Ah, well only a few days to go now.

Oh, and can people stop quoting that huge photo? It's nice, but I don't want to see it 6 times on each page.

I predict the sun will rise in the morning.
And, I can predict it will set in the evening.
Apple will release a faster iMac in the future.
They will also upgrade to a faster iPod soon...

I so beat Mossberg.

Looks like Walt reads MacRumors.

This is exactly what I thought while reading this...

you are right. but on the other hand. when it is in your pocket - it is usually locked anyhow. the only time you have an "active" home button is when you are working with it? no?

a general reflection about design - the only way for apple to "improve" the design for the iphone is to make it slimmer - basically. so - eventually it will go this way. it's not that they will ever add buttons...so...reducing "overweight" is the way to go or reduce screen size.

this looks like an artist rendering - but very creditable! looks really like something that could be produced in cupertino. keeping my thumbs crossed - almost breaking them :D

Great picture, that looks really nice, but the with the Home button overhanging the bezel, it would probably be a lot easier to press accidentally.

more about pre than iphone ...

you guys should watch all the videos from the review article for the Pre. They do have a lot of great new features which I would not be at all surprised to see in the the new iPhone. Also what most people are forgetting is that Pre runs applications entirely written in html, css, and javascript and all of those are slow interpreted languages. So the Pre basically needs to have a faster CPU in order to compete with both Apple and RIM devices. Sure it's faster to write the applications but I've worked with a lot of developers and learning a new API is never a problem provided that the design in good and that there are no missing components. Actually most developers are quite excited about learning something new and "cool". Only the Pre SDK is neither as it is still MIA. And before you start arguing even Palm says that they are not happy with the current state and that there will be changes in the near future. And I can't help but feel like the Pre is just another linux device set to take on the world. Yes it has great ideas but it's rough arround the edges and even Mossberg says that it does crash horribly and the the backup features is pretty much required. I personally throw away cell phones that crash and loose my data ( even if there is a way to get it back ).

Must be desperate if this is considered a newsworthy article. I predict the government will own GM.

That mock-up looks very, very thin. Almost thinner than the iPod Touch 1G. I think it looks sweet, but holding a flat rectangle in your hand as a phone seems uncomfortable, I like at least some bulk on a device. Imagine using a slimmed down but just as thick Kindle as your iPhone, probably the same thickness as the mock-up. Ew.

But as far as aesthetics go, A+. Ergonomics: D-.

pay attention people. the mock up you see in this thread doesn't depict a larger screen as you all say.......it's just that the borders of the phone have been trimmed down.

so no need to say "i wouldn't want the screen that big". it's not, it just looks bigger since the borders were minimalized down to almost nothing.

The funny thing is that Engadget initially reported this drivel and within an hour every Mac website published the same garbage. This is not Mossberg's fault.

I thought there was an interesting piece that no one has seemed to notice. Over at 9to5mac (I haven't watched the video) They mention he says that the phone is likely to come out within a MONTH, so that suggests around the beginning of July.

If its out anytime before july 10th, i'll be a happy camper

I would have believed that's the real one.. if not for home button which looks like it will be pressed a lot more un-intentionally... and most importantly, the screen takes up almost all the real estate, and it will be difficult to hold the phone to play games without getting our holding fingers on to the screen :(

But an awesome concept.... just needs some usability refinements.

comments by technology reporter Walt Mossberg

In fact, he's very specific about what he expects next week:While these comments from anyone else would be dismissed as idle speculation, Mossberg is a long established technology reporter who either seems to believe all the circulating iPhone rumors or knows it for certain.

Actually he parsed a far wider range of rumors and settled on these few and was even vague whether higher speed would be by processor speed increase or core count increase, or both.

I suggest his other articles and TV appearances be monitored for additional "color", since he is about as connected as someone not inside Apple itself can be.

I agree with you. It's going to be hard to find the right balance of size. For me it feels pretty good. For women, it's a little big. I think the mockup cut a little too much around the screen.

This is also faulty.
...
Due to Mossberg's stature, there is a certain level of credibility and veracity to his claims compared to others who would make similar statements.

This is also faulty. Appeal to authority is a fallacy. He gives no evidence or support to his claims. He doesn't even claim to have sources. It's just shooting from the hip, or rather a reading from the forums.

So his source is not MR. It's something else that MR also cites. Great.

The fact that Walt has said one is coming soon almost certainly means there isn't one.

Sounds crazy, no? Here's my reasoning:

1. Walt is one of the three journalists that Apple occasionally trusts with products before they're released (the others being Pogue and Ed Baig). He usually gets a week or two prior to public availability.
2. Walt never, ever, ever breaks NDA.
3. Therefore, Walt hasn't seen anything.
4. If Walt hasn't seen a new iPhone, there probably isn't one being made available next week.

And when you look here

you can see the new phone at the lower left corner of the banner.

Man that's exciting like a crime or a psycho thriller ;-)

I believed that Apple would a show a 32 MB (no other differences) iPhone next week at best and announce a hardware rev for end of 2009 or beginning 2010. But those mockups are looking amazing real...

Mossberg doesn't speculate

...and he gets favored treatment from Apple, and most tech vendors. If he sees something coming, it's because he literally has seen it. He doesn't promote rumors.

Mosstradamas

How does he do it ... predict such totally unpredictable possibilities ... amazing.:D
