If you're dumb enough to lose a 600 dollar phone maybe you don't deserve to have one. Get owned son. Lesson to be learned, take care of your sht.

No it shows we are human and make mistakes.

Each person can only challenge their own morals and make that judgement call.

Cause you know, you never have bad days. You never have ever flaked once in your life. Or gotten distracted. Or forgotten anything.

Because you're perfect and you could never make a mistake. Anyone who makes a mistake must just be stupid and not just be having an off day or even an off moment.

We must all bow down to how smart you are because you never make mistakes.

BTW, don't mistake randomly forgetting something as some one being stupid. Even the smartest people get brain farts sometimes.

Secondly, showing you are human and making one mistake does not mean you are not deserving of a phone. It means you are human.

And people like you are one of the things that is wrong with this world. You want to believe you are a good person so you make some stupid justification on why it is ok to keep a phone you found. Just admit you are a crappy person and don't care about stealing other people's stuff long as you know you won't get found out (This is what it comes down to. It's very very unlikely you'll ever get caught if you just steal what other people leave behind. I wonder how many of you who advise to keep the phone would still be advising that if they had random stings and fined/arrested people who kept the things they found).

So 5 years ago we found this dog out in the middle of the rain. We took it him in and fed him and kept him warm. We put up signs and took him to the SPCA to see if he was chipped. No dice. After 10 days we adopted him ourselves. This threads logic is that I now possess a stolen dog.

No, as some one else said, you actually made a real effort to return the dog. Person's mom just waited to see if some one would call. Didn't try to turn it into the Verizon store (a very easy answer) or even a lost and found of where she worked (apparently she worked at that beach) or do anything other than wait and see if some one called it.

Just like I'd advise the guy who was saying that they tried to return the phone twice and the guy did a no show on them (they managed to get in contact with him but anytime they agreed to meet he didn't show up). At that point I'd say yeah, phone is yours. If he's a dick enough to keep no showing and wasting your time when you are trying to return his phone, then stop wasting your time. He obviously doesn't care about your time or the phone.

OP, it's not that hard for your mom to turn the phone into the police. Also, the phone call to verizon wouldn't take that long.
As far as the person who lost their phone, it's obvious that they're absent minded from all the weed they do. That doesn't mean one should be penalized by a jerk who can't even take 30 minutes out of their day to turn the phone in to the police.
Let's face it, if any of us forgot our phone in a moment of absent mindedness, we'd want someone to call the provider or turn it in to the police.

Why don't you have her send it to you, so you can wipe it out and send it back to her and she can use it as a little mini tablet or something? Music, internet, etc.

Might as well get some use out of it.

What the hell is wrong with you, I never said I was perfect. Sure as hell got some weirdos on this forum holy sht. I've lost things and never gotten one thing back, but hey I didn't cry about it. I just went out and bought what I lost. No big deal and I learned a lesson: Watch where you leave your stuff, especially if it's expensive stuff. It's not like the op mother held a gun to the persons head and jacked her phone, she FOUND it.

Maybe if I grew up in a privileged world where everything we lost got returned I'd have a different opinion; but hey sorry to say this, I live in the real world.

People just need to be careful where they leave their stuff, including me. Or get owned son.

Sounds like a bunch of high horse people here, which 75% of probably wouldn't actually do what they say.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.

I once lost my wallet while at the movies. I realized right after we left the theater (it had fallen out in the seat of the theater). The custodial team was already there and cleaning right around where we were sitting. They swore they didn't find a wallet. Not saying they did, but I know somebody did. There was $50 in the wallet. Mostly I cared about my credit cards (which I canceled immediately) and my driver's license. Sad thing is I keep a card with my name, address, and two phone numbers for people to call if ever found. Would be nice if we could count on people, but one can only hope. I feel with an item like a wallet, or phone, it would be pretty easy to do the right thing if you chose to, though.

No, what is wrong with you? Just cause you live in the "real" world doesn't make it right. I realize that when you lose things sometimes you don't get them back and life sux sometimes. But that doesn't give me the right to steal some one's phone if I find it. What it means is I don't contribute to helping the world be a ****** place and I don't be one of those crappy people and I return the phone. I'll instead make it a better world and return the phone so that some one can feel relieved and maybe realize they were lucky and be more careful next time.

Or is it ok for me to kill some one cause that happens and other people do it? Because that's your argument in a nutshell. Other people do it, why would I not?

And that mother did nothing to help try to return the phone. Waiting for some one to call it isn't doing something. Maybe the mother just was clueless and didn't think of other things she could have done (but really wouldn't turning it in to the lost and found of the beach she worked at since she found it there at least occur to her) and maybe she didn't mean to steal the phone but she didn't try to return it. Don't fool yourself.

I've found a phone and returned it to its owner and I've lost a phone and had it returned to me. They guy who found mine actually bought a charger for it so he could access the contact details. He then rang my mum and got his details passed on to me. He got two crisp 50 pound notes for his trouble.

That's how I like the world to be.

Not at all. You tried everything u could to return that dog.

which is ALMOST what the OP did. only thing left to do is what he shouldve done in the first place-- take the phone from his mom, and do what he knows is right and atleast attempt to find the owner. if your mom is to busy, do it yourself. give your mother a hand.

----------

and another thing-- if they do weed, then they probably could buy an iphone with their weed money if they wanted to, because they would need lots of money to buy weed, judging by how expensive i think weed is (i dont do it, im only 13, and this is a guess). but obviously weed is more important to them than finding their phone. but i still think the op is half-a$$ing his attempts to get it back to the pothead. drop your dang excuses and do some real recovery work to get it back to the guy, pothead or not

thats my 2 cents

Can't see what doing weed has got to do with this....

My mothers half ass attempts, I didn't find it and I don't have it in possession :p

Did you ever consider that this phone is the person's only phone? I don't have access to any phone other than my iphone. So if I lose my phone, how would I manage to call my phone? Also, whenever I'm on a train, there's always someone asking to use another's phone. Most people refuse as they're worried about their phone getting stolen. So I have to ask the OP how the person is supposed to get their phone back?
My mom lost her iphone recently and my brother texted the phone asking for it back. You can damn well bet the jerk, who's keeping the phone, didn't reply.

There's no need to mention that you're 13, because it's obvious you're naive about the price of certain things. From what my friends tell me (I don't use, because of work's drug tests), weed is relatively cheap in comparison to other drugs.
So please don't speak about things you know nothing about. Of course this is mac rumors, but you shouldn't start bad habits this early in life.

Just unlock the phone. The 4S is a universal model as the antenna in the phone supports both GSM and CDMA. That's why the Verizon model also includes a removable SIM card.

It's not that simple. GSM 4S' come with the CDMA radios disabled; it does not appear to be possible to enable the radio. Even if it were, neither verizon or sprint activate phones that weren't sold by them.

Using a Verizon iPhone on AT&T isn't very feasible either. If you request an unlock from Verizon, it's only internationally unlocked. US sims don't work (MCC 310 is locked). Up until a few days ago the OP could've done the SAM trick, but that option is gone now. There's Gevey, but that's hardly ideal.

I never said it was simple, though I did not know about the GSM radio being locked on CDMA registered devices.

+ 1. I always laugh when I see the posts like these and the OP's get hammered for not making a Sherlock Holmes attempt to return the phone.

99% of the stores you return it to will either:
A. Throw it in a lost and found bin until the end of time
B. An employee will take it home.

They have better things to do than assist with careless people who cannot hold onto their belongings.

I'm sure the owner could be found through Apple.
