LOL, you have clearly not worked in a marketing department. Let me let you in on little secret, half the time 10 people are proofing they assume the last person looking at it already caught all the mistakes.

Ad's can sometimes move to fast near the end of the production cycle for all the mistakes to be caught. It happens more often than you think.

One more reason to hate marketers. So, they're all liars, and they're incompetent at it. Beautiful.

Facetime lets you know when you call someone if they are capable of a videocall and you can make the switch with the push of a button. You will discover lots of people outside of your family that are able to use it...I suspect you will support in lots of devices before the end of the year.

Way to entirely miss my point. It doesn't matter how easy it is to initiate a Facetime call with somebody, or even how many devices will support it; the question is, Do you actually want to. I know I wouldn't want to be videochatting with random people I call simply because I can. Therefore, I see it being used primarily between family members.

And the phone could drop feces into their mouths every time they make a phone call and the fanboys would say they're the best tasting feces ever. funny how that works, eh?

I hate to be the one that says it, but the Android fanboys are worse than Apples. Really, it has gotten bad. Why? Because Android users constantly feel the need to go out of their way to point out how their devices are "better" than Apples. Constantly. Countless times on here, Reddit, Digg, and Engadget a Android user will out of nowhere say "I like X feature of my phone. Apple customers are just garggling Steve Job's balls." Etc. Android users CONSTANTLY need to start pissing contests saying why their device is better.

Heck, I was once having a conversation about Linux and said I had an iPhone and the person called me a blind follower attracted by shiny things who hates freedom. What the heck? iPhone users may talk up their devices, but it is generally on a yearly basis around the time a new device is announced. Android fanboys talk up their devices, but since a new Android phone is announced/released every darn day, Android users are constantly talking **** to Apple fans, on a DAILY BASIS. Sorry, but Android fanboys have taking the cake for most annoying group on the internet.as (And I am in no way anti-Android, my MBP has a green Android logo on it).

I bet jobs was uber mad when he saw the ad and not expect it and twice as mad we he realized it was typeo

Meanwhile.... The intelligent folk go saying things like this:

They should call this the Motorola Brick. It looks like one. Almost the same colour too.

Honestly, I'd rather see someone debating the benefits of features and specs on both platrofms rather than generic "lulz, look at teh droid it is teh suck" kind of messages (I'm not saying that Android fans don't spew the same crap either). Both platforms work well but both have flaws as well and there are areshole fans of both platforms willing to stir up the hive.

Some of the best Android discussions I've taken part in have been on these boards which turned out to be informative and fun to take part in. Sometimes they really go downhill (see the huge Evo thread in the iPhone forum, what a POS that has turned out to be) but the Nexus One Switchers thread was a goldmine of legitimate criticism's as well as some good pro's to the handset.

The other thing that reeks of hypocrisy is the old "no one cares about specs" rhetoric here, until Apple has the upper hand then it's all "OMG A41GHz", "512MB of RAM, WIN!" or "Retna display is the best ever".... Just like that, specs start to matter.

On the flipside, anyone who screams "you only get what the turtlenecked overlord wants" need some new material as well.

Maybe you need more friends then :) I did not miss the point, you failed to state that you had no friends. It makes sense now. You however may not be typical.

I think what you mean to say is "Maybe you need more friends with iPhones then." Yes, it will be opened up to other platforms eventually, but for now you need two iPhones to have a video chat. Unfortunately, I only have one friend with an iPhone, because the rest of my friends are on Verizon. Hell, I'm on Verizon as well. And somehow, I don't think I'm the only one in this sort of situation. IPhones are expensive, really, and most of my friends have better things to spend money on than a phone, simple as that.

This is the Anti-Apple arsenal:
  • Overpriced
  • Owners are only attracted to shiny things
  • Owners hate freedom
  • Will blindly buy anything that says Apple on it
  • Owners buy overpriced crap computers
  • Macs are toys
  • The iPad is just a giant iPhone
  • Every new iDevice will fail
  • When a iDevice succeeds, they say "of course, because Apple customers are blind and buy anything Jobs announces"
  • It cant multitask
  • Did I mention freedom?

Sorry, but Android users have been spitting out the same rhetoric for a long time now. Apple customers (as you pointed out) may point out that they don't like the looks of a Android device but that is simply an opinion, the things that most Android users say are entirely BS.

Lets take the Retina display as an example. Fandroids said it didn't matter and that it wasn't a big deal. But then when that announcement came yesterday that incorrectly stated that the Droid X had a 720p screen, Engadget was swarming with posts about how zomg awez0me the screen was. Suddenly the screen mattered to them. Then when it was announced that it wasn't 720p, the display quality once again no longer mattered.

Then we have the BS freedom argument. I have been told SOOO many times that because I buy Apple stuff I hate freedom. That is such an insane comment it doesn't even warrant a reply, yet I still get bugged by it. Fandroids are turning into the Linux stereotype by accident. Suddenly Fandroids are all about freedom and openness.

I admit 110% that Apple fanboys are also annoying. They are. But what happens is the Fandroid crowd suddenly feels like they are NOT annoying, they think they are above being annoying because they use open devices and are freedom lovers. Well guess what androidians, YOU'RE NOT. Fandroids have eclipsed the Apple fanboy annoyingness and have now officially become the most annoying group of people on the internet.

I'm guessing the average age of these guys is somewhere between 12 and 17. They've only just moved on from 'my dad drives a bigger truck than your dad'.

I'm sorry but this is just why Apple is eventually going to lose the war in the mobile market... android is moving too fast, across to many carriers, being supported by too many phone mfg, and releasing too many devices for one company to keep up.

However, Apple's advantage still lays within the appstore but that gap is closing as more and more apps get ported over to android... that is just a matter of time but it will happen.

I'm not a fanboy of anything... I'm a fanboy of technology. I use what is bleeding edge almost always and the new iPhone, for instance, is nowhere near any kind of innovative breakthrough intriguing enough for me to be interested. I love my iPad but I love my Nexus as a mobile phone. iPhoneOS is old, boring, and unable to be customized. I can't even get my home screen to show me my upcoming appointments? Come on. Apple loses by not picking up with widgets other enhancements that allow people to make their phone the way they want it. For someone who is a techy type and likes to customize the iPhone has lost its glamor.

You're right in a lot of what you say but factual inaccuracies that I've had thrown at me as an Android user here are appalling and will do nothing but invoke a response. It's people commenting on a platform they know nothing about, through either fear or Apple loyalty coming up with these gems:

  • Android handsets are cheap.
  • Only for geeks.
  • Android doesn't support multitouch.
  • All software on Android is crap.
  • No good games on Android.
  • Multitasking is poor.
  • It isn't really "open".
  • Android is slow.
  • You have to look at ads to answer a call.
  • It doesn't work with iTunes (yet when Palm tries to do it they are labelled scum and unanimously slated).
  • Apps are no good due to limited storage.

I haven't seen many other people online saying "Fandroids have eclipsed the Apple fanboy annoyingness and have now officially become the most annoying group of people on the internet." and would only ever agree with you if Android users were going to a Pony Club forum telling them why their Android handset is better than their pony. This is a tech forum which will attact people from all sides and clashes are likely to happen, especially with Mac owning Android users who know their platform.

It's all very similar to the PS3 troll that pops into the XBOX360 forum saying "LULz, XBOX SUXX cos of RROD". Hopefully that doesn't mean the some meaningful conversation can't be had on either devices here.

The 720p screen announcement thing is a massive FAIL on Verizon, Motorola and all the people who touted it as awesome's part and I hope that all of them take any crap they slung at the iPhone back BUT, I've read people post constantly that"specs don't matter" when the competition has something over what Apple offers but plenty of people sung the praises of the A4 CPU, the Retna display and are loving the 512MB of RAM in the iPhone 4 (myself included, the specs of the iPhone 4 look great).

Ignore the fools that say "When a iDevice succeeds, they say "of course, because Apple customers are blind and buy anything Jobs announces"" and enjoy your gear.

My wife and I will be going on a long journey tomorrow so we will be using my Nexus One with Google Navigation to route us there and I will be using the wifi 3G access point on my N1 to share my 3G signal to my iPod touch/Netbook so I can browse the web whilst we're on the road. I've bought the hardware that does what I want and need it to and will use it happily regardless of what some prick on a forum thinks about it.

That is exactly why I'm into gadgets/tech. Love it!

I'm guessing the average age of these guys is somewhere between 12 and 17. They've only just moved on from 'my dad drives a bigger truck than your dad'.

And here lies the problem on both sides of the Android/iPhone camp. Immature name-calling and sweeping generalizations.

Well done kalsta.

I've had 1 dropped call since getting my iPhone in January -- not trying to argue there aren't problems, but I think it depends where you are located, no?

Depending on where you are located and the amount of users on that network. In the pirrsburgh area, I have had very few dropped calls and most of the times it was at a dead zone where vzw did the same...

I oddly enough had no recpetion in my house with VZW but do with ATT

i'm upgrading from a first gen iPhone. really, the iPhone 4 is good enough for me. not to mention i love me some apple.

I'm tired of the Android VS Apple Fustercluck as well. I get there are people who love their droid's but it really pisses me off that they go out of their way to berate me over liking the iPhone. People called android open but it really isn't because a provider can still place a lockdown on it.

The whole Tethering thing is an example, Apple has been raked over the coals for this and android has been praised for it? That's total B.S because google didn't provide an official tethering app. Someone had to go and develop one. And even with Froyo having tethering as a feature but that's still dependent on the carrier and no carrier in their right mind is going to leave that open.

Like i said before Android isn't really open it's just an alternative and even though i'm a geek at heart i don't care about having access to every little feature of the OS. And this board seem to think that it represents the alpha and omega of users.

This board is a tiny minority of users of devices. So while we may want openness or other stuff. The majority mainstream customer doesn't care about that S**T. They want something that's going to work. I know it's a hard pill to digest but not everyone is a power user geek.

You can tether with any Android phone thanks to pdanet. It's even available on the Android Market.

Froyo's tethering feature may be dependant on network specific firmware but there is nothing Orange UK can do to stop me from using it on my N1. This is one of the benefits of getting a non-carrier locked handset.

Well that was precisely my point. This pissing contest is 'immature' (yes, on both sides). Only I tried to make my point with a bit of humour. Lighten up Chaz.

You > Me!

Emotion is hard to convey over the internets isn't it. :D

EDIT:
My dads truck is bigger than your....... :p

I know that but people were saying that apple didn't provide an official method of tethering. While Android doesn't either. Even though there is a app on the market that's still not an official app built by Google. So in otherwords people were holding apple to a standard that google can't technically meet.

I'm going to back you up on that one JediZenMaster, especially when AT&T pull crap like this. I HATE branded handsets and will now refuse to buy any locked or branded handset. This is where Apple and the iPhone have a massive advantage by keeping the networks restrictive ways out of iOS's business.

No network software tampering = Apple win.

Unles Google produce another untampered, network free handset like the N1, it will most likely be my Last Android handset as I do not want the networks f****** with my smartphone.
