Good lord it looks like a huge tire! I think the placement of the band also makes the watch face look huge (and the band looks cheap).

I don't think it is that big, and my handsis are bit on a small side. The band it comes with looks worse when you see it on your hands.

Every time I see a Moto 360 an image of Flava Flav wearing one on a chain pops into my mind.

Actually, the Moto 360 is smaller that the Apple Watch. I have one and I love it.

Being a watch fanantic, there is a huge community that has created hundreds of workable watch faces, I have Breitling's, Tag Heuer's, Rolex's, Bell and Ross's, etc. It's a pretty neat feature, as well as there are some cool watch faces in the Google Play App store. Also, though I'm an iPhone guy, I use the Moto 360 with my Nexus 7 tablet. It's my first smart watch, but probably not my last, probably will get an Apple Watch eventually when/if they lower the prices. The Moto 360 is pretty awesome, no complaints so far, wear it quite often. I prefer a round smart watch, just looks better in my opinion.

----------

One thing I've noticed among friends of mine (ages late twenties to mid 30s) is that bigger watches (even the thickness) are actually "in". Only difference is that most of them are round. But other than that, this is looking to fall into that general category of how thick the watch is. In fact, a bunch of guys are sporting 45mm+ sizes!

yeah, I have a rather small wrist for a man, around 7 inches, but my sweet spot for watches is 44mm-47mm. Anything bigger is just way to big, and anything under 40mm looks too small to me. The Moto 360 is a perfect fit on my wrist, no issues at all. I think it's 46mm.

I saw an Almost 360 at Best Buy today. It did not feel premium at all. Maybe it's just me but I like my watches to have some weight to them. every watch I've ever worn had some heft to it. Even ones that weren't very expensive. The Almost 360 felt way too light for my liking. Honestly some of the plastic fitness bands felt heavier than the 360. If that watch face was square instead of round none of the tech blogs would've drooled over it the way they have.

I wonder if the lightness is also due to the strap in use? There isn't a lot of extra space in the 360 that exists in the Apple Watch (look at those bezels) so where would the weight come from?

I'm guessing materials used (Watch sport is apparently quite a bit lighter than the other two models).

I guess the question is if the Sport Watch is Moto 360 light. Without straps.

From the iFixit teardown it doesn't look like there was a lot of space to use metal as filler, I guess Motorola could have chosen a heavier metal, but the outer casing appears to be pretty thin.

Actually, the lightness has to do with the back of the watch, I believe it's made out of plastic. There are several complaints about the back of the watch cracking. Add in the thin light strap, and yeah, you get a watch that feels super light on the wrist. Obviously the steel band will add more weight.

Yeah I am wondering how small of a Qi coil one can have. The back plastic cover is covering yet more plastic, but the charging coil takes up like the whole back part of the device. Makes you wonder if Apple Watch inductive charger requires the magnet to make sure you are over the coils properly (I find that Qi charging is more forgiving, but then again none of the devices that I have that use it have metal backs).

When you put the Apple Watch custom animated watch faces next to a well dressed human being... the Moto 360 doesn't look near as good as the Apple Watch.

Guys, the Apple Watch is an ACCESSORY not a standalone product.

The models look fantastic wearing the watches appropriately.

Even then, this looks better than the Moto 360 in my opinion.

I really like the rose tone version of the Apple watch. Unfortunately, that's the most costly version. I'm going to wait until the prices come down (maybe when AW II comes out).

As far as those pictures in your post, the Moto 360 definitely looks much nicer (IMHO). Especially with the metal bracelet. It truly is a nice looking watch, BUT, I think it looks better in the pic than in real life. Not by much, looks nice in real life too, but not as nice as in Motorola's pics.

It's not just "rose tone", it's rose gold, as in 18K gold. Gold watches are wildly expensive, far out of proportion to the value of the gold they contain.

Unless you want a beat-up second-hand watch, I don't think you'll see rose gold Apple watches significantly cheaper if you wait.

Will be interesting to see if in time Apple sells a gold plated watch.

Gold plated watches are not really to be looked down upon, sure it's not SOLID but you can do very high quality plating, which brings items down to a price point more can afford.

If (and I don't think it is going to be) we had Stainless Steel Watch $750 and gold Watch $5000, then you have just shut out the VAST MAJORITY of the population that would of liked the gold one.

If it was $750 and then $1500 well that would be more attainable.

It is was the crazy $5000 price point many seem to think it will be (but I don't) then we could see a Plated version in the future I'd think to stop there being many tens of thousands of customers who are disappointed they can't justify that artifically high price point

Why are you so fixated on gold plated? And when did Apple say the Edition watch was going to be $5000?

I doubt very much it's rose gold. Watch companies use 316L steel, covered in rose gold plating made from real rose gold, but trust me, THAT watch is not made from solid 18 karat rose gold, you can't find a watch under $15,000 U$ made from solid rose gold. Apple won't be selling a $15,000 dollar watch.

Hell, my most expensive watch, a Hamilton X-Wind, which cost $1,300, and they used rose gold plating, 10 microns, which is some of the best gold plating available. Hamilton is a very prestigious, respected brand with most watches over $600.

Why are you so fixated on gold plated? And when did Apple say the Edition watch was going to be $5000?

Who said I was fixated.

I do wonder if you actually read what I write.

Let me repeat in a more simple fashion for you:

1: SOME/MANY people have speculated a Gold Watch price up to $5000

2: I don't think it will be, but let's say it was.

3: a lot, and I mean a LOT of people would then feel totally priced out from getting an Apple watch that looked how they wanted it to.

4: If that WERE the case, then there would be a good case for later offering a gold plated version to allow more people to own a gold watch without having to pay for a solid gold one which was outside their budget.

I have constantly said I felt around $1500 for the Gold watch (dependent on the strap)

This price point I am guessing at revolves around 2 key points.

1: What is the wall thickness of the case.
2: How much more "Fashion Tax" will be added on top of the cost of the cost of the gold itself.

If the wall thickness is 1mm and there is no "Fashion Tax" then I think my $1500 (strap dependent) is not a million miles off.

Quite a number of others on this forum (and elsewhere) have speculated there will be a LARGE "Fashion Tax" to artificially raise the price way way up to position the Gold watch as a very luxury product that many won't be able to afford.

I don't think that, as that is very Un-Apple like, as Apple sell things to the mass market.

Hope that clears my thoughts up.

If the wall thickness of the Apple Gold Watch is 1mm
Then, the actual value of the gold is around $1200

(give or take a bit)

Says '18-KARAT ROSE GOLD CASE' on Apple's website.

You may want to inform Apple that their website and press release are fraudulent.:D

Apple said:
...Each has a watch case crafted from 18-karat gold....

Apple said:
The beautifully designed and durable enclosures are crafted from ...18-karat rose or yellow gold....

I think Apple Watch Edition is going to cost quite a bit more than your Hamilton X-Wind.

Read this for some fairly deep thinking about prices of the Apple Watch Edition:
http://daringfireball.net/2014/09/apple_watch

But the relevant part for your misconception is this:
"There should be no confusion on that last part. The Apple Watch Edition is solid 18-karat gold, not gold-plated. I confirmed this with Apple last week."

He sums up his pricing forecast this way:
"I think Apple Watch prices are going to be shockingly high — gasp-inducingly, get-me-to-the-fainting-couch high — from the perspective of the tech industry. But at the same time, there is room for them to be disruptively low from the perspective of the traditional watch and jewelry world. There’s a massive pricing umbrella in the luxury watch world, and Apple is aiming to take advantage of it."

Wow, GREAT catch ! This is just crazy. People will be paying a month's rent (or several months rent) for an Apple Watch. I know I won't be, lol.

Another GREAT catch, I stand corrected, truly did not know this. I would be shocked if those watches will be sold for under $1,500.

I'll be shocked if it sells for under $3,000. $5,000 is the odds on price prediction by most informed pundits. Some say even higher.

I agree. One of my co-workers has one and and it isn't attractive at all.

That's not a very nice thing to say about a co-worker!

Calling them a "it" and that they are not very attractive!

I'm sure they are very nice once you get to know them...

:D

I have just seen a moto 360 in person for the first time yesterday.

And boy- does it look cheap. It looks really rough - like i could have made one at my own workshop (I really think I could make one with a lathe )

If you really think you can, then you should start making them.

If you can make them at home, you'd make a fortune :)

Let us know what spec they are and what OS they are going to be compatible with. Probably some people here wold be interested.

I was talking about the chassis or the body of the watch not the software ;). Also I doubt that I would make a fortune - it doesnt even make motorola a fortune and they are much more cost effective ;)

I really hope they come come out with a round watch. Love my Moto 360, though its a little thick, and want an apple watch to go with my iPhone. Here are some concepts I found in an article on the verge, the ui really seems to fit a round display.

Also, to the person who posted earlier that it would be a lot bigger round, here is a better representation.
