Why are you so fixated on gold plated? And when did Apple say the Edition watch was going to be $5000?
Who said I was fixated.
I do wonder if you actually read what I write.
Let me repeat in a more simple fashion for you:
1: SOME/MANY people have speculated a Gold Watch price up to $5000
2: I don't think it will be, but let's say it was.
3: a lot, and I mean a LOT of people would then feel totally priced out from getting an Apple watch that looked how they wanted it to.
4: If that WERE the case, then there would be a good case for later offering a gold plated version to allow more people to own a gold watch without having to pay for a solid gold one which was outside their budget.
I have constantly said I felt around $1500 for the Gold watch (dependent on the strap)
This price point I am guessing at revolves around 2 key points.
1: What is the wall thickness of the case.
2: How much more "Fashion Tax" will be added on top of the cost of the cost of the gold itself.
If the wall thickness is 1mm and there is no "Fashion Tax" then I think my $1500 (strap dependent) is not a million miles off.
Quite a number of others on this forum (and elsewhere) have speculated there will be a LARGE "Fashion Tax" to artificially raise the price way way up to position the Gold watch as a very luxury product that many won't be able to afford.
I don't think that, as that is very Un-Apple like, as Apple sell things to the mass market.
Hope that clears my thoughts up.

I doubt very much it's rose gold. Watch companies use 316L steel, covered in rose gold plating made from real rose gold, but trust me, THAT watch is not made from solid 18 karat rose gold, you can't find a watch under $15,000 U$ made from solid rose gold. Apple won't be selling a $15,000 dollar watch.
Hell, my most expensive watch, a Hamilton X-Wind, which cost $1,300, and they used rose gold plating, 10 microns, which is some of the best gold plating available. Hamilton is a very prestigious, respected brand with most watches over $600.
If the wall thickness of the Apple Gold Watch is 1mm
Then, the actual value of the gold is around $1200
(give or take a bit)
