Bluetooth would probably be slow but cool not even having to connect to update the playlist. Just come home and be within range and in a quarter hour have a new playlist...

Man I really hope Apple re-brands this with some Apple Industrial Design. Or at least comes in an all white option... I guess it would go well with and Incredible Hulk lunch box.
I agree 100% and stand by my earlier post. They are working with Apple not Xbox! What if you have a Spiderman lunch box!

huh?

I was looking forward to the iTunes phone, but that is so completely ugly, I wouldn't even consider it. They should put iTunes into their new RAZR-esque phones

i'm a bit confused. the cnn report hints that motorola will be sticking witht the razr model, while the picture is very much non-razr. i'm not a cnn fan, but i think i'll trust that more than the picture. i say that picture is not the product we'll see on the shelves that are itunes compatible. and if it is, it'll be the budget model, not the flagship.

Tell me it aint so

What an ugly piece of crap! :( That's it? No wonder Jobs didn't announce it; they would have booed him louder than the Democrates response to Bush's Social Security plan.

Fourth quarter '05?

im up for my one year free upgrade here shortly, looks like good timing.

Maybe not. The Engadget article says due in the fourth quarter, which is a looooong way off in the IT world. I can't imagine that Steve Jobs would have mentioned this phone at MacWorld in January if it wasn't going to be on the market until October; I'm guessing demo at WWDC and availability in July/August.

My thoughts exactly. When the RAZR came out, I immediately thought that this would be the "iTunes" phone. It just looks more Apple-ish than the one at the top of this post.

I hope that's not really what it ends up looking like. Reminds me of the ugly blue HP iPod prototype.

Yes. It is horrible.. this, phone.

And you're a very.. bad, person, Peter.

Another useless feature to your cell phone.

:meanwhile at Major Cell Phone Company Headquarters:
'HEY BILL YOU COME UP WITH THAT NEW CELL PHONE GADGET THAT WILL MAKE EVERYONE WANT A CELL PHONE YET?'
'-- UHHH... UHHHH :looks at computer screen: Uhhh...OH! OH YEAH! I PROPOSE WE MAKE ALL OF OUR CELL PHONES FPS ENABLED!'
'Like... The Games?'
'--YEAH ITS GONNA BE GREAT, FRAGGING YOUR FRIENDS OVER THE PHONE!'
'I dunno... it sounds BRILLIANT!'

The fact is:
Your trying too hard.

I agree it is UGLY, but they are also trying to hit a price point, ($250 ish, I think) so no RAZR's at that $ point yet. Let's face it, if you are the type of customer who wants to drop big $ on a RAZR, odds are you've proably already ponyed up for an iPod.

Well it's sure as hell not going to replace my iPod -- I'd rather have a nice slimline phone since I'll typically have my iPod anyway.

I saw some gorgeous designer phones in Japan last month (from KDDI). I don't know why most phones look dreadful.

Still, interesting if there's a java client for iTunes...

theres a design prototype, and then they take that and see how much they can skim of it to reduce costs. Much like the car process. The ones in Japan are usually altered by the time they reach here, but yes it is insane how much most of the cell phones suck compared to how they used to be. The build quality has gone done on much of them. Even the razor sucks, good build quality but poor interface.

how long does it take to make a damn phone. didn't apple announce this a year or two ago?

How does this deal help Apple

I dont understand how this deal in anyway helps Apple.
Apple doesnt make jack off of their music store.
An undisclosed person at Apple told me that they dont make but about a penny a song profit. The revenue for apple is in the IPOD's not in the store.

Well, I won't be getting that phone. There are lots of places you cannot take a camera (even one on a phone). For some people that includes not being able to take it to work. So if they don't drive, they need to leave the phone at home. What good is a phone at home? And even if they drive, for some people, theu couldn't take it even into their workplaces parking lot.

God, I don't want to work where you work.

That is one hell of an ugly phone. Good God, what were they thinking?

I personally have a Sony Ericsson K700i which I like very much.

Other SE models worth looking at is the S700i which is very cool and the forthcoming K600i which looks very interesting.

If only Apple could partner with these guys.....

cingular rules

I would guess it would be a GSM phone, meaning Cingular. It always seems like the cools phones never come out for Verizon(CDMA).

THis is becuz cingular is better than verizon and the gsm network is eventually going to transform into APU (airport unlimited) to provide net access anywhere to anyone. so of course apple is goin to support cingular. MUHAHAHA

Anybody think of using an ipod wheel to dial like the old school phones had the finger in the ring dialer? That would be bad ass!

My thought exactly...

Hey, you stole my idea! :D

But yes, Apple should have indeed partnered with Sony Ericsson. Their phones are totally sexy. And very Apple-ish, for that matter. As a matter of fact, I bought my T630 because it would look good with my iMac and iPod. And it does. It also works really well with iSync. God, I absolutely LOVE SE's designs, but hate Motorola's, even that of the RAZR. I don't understand the hype around that particular phone; I think it looks mediocre at best. Give me a good-looking SE phone and I'm happy. Nokia's phones look lame as well, by the way. I hate the way their interfaces work, too. That must be why Microsoft teamed up with them; they make a good team in that aspect...

Stop worrying about apple's perspective! You are a consumer. Think what is best for you! (btw, expending iTMS might benefit apple)

No, you are not. If you read the thread you would have noticed that it has been said freakin' often already.

Motorolla is a long time partner of apple. It is logical that they preserve their business relations. What is the point of yelling that apple should hook up with your favourite cellphone producer? It would make sense to go with a company wich already has a large marketshare. But I am quite sure that no matter which company was taken, the marketshare for the itunes phone will be significant.

Ehm... I don't know just how far the USA is behind in the mobile phones-aspect, but that old network standard I don't remember the name of was replaced by GSM here in Europe, like, eight years ago. We're already at UMTS right now, that's 3G. GPRS is 2.5G, GSM is 2G. Vodafone is doing good business here with 3G; I'll give it two years max before UMTS has replaced GSM almost fully. And yes, UMTS gives you DSL-speeds through the air, at any given spot in the world. Well, at any given spot reachable by the UMTS-satellites. So that would probably exclude the USA, since you're so far behind...
