topic of conversation wasn't specifically about the iPhone so that sentence was just a supporting statement.

Regardless, I think his saying it so "matter-of-factly" means something.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 8gb: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Apple could be using the planned leak method to get advertising on the cheap.

I agree with that. I just find it almost comical how he kinda just sneaks that in. Oh yeah, so mobile data isnt that quick 3G iPHONE OUT IN 60 DAYS...--cough-- and i really think it needs to be quicker...I am not going to take his word to heart, and i dont think anyone should, but it is always nice to have a matter of fact statement, even if its wrong. However, i dont see "60" days as a rough time period. 60 days is pretty specific...

Just because "everyone" does something does not make it right.. The english language would not be the english language without "rules" to define it and i just feel that this in particular breaks those fundamentals.

Anyway back to iPhone-mania!

Well done...

The 'could care less' thing doesn't make sense , it's true.

By the way, if you're going to be a smartarse you ought to know that Jersey isn't in the UK - it's a British Crown dependency. ;)

"UK" is an easier way of people people recognising where in the world you're from than "British Crown dependency". It's more important to me than being anal about my exact geographic location ;)

A WWDC announcement makes the most sense. Jobs will introduce the new application store, feature a few programs, talk about the firmware 2.0 update, then introduce the 3G iPhone.

As far as availability goes, they'll be sure to get the new phone in customers hands within a month of the announcement - not many people are going to knowingly buy the "Edge" model when a new version has been announced.

when he was talking about 3g he still said it would be slow...especially compared to europe...why should I buy 3g then??? damn I was looking so forward to it, if it's just going to be 1 step faster than edge, than what is the point?

oh and I'm a geek too!!! I have 1 of my laptops connected to my tv 24/7

It's not Apple's fault, it's the cell providers and the government. The U.S. lags well behind most other Western countries in high tech infrastructure. If only we had not been spending that money on some other things.... hmm...

I would expect immediate availability for the reason you stated above. Apple is starting production this May as rumored here before, so an initial batch will be available and large scale production will start soon after.

He doesn't say anything about updated Minis or iMacs, does he?

No.

Mossberg's talk was primarily focused on delivering video content through the internet. Two classic moments for me - slightly unrelated to 3G coming in 60 days (I think June 9) - were:

1 - When he slammed his hand down in disgust at the advertising that viewers must endure.

2 - When he stated "we suck at broadband" and then made a plea to our next president to get us to compete with the broadband delivery speed of other countries like Japan and Korea.

I couldn't agree more with him on both accounts.
