I wish I could just publish all of the rumors and stuff already known in 3.0...this article is ridiculous.

Ken believes a new Faster iPhone is Imminent and will include tethering. It will even have the ability to let applications talk to each other peer to peer!

Let's see what kind of buzz that creates...

iPhone hangs..

I hope so..
A faster CPU should help the zippiness.. and open up the possibility of (limited)background tasks.

From my experience, the phone hangs for a second or two. Basically the OS throws up a screenshot of the previously saved state, so you "see something" while the CPU catches up.

That's a nice mockup with the exception of the Home button.

Yeah, was just going to say the same thing. Really sweet, but the Home button should not be discreet like that. Even if they choose to go with a discrete button, the side tolerances would be much much tighter, a la the power button on PowerBooks for example.

Pretty arrogant to assume just because a highly respected industry veteran, has heard the same things that we have, that he's getting his sources from us.

Pretty arrogant.

If only the highly respected industry veteran has something to say about Steve Jobs' surprise MacBook Nano reveal.

Oh wait a minute ... I'm sorry ... That was just me dreaming for One More Thing ... :p

Pre crash

What I found most amazing in the article was when Mossberg talked about the Pre's disasterous crash when launching an app, where afterwards he lost all his data and couldn't even connect to Sprint or WiFi. That might be a bit of a problem for Palm, especially since they're launching the Pre in a few days. A crash that bad is understandable on an early beta, but not a finished product.

Perhaps they're assuming that people will hold it in their hand while typing? crazy thing to do with a handheld, perhaps, but there you go.

True - but I don't always use my laptop on my lap. ;)

I know most typing will be done while holding it, but the iphone also types really well on a desk.

Engadget points to comments by technology reporter Walt Mossberg as evidence that the new iPhone is indeed imminent. Mossberg posted a new review for the Palm Pre in which he acknowledges that Apple is poised to release a new iPhone at WWDC. In fact, he's very specific about what he expects next week:While these comments from anyone else would be dismissed as idle speculation, Mossberg is a long established technology reporter who either seems to believe all the circulating iPhone rumors or knows it for certain. Regardless, we'll all find out next week at WWDC.

check it out everyone....BREAKING NEWS!

ou ma gahd - i'd kill for that one

That phone looks fantastic! If that's an artist rendition than that's a great artist!

It's not hard to believe that the iPhone will have a speed increase. The questions is how much and what difference will it make.

With all the new features that are coming in 3.0, a speed increase is very likely.

I hope Walt's right. I know it's been discussed ad naseum here and elsewhere, but this is just what I would like and I'm thinking it's pretty much what they have to deliver at this point.

What I can't wait to find out next week is WHEN the version iPhone will be released. Any chance they actually release anything at the same time as next week's Keynote? iPhone 3, 3.0 software, or Snow Leopard? I'm thinking no, but who knows?

I guessing the new iPhone comes out sometime between late June and mid-July. The 3.0 software is released about a week or so before the 3rd gen iPhone. And Snow Leopard is released in the Fall. They announce the timeline for all 3 during next week's Keynote.

You know I was thinking about background tasks and wouldn't it make the most sense to allow the app your currently using to run in the background like if your writing an email and you need something from safari. Kind of like for those moments when you need to put something on hold to address something more immediate. That seems far more useful than leaving apps running all day long.
