I'm not 100% sure, but I read something about Google caring more about the user experience than specs moving forward. Thus the mid-range-like specs. Also, this was never supposed to be a high end phone. I think early rumors always pointed to more mid-range specs. And, of course, Google's desire to release affordable contract-free phones can only allow these specs.

I just hope higher storage options are available, and available right from the get go.

Agreed regarding the specs. If the device offers a speedy, lag free user experience with good to great battery life, I couldn't care less what's under the hood driving it.

I was admittedly in the 'meh' camp after seeing initial reports about the specs but, with all the talk about a supposedly smooth user experience being the primary focus, I'm cautiously optimistic. Very curious to see first hand on impressions when it's finally available.

I hope at least they include 32GB or microSD. Also that it comes with 4.3.

Still don't know how good Motorola is or will be with updates.

The Nexus 5 will probably be below 400$ and have better specs.

Looks like it'll still be a pretty good phone despite having last years specs (somewhat).

Yeah the GPU looks good and the 10mp camera decent. If its running a near stock OS it could be pretty decent performance wise irrespective of being dual core.

Its getting similar benchmarks as quad core from last year and same AnTuTu as Xperia Z - so yeah pretty decent :)

if it really will be priced at $199 and will offer all those features, i'm definitely gonna buy this.

seems interesting, but the internals are very old, i guess the software experience will be it's selling point.

16GB of storage is a real bummer, but I'm sure many will look to the cloud as a solution, but limited data plans ruin it for me. If the price is right, then awesome, Google will be tapping into the untapped midrange market.

With all the leaks of the supposed official specs, I have to think back to when Dennis Woodside spoke at D11 and said:

"I'll save the details for later, but [the industry issue of] battery life is a huge problem. Motorola has some of the world's best engineers and systems designers who spend their lives on that problem. There are two processors in the device that creates a system that allows you to do such a thing."

What really interests me is how he mentioned two processors, yet there's been no leaks about it.

Lol. Sold in the play store I could believe. The other things were very old rumors when google first acquired Motorola. Oh and it could get updates similar to the google edition phones, but we still don't know what that is until next week when 4.3 drops.

Won't be sold in the play store as it is a carrier device.

It won't get updates like a Nexus. Likely won't even get updates like a GPE. However, I expect it to get updates better than any other carrier device.

And as other people have said, 4.2.2 is confirmed. It gets no early access to 4.3. It runs a slightly altered version of Android, which will be the cause for slightly delayed updates.

All of that sounds good to me. Looks like it will be comparable to the nexus 4 but with all of the short comings removed.

And a few added for some people. Half the amount of cores and isn't stock Android, meaning you won't get instant updates. Plus it is a carrier device and will likely be priced accordingly. Don't expect this to be as cheap as the Nexus 4.

I don't see how being a carrier phone means it won't be In the play store. The n4 is sold through t mobile.

At a higher price. And that is the only carrier. The Moto X is expected to be on all major US carriers. So again, don't expect it to be on the play store or to be as cheap as the Nexus 4. It won't happen.

Never said I did. I expect around $400-$450 contract free and available in the play store for that price.

Just saw the specs for the AT&T variant over on Android Central--short of having a different camera and LTE, it's basically a Nexus 4 without the benefits of the Nexus 4 (translation--waiting for software updates as with any other carrier branded device), and likely costing more off contract. Only 16 GB of storage? Consider me much less interested now.

Not a terrible device but no reason, IMO, to consider this over current (or recent) flagship devices.
